Action-Adventure John Wick: Chapter 4

The reason the ending HAS the impact it does is because he's dead. His journey has come to its inevitable conclusion. There is no riding out in the sunset for John. If its a fakeout it just cheapens it. And honestly, guys, from a story standpoint, what more is there to do with John? Trust me, seeing Keanu mow through hundreds of baddies in every movie would get old after a while. I'm so happy they made the decision to go out on top and make one big final epic, bloody last hurrah. The world of Wick can stay alive through other characters, theres plenty of story potential to be mined without Keanu.

There's a line said right before his death with Donnie Yen about "People who cling to death, live" and that was a bit of a dead giveaway. He obviously faked this death with the help of Laurence Fishburne so he can live without anyone coming after him. Also I don't think the filmmakers are worried about cheapening anything. I was listening to a pod with the film head of Lionsgate and they way he was talking about this franchise, it's clear he's coming back. Especially after the boxfoffice it's getting. Him coming back is smart business decision... just not a smart creative one.

There's definitely potential for a lot of cool spinoffs in this universe and I'm down for all of it. I just hope they keep most of the stunt people and writers involved so that it at least feels consistent with the films.

A
Donnie Yen/Akira
spinoff movie or show is definitely a must though.

Spoilers beware!

Wow, didn’t think that was on the cards. Shows how successful these films have been. More Keanu and Co in this is something I’m happy to sign up for.

I just hope, whatever spin-offs they may make, they hire more interesting directors than Len Wiseman.

Speaking of, is this the first franchise where four movies have all been directed by the same guy (Chad Stahelski)? That's gotta be a record.

Look, I'm absolutely down for more of this universe just....dont dilute it please, Hollywood has this nasty habit of never knowing when enough is enough and milking cash cows until people are sick of them (Toy Story 5), as long as they bring something new and unique to the table I'm game.

It's already diluted the moment they made a sequel to the original. It was better knowing less about this world.

I was actually a... little disappointed? 4 might be my least favourite of the series. That's not to say it's bad. There's absolutely a bunch of memorable things here that the franchise is known for. Quite a few fun new characters too. I can't really put a finger on what it was that kept me from loving it, but it didn't quite get there. Plot-wise it didn't really escalate the way I had anticipated, and action-wise it definitely escalated, but in some places almost too much to where it became less impactful.

No I don’t think so. The first four Indiana Jones movies were all from Steven Spielberg. Michael Bay directed 5 Transformers movies. I mean now you can say those filmmakers haven’t directed all of the films in those series tho. But you can probably say the same for Wick depending on what Lionsgate does.

Also Justin Lin has done 5 Fast and Furious movies right?

I will happily have just the Quadrilogy to rewatch any time and I don't want any crappy spinoff touching them. We all know is just gonna be diminishing returns from this point on. I'm satisfied with his story coming to an end. CAN SOME THINGS JUST... END?
F****** franchises.

I always wanted to end the way it did but the trouble is, its not good for business and money talks in this business. I hope Ballerina is interesting enough and unique enough to be its own thing but I am concerned its got a lot live up to against the rest of the franchise and as mush as I love Ana is she really going to be able to pull off what Keanu has four times, tough act to follow.

I would've liked a happy ending for him, but I totally respect their decision. It's a creative choice and I would really like for the studio to respect it. Some stories need to end. Some characters need to end. Not everything has to go on forever.
The way studios are milking stuff until they are no longer special (*coughs*StarWars*coughs*) is disheartening.
