His form is so bad it takes the realism out of the video

Seriously.

Also why do I get the feeling everyone here either skimmed the article or stopped reading after the first paragraph?

OK... correct me if I'm wrong...

isn't Hawkeye's being able to hit any target his ability. So it's not the weapon that matters but the whatever you uses he can hit the target. Like dude can hit a bulls eye with a paper airplane cause he's just that nice?

In the Ultimate comics, yeah. Not sure if they'll bring that into the movies.

I thought that's the Hawkeye they were going with and the Bow/Arrow is just his weapon of choice cause he knows he looks like a pure bad ass.

Seriously.

I read it top to bottom twice just to make sure I didn't miss the part where he knew anything about Hawkeye. I didn't miss it, he knows nothing about the character except what he saw for 8 seconds in trailer footage. Which not only makes his argument invalid since he has no knowledge base for this comparison, but it makes his coming on here and whining that "fanboys are stupid and don't get it" all the more ridiculous.

Yep. In both the 616 and Ultimate universes he has an innate and borderline superhuman ability to get arrows on target REGARDLESS how/where/etc he shoots them from. In the 616 universe he learned trick archery from circus folk, in the Ultimate universe he was a former Olympian. But in not of the comic stories does he ever come across as the best archer in the world simply because of practice and form.

I wouldn't say fanboys are stupid but the point of the article really did go over the heads of...well, just about everybody. It's being taken too seriously. It's just all in good fun saying "If he really did this, that would go wrong." I mean after reading the posts here I expected some snot nosed brat going on about how the type of bow is all wrong for this kind of shot. I actually had a laugh seeing that Hawkeye was really doing more harm to himself than good. Especially the point about needing two guards because he keeps whacking himself with his own chord.

Just because a person doesn't know about the character doesn't mean they don't know about the subject. I'd like to hear a gun/military expert's opinion on The Punisher as much as I'd like to hear an archery expert's opinion on Hawkeye. I just don't get why fanboys have to jump on anything remotely critical like piranha with blood in the water.

And this is where you and he are wrong. Hawkeye is not a professionally trained competitive archer, so comparing his avante garde shooting style to the droves of pros and amateurs is pointless.

If he had done a few minutes of research on the Googles and the Internets he would have known this, and thus avoided looking like a nitpicking buffoon.

I'll put it this way, for all intents and purposes I'm a firearms expert. I've been a member of military law enforcement for 11 years. I'm a range master, SRT instructor and taught NRA courses for years.

But even I know that the occasional student will come in and, regardless of flubbing up all the fundamentals of firing, will still have pinpoint accuracy. Why? Because it's their innate ability with a weapons system. Do you think we ***** them out and force them to fit our methodology? Hell no. That's ridiculous. The point is to get lead on target. If a person does that with close to 100% efficiency but lacks all manner of form it doesn't matter

Yep this makes perfect sense to me.

See this is what I thought... I just felt it wasn't just arrows. I thought he could hit the target if he was using a sling shot because his Ability/Talent was accuracy... not using a certain weapon.

Who gives a crap about his form, HE'S HAWKEYE AND HE'S IN A MOVIE AND OMG....OMG

I read all of the guys original article. It was informative and very well researched and explained. But when someone creates an account to come to our website for the express purpose of complaining about the users on here who don't take him seriously on another website....I figure the least they should expect is some ribbing for their stance.

In one of his posts here he tries to belittle some of our posters by talking about "fanboy outrage" on here.....does he mean the type of fanboy outrage that includes following someone who says something bad about you on one site to another site and then complaining about them there?

I'm curious as to how he knew his story got posted here. He has every right to defend himself, but he had to realize his critique was very superficial.

Maybe he has his name set for a Google Alert *shrug* He got torn apart in the io9 comment thread, since then I've noticed him comment on every site and messageboard that mentioned that article so it looks like he's got a steady eye on where his content goes.

I think you might be confusing Hawkeye with Bullseye. Hawkeye is a master marksman, sure, with ranged weapons; but Bullseye can more or less weaponize *anything* into a lethal throwing weapon. Using a paper airplane as a weapon is Bullseye's schtick, not Hawkeye's.
