Jeffrey Wright IS Commissioner Gordon

I just came out for a good time discussing fan casting history and you guys are making me feel very attacked right now.

This is a targeted assault on my character and you’ll be hearing from my lawyers.

Very oddly looks like Paddy Considine but not really lmao

Pacino is incredibly subtle and measured in his earlier performances, such as Michael Corleone in The Godfather and Part II. I mean the studio wanted Coppola to fire him because they thought he was too quiet and subtle.

Same thing with Pacino. I’m well aware of his early work. But the majority of Pacino’s career has been about larger than life performances. It’s what he’s known for.

Measured, subtle performances are the hardest to pull off, especially in this genre, but it's those types of roles that hold it all together, and Wright's up to the task. Just the command he has with his voice allows him to almost whisper, like he does in the trailer, and still have presence.

In regards to Pacino, any actor with decades on film eventually becomes a caricature of themselves. After Tom Cruise had his COVID meltdown, my SO couldn't understand why he's even a star because he's such a horrible actor. I asked if she saw Born on the 4th of July or Magnolia? After she said no, I got up and left the room. She was unqualified for that conversation, a recurring problem in 21st Century 'Merica smh.

Al going from young outsider to cold, calculating crime figure might be the greatest subtle performance I've ever seen, it's such a dramatic but understated shift. The fact he's more known for yelling and cussing nowadays is a little disconcerting....

Well I have seen Born on the 4th of July and I don’t think Tom Cruise is that great of an actor either.

I do agree with your last paragraph about Pacino as Michael Corleone though.

You don’t become the biggest movie star in the world by being a bad actor.

Eh.....at one time John Wayne was probably the biggest movie star in the world, and John Wayne could only play John Wayne.

Being a huge movie star isn't necessarily indicative of your acting abilities.

Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Will Smith are huge movie stars, and there's plenty of people who are far better actors than any of them.

Tom Cruise is a great actor. But you can be a giant movie star and be incredibly mediocre or worse. Keanu is a huge star with great presence but he’s like John Wayne in that they both couldn’t act their way out of a paper bag. And don’t mention the awards because the Academy have given nominations and trophies to some of the worst performances in history.

Pacino’s best work is his “less is more” character work but he’s known for his over the top roles because he’s simply done more in that style.

Saying John Wayne can’t act is the most boring, basic opinion there is and only repeated by people who haven’t actually seen John Wayne act.

Did he play the same character type often? Yes. Does that mean he’s a bad actor? No.

Screen presence is acting.

Screen presence is not acting. Because of my father’s taste growing up i’m sure I’ve seen more John Wayne movies that you’ll see in two lifetimes.

There’s a reason why the close up in Stagecoach launched him into super stardom. The Searchers isn’t the performance of a great actor? Come on.

“Playing yourself” is hard. Why are John Wayne and Brad Pitt and Cary Grant and Keanu and whoever huge stars and Sam Worthington and Hayden Christensen and Taylor Kitsch aren’t? Transformative acting is great but it’s not the only thing.

Are you saying Brad Pitt plays Brad Pitt in Twelve Monkeys.

So if I think John Wayne is a bad actor that means that my overall opinion is “playing yourself is bad acting”? Eddie your ability to take something at the volume of 1 and jump to the volume of 100 is incredible.

Whatever dude, that’s clearly the conversation that’s happening between talking about Cruise and Pitt and Wayne.

And yeah, Pitt kinda is in 12 Monkeys. Crazy Pitt is definitely one of his modes he relys on.
