Jason Todd thread

Now it seems that Red Robin will not be Jason Todd! oh well!

I'm quite interested to see what this is all about.

I'm interested to see what the deal with Jason Todd as Red Robin is as well but at the same time I think that bringing Jason back from the dead was a pretty weak idea.
And when Jason died Batman was all torn up about it. They don't even mention Stephanie anymore. It's like Batman didn't even care.

a good Jason Todd thread doesn't stay dead. I'm gonna post some pics, just for the hell of it.
and good links for anyone who's interested

... woah. Um, isn't it sort of a Batfamily rule that you DON'T USE GUNS!? I mean, Jason went for the shotgun before Batman
even SAID anything. And last time I checked, "hold them off" doesn't mean "go ahead and shoot them."

Gotham County Line, it's a good little story. More pages here, read

and yes Under The Hood

edit -

So.....I was thinking the other day, would anyone be interested in a retelling of A Death in the Family? I know the idea would piss alot of people off, re-treading over an iconic chapter, but I just think it's unfortunate that a story with so much potential to be great is actually quite tedious and almost comical to read. It seems so dated. A re-telling would have better art, more emotion, less cheese, cut out the Joker diplomat crap. etc. As it is it's hardly a great tpb, it's only noteworthy for the death of a Robin. This is unfortunate.

so i read batman annual 25 the other day, that tells how jason came back. and theres a pannel where batman is carrying jason ( from death in the family by the looks of it ) this is after it shows super boy hitting reality or woteva. anyway batmans carrying jason from the explotion and hes says " hes alive" was that added to the annual or is it in death in the family?

If it was Aparo art (in the style of a Death in the Family) then that was the alternate outcome of the vote. They had to prepare both options cos they didnt know which way it would go.

oh alright. i just dont get how if superboy changed it so that happend instead why would jason be buried?

i havent read any infinite crisis btw lol im new to the dc stuff

nah in continuity Jason WAS buried then he came back to life when Superboy did his thing. The alternate ending ("He's alive!") never happened. Jason died for 10+ years then reality decided he was in fact supposed to exist, as you can see from the scans

yes, the whole thing is stupid....

(unless i'm misunderstanding your post...)

his return = stupidest thing ever.
It's not like Aunt May or Alfred who are important characters, Jason Todd was a Dick Grayson-rip-off (and I liked this version more) and his second incarnation an annoying child. Nobody wanted him back. And there was no reason.

yeah i get that. that pannel of the alternate ending just threw me off cos i didnt know where it fitted in. but if it never happend thats fine lol ill just ignore t so it makes more sense lol

They could have brought him back to life much easier and more believable, for instance:

Pt. one, we get a flashback of the explosion and Batman carrying Jason towards the jeep.

Pt. two, we see Jason's funeral. After the funeral is done, we see two unmarked helicopters (Some secret US Goverment agency, sim. to the cartoon series). They excavate Jasons body, and fly off to a remote place which turns out to be a secret US goverment base with a "Lazarus pit". Jason is placed in the pit and revives. In the proces he might have lost an arm or a leg, but this can easily be replaced by robotics.

Pt. three, US goverment trains him simulair to what Talia did. And wan't Jason as a back up plan if they ever need someone to bring down the mighty Batman.

why would they do this? why do they know that Jason Todd is Robin?

This doesn't work simply for the fact that why would the government do this unless they knew Jason was Robin, and conversely, that Bruce is Batman. There are already too many people in the DCU that know Bruce's identity, adding the US Government would be complete overkill.

I assumed when it came out Jason was alive it was Ra's doing. He quickly recieved word of the death of Robin from one of his spies or something, maybe Lady Shiva reported Batman & Robin visiting her to him and he decided to investigate their presence in (whichever country it was, I haven't read it in a while.) Or maybe The Joker came to Ra's after the plane went down and in exchange for his knowledge of Robin's death Ra's would help him get back on his feet.

He picks up Robin in secret, pulls out all the stops to get away with the body, takes him back to a Lazarus Pit and brings him back. He feeds him psuedo-bullcrap for a decade and keeps up his training, planning to use him against the Dark Knight at some point in the future.

Anyway, now that Ra's was dead all the back-up plans and things he'd been saving (i.e, Jason) were threw away by the remaining League of Shadows, including Jason's release. I doubt they would've known the significance of what they were releasing.

It's not too late for DC to retcon it to something similar to that. ^ Maybe the return of Ra's could bring it about. I've just always felt Batman didn't quite fit in (or at least, Batman and Detective Comics) with the rest of the DCU. He's always been grounded in realitity, the breaking of the space time whosit by Superboy resulting in the resurrection of a long dead character just doesn't work for a Batman comic. IMO, at least.

I personally think that it would have been best if Jason Todd was Hush and was revived by the Lazerus pit (as initially hinted by the series). It was a pretty high profile arc and it would have been a good pay off. The real identity of Hush was kinda lame.

here's a nice little story. from Black & White vol.2
