Action-Adventure John Wick: Chapter 4

Man, this franchise has come such a long way since that first movie, and I couldn't be happier for it because these guys deserve all the success for putting so much hard work into these movies.

It's great seeing each installment steadily increase at the BO which is something I don't think has happened much since the 90's and early 2000's outside of a few rare exceptions like Creed.

Austin Powers, The Bourne Identity and some of the Bond films are the only ones that really come to mind for me right now, but just like back in the day with home video rentals/sales I think streaming has really worked wonders for this franchise in terms constantly building up its audience due to positive WOM.

Hate that the earliest that I can watch this is tomorrow. So damn jealous of you guys.

I was going to watch Creed III partly because I thought it would be the best, partly because it's been out longer and also because it got legit good reactions, but the reactions by EVERYONE in here have been off the scale. Not even the standard contrarian in sight. Looks like I have been left no choice by you people. :funny:

I loved Creed III, but I would recommend John Wick 4 being next film you watch in the theater. It's a show stopper

Thanks, seems like 100% consensus on that here so far, despite people loving Creed III. Not many recommending Shazam over…anything else lol, even in a superhero forum.

Shazam 2 is a fine movie. But I concur that it's one you can stream later. Creed III I would say is what I would watch....after John Wick 4

For comparison, JW1 had a B+ while JW2 and JW3 got A- scores.

Did anyone else think the "I am Klaus" character was a direct homage to Groot from GOTG? Literally cracks me up when it randomly pops up in my head from the film like so many moments do.

That is my current plan, (as shaped by my fellow Hypesters) with D&D to follow and then I guess Mario before Shazam - which will likely be out for home viewing by that point. Would still rather see it in the cinema but chances are faltering. 65 was also on the list but reactions seem not too great on that one. I’d thought Adam Driver and dinos would be an unbeatable formula, but it’s not going to work if you skimp on the dinos (dummy!).

I liked Shazam 2 but out of the March sequels it is definitely the weakest. I thought Creed III, Scream VI and John Wick: Chapter 4 all delivered, with Wick in particular being a masterwork imo.

Thanks also, Scream VI I’ll be waiting for streaming. I’m a wimp when it comes to horror and will be watching it in daylight and the ability to pause it anytime I want. :D

I’ve never fell this far behind at this time of year, although I used to go to the cinema most weeks so it was easy to catch up on any backlog.

Within the opening SECONDS of this movie, I was in love with it. The opening minute of the film sets SUCH a tone and vibe and just gets you in a "F*** YEAH I'M READY" mood and the people who saw it know what I'm talkin' about. Then the movie just puts its foot on the gas and goes at mach 10.

After the first hour, i literally was feeling like the movie could have just ended there and it would have been a 10/10. I felt like I ate a full course meal by the end of hour 1...but then there was nearly TWO DAMN HOURS LEFT. The rest of the movie was sweet, sugary dessert.

There's so much i wanna say about this, but to those who have not seen it, believe the hype, this is not hyperbole, this is not a drill, this IS one of THE best action movies ever made. Period. This is not up for discussion. Stahelski's command of shooting in camera action is damn near unmatched. And not just action scenes are beautiful, the quiet, talky scenes are all DRENCHED in lush, gorgeously shot cinematography and makes you just want to soak in this rich world they've created.

This is a bit of a controversial take but while I very much enjoyed JW 3, I had felt by the climax of that movie it had lost the story a bit and we were just getting action for the sake of action so i wasn't as invested in it. Chapter 4 rectifies that, the action in this movie is all story driven and there is a feeling of stakes, you care this time about John mowing through through all these baddies. And for that, i think this is easily the best of the franchise.

There's so much more I wanna say, I felt choked up at the end and cant wait for everyone to see it so we can discuss the ending. This movie was a masterpiece of action cinema.
