Action-Adventure John Wick: Chapter 4

I will happily have just the Quadrilogy to rewatch any time and I don't want any crappy spinoff touching them. We all know is just gonna be diminishing returns from this point on. I'm satisfied with his story coming to an end. CAN SOME THINGS JUST... END?
F****** franchises.

AMEN!

Boo… not with how I perceived the ending.

I’m more than happy getting spin-offs, just keep up the vibes and talent with the action… these are one of the last shiny lights in action cinema. Just keep them unique and put the effort in.

I’ll take 10 more films in this universe than 10 more Marvel/DC (non-Batman)/F&F movies.

Hell, they only did 4 in 9 years… they respect their own property.

Me over the last 3 hours:

Give me all the Caine content. ALL OF IT!!!!

Time to rave about the movie now that I've had some time to think, and for my bowels to settle.

I was a little worried about the film for the first 2/3s of the film. Make no mistake, it was still fun. The Osaka sequence is just amazing, and Rina Sawayama's Akira is a wonderful new addition. Of course, Donnie Yen's Caine is amazing, but, we get so much more of him. The action in Osaka and Berlin were great, but I was missing some of the crazy unique things like we were getting in 3's NY sequence, between the knife tossing, death by book, death by horse, hell, being chased by motorcycle ninjas on horseback.

But then we get to Paris and the roundabout. And god, I was having fun then. Sure, the cars were a little obviously CG, but I was having fun of random goon getting hit by a car. And then the top down framing of the Dragon's Breath fight, and finally the stair fight. Though, Wick tumbling down all of them was so obviously scripted, I laughed.

As for the franchise, as long we keep getting fun action, keep them coming. And more Akira and Caine, please.

So you hated it, huh? :o

What's everyone's favorite set piece in this? I absolutely loved them all but for me personally Osaka takes the cake, everything about that was just :hmr::hmr::hmr::hmr::hmr:
I'd say the Osaka as well

I love how after the nunchuck fight, we get a fight between Caine and John. It's just such a phenomenal sequence, and of course akira as well. It's one of my favorite action scenes of all time.

I'm having a hard time processing my thoughts about this film, and I may have to see it again to fully understand how I feel about it, but I will say this.

The stunts, cinematography, and action sequences did not disappoint. Donnie Yen was spectacular. As were most of the new supporting characters.

Did I like the movie? Yes, of course. But I can't help feeling a little let down. The way they handled the last 2 to 3 minutes was not good.

When he laid down on the steps, there was nothing to indicate that he had died. Then the very next shot is his tombstone. I was shocked. I literally yelled out loud, "THAT killed him!?" I don't buy it. And I'm the only one that noticed the nice green grass around his head stone?? Indicating no hole had been dug?? Surely, this isn't the last we've seen of him. And if it is, it will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall, a great action flick, and a good, but not the best, John Wick movie.

Chapter 1 9.5/10
Chapter 2 7/10
Chapter 3 9/10
Chapter 4 8.5/10

Will see it again.

EDIT: I feel like I should clarify something...

I'm not upset that they killed him. That's how I wanted this amazing saga to eventually end. I'm upset with HOW they killed him, and the 30 seconds that they devoted to the aftermath. John Wick deserved a Tony Stark-like send off. I wanted to see John Leguizamo, Halle Berry, David Patrick Kelly, and Thomas Sadoski, just to name a few, show up to pay their respects. 30 seconds with Winston and the Bowery King wasn't enough.

I enjoyed the movie, and it looks great. Great cinematography, and great action, but a couple things.

It easily could've been 20 minutes shorter. Maybe 2 and a half hours instead of almost 3. My biggest problem is there is no real reason for John going to Osaka. Like it's a fun sequence and everything, but why does John even go there? Also, the opening prologue is rendered pointless later in the film.

They built this up as John taking down The Table, but that was a total bait and switch. I feel they kind of wrote themselves into a corner a bit with this setup.

Donnie Yen was awesome in this movie, and so was Scott Adkins even though it was a small role. When I found out that was Adkins, I was like holy smokes.

This playing during that particular sequence was just cinematic bliss. I would LIVE in that scene if I could.

Re-listening to Rina's wonderful album... ironic she already had a song called 'Send My Love To John' now that she's Akira.

I'd say the Osaka as well

Literally once the Osaka sequence ended, they could have rolled credits and I would have walked out the movie fully satisfied. That whole set piece was phenomenal and gave me everything I've always in an action sequence.

So today, THR is talking about John Wick 5.
Thats okay. But, if you stretch credibility too much you will LOSE the audience.

See... I love that John 'went home' with this ending. I want him to stay dead - this was beautiful way to go out.

Recent emotional legendary character death rankings;

1) James Bond | No Time To Die
2) John Wick | John Wick - Chapter 4
3) Dwight Riley | 5CREAM
4) James Howlett | Logan

This felt more like those and less like the finale of 24.

Once the Osaka sequence ended, I was left wondering how in the world will they top this?

...And then the last hour happened.

I’m sure the suits are discussing how to make it possible i just hope cooler heads prevail and resist for the time being. Let is rest for a while, im totally down for the Ballerina and Continental spinoffs in the meantime.

John Wick 5 will happen when Keanu wants it to happen, no earlier, no later.
