The Avengers Jeremy Renner is Hawkeye! - Part 1

I had to stop myself from reading that, it gave away too many spoilers.

Just a sidenote unoticable by most, but Renner changes from a right handed to a left handed archer from Thor to Avengers

Unless they're flipping the shots in the trailers like they've done with the Hulk shots, but I doubt it. My guess it's from the archery training he's supposedly had, which he probably lacked in Thor

Hmm, let's not be too pedantic about these things.

Was it ever explained why they decided not to go for a cowl for Hawkeye?

Yea, Whedon basically said, what works in the comics, doesn't always work on film. I'd have to agree in the case of Hawkeyes costume.

Guess they just liked the Ultimate Hawkeye look better. But it's annoying as hell that they're ignoring the shades that Ultimate Hawkeye wears; we've seen promo art and action figures wearing those trademark sunglasses, but I have yet to see an actual film clip or photo of Renner wearing them. He *needs* to be wearing those....a lot.

Pretty sweet interview CBM posted about Renner and Whedon talking in depth about Hawkeye:
it's a pity that whedon is as visually unimaginative as I thought. hawkeyes 616 costume AND his mask would work on the sreen with a little effort and a costume designer who knows what he is doing.
but since hey didn't even got cap's costume right, I'm glad they left hawkeyes costume ultimate and give us (hopefully) a proper hawkeye costume in a shield movie or the avengers sequel.

I don't see it. I mean, yes, you could *make* his costume in real life. . . but I don't see it working visually or dramatically.

Or: viewers aren't going to take Hawkeye seriously if he's dressed up like a circus performer.

and yet people are perfectly fine with the way captain america dresses. guess what? it's a super hero movie. audiences expect to see people wearing colourful outfits (unless it is batman). don't tell me they're not taking him seriously because his outfit features the colour purple and he covers his face.

But you have to think logically about these things. Is there a logical reason that a high level SHIELD agent would wear a more stylized costume?

I love his costume..I agree with whedon on not wanting to cover up Renners face..the guy does a terrific job with subtle facial expressions..I wouldn't want that to be lost

logically a high level SHIELD agent wouldn't even wear the Ultimate costume.

It would be funny if he eventually settled into a more stylized costume to be "in" with the clique in sequels.

Actually yeah... he would
It's been established in all the movies that SHIELD has appeared in that black/grey/dark blue leather jumpsuits are standard attire. For Hawkeye to be any different wouldn't make any sense. Maybe in a sequel, he'll venture off from SHIELD and find his own path and his own costume... but not in this movie.

neither was it established that those jumpsuits are standard attire since no one is wearing them so far (I know that changes in TA but in IM, IM2 and Thor all we see are suits or soldiers, none of them wearing the jumpsuits...except BW and even that is a variation) nor IS Hawkeye wearing those standard jumpsuits. instead he is wearing the ultimate costume with something that resembles a purple arrow pointing to his crotch. it already IS different and every reason you can have for THOSE differences can also be used for the 616 costume.

It's his Ultimate costume exactly.

He, Fury, and Widow are all wearing their Ultimate costumes exactly. They're the Ultimate versions of those characters so it makes perfect sense.

Isn't it more of a hybrid? He's got his ultimate costume but they seem to have gone with purple as a homage as opposed to red.

It's a paler red as an homage, sure. But it's still the Ultimate costume

Whedon said that it was important to see Renner's face so that you could see all of his facial expressions and really connect with him. So thats why they decided to go with no mask

I wan't implying that every SHIELD agent wears the same kind of jumpsuit, it's just that they all generally resemble one another. What do you not get about that? Hawkeye's costume = SHIELD agent uniform. Whether not not it's different from other SHIELD agents in design, it's a SHIELD agent uniform none the less. Hawkeye=SHIELD agent=black=leather=navy=jumsuit=SHIELD=Hawkeye
Hawkeye is a SHIELD agent, SHIELD agent is a Hawkeye. SHIELD agents wear dark jumpsuits, Hawkeye wears a dark jumpsuit. Hawkeye is not wearing a costume he's wearing a uniform, SHIELD agents don't wear costumes they wear uniforms. Hawkeye doesn't wear a costume therefor he can't wear his 616 costume

This:

Does not resemble a SHIELD agent uniform in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER

It's not pale red, it's burgundy. Which is a mix of purple and red

All the regular (not specialized) SHIELD agents wear blue and white jumpsuits like Cobie Smulders wears when they are on the Helicarrier. It's their version of a flight suit. Coulson wears a suit most of the time because he's a road agent. Fury is the Director.
