Randy Greenberg, whos an executive producer on the film, says the original plan at Disney was to make Meg as a family-oriented movie, while New Lines idea was to have de Bont make a more terrifying version.
I just want this to be in the same type of category as Deep Blue Sea, and it seems to be exactly that case. So thats a![]()
Not expecting great reviews either. I just want the shark to look really cool and be terrifying and the terror of tons of surfers and people getting eaten.

I think this film would have more hype had they gone the horror route. Not so much R-rated, but a little more serious in the vein of Jurassic Park or Jaws. I think making it more a less a "camp" version was the wrong direction IMO. This could've been one of the more anticipated movies of the summer had they gone the more terrifying version.
My sentiments exactly. Ever since I found out about Megalodon some four or five years ago I wondered how long it'd take for them to make a movie pertaining to it. And this looks to be everything I could've hoped for from such a movie so I'm all in.
Jason Statham gives a rousing speech to the rest of the cast and then suddenly, the meg eats him.

I would rather watch two hours of Cliff Curtis, who should be a bigger star, than Statham.
I dunno, based on the trailers isn't it clear they made more of a sort of camp and slightly goofy version of this?Thank god the Disney version never happened.
That shark just has no chill.

My favorite part of THE MEG is that the biggest shark that ever lived is extremely good at silently sneaking up people.
It's a MEGALODON, dammit.![]()
