Joker's OTF Switchblade

First off, that Dalton site is a major ripoff. Some of their plain everyday looking blades cost as high as 9,000

YES, NINE THOUSAND. Even the best quality is not worth that much.

But what i really came here for was to let ya know if ya haven't found it. http://www.dellsmart.com/ is selling the cupids now. The ones they say are the same as jokers have climbed to 39.99(which they have in stock). Moments ago, though, i grabbed the Cupid 3.0, which looks prettymuch exactly the same for 24.99 and free shipping. It may be lesser quality and is not branded with the "THSI IS FROM TDK" stuff so i assume that's why it's cheaper, but i'm not rollin in cash here. Snag em while they got em ;)

*Update* They already shipped that knife. Lightning fast, only maybe 30 min after i put my order in. Dellsmart is looking excellent so far.

Also it seems from some reviews i have seen the cupid 3 is not quite as good as the others, but seems damn close. So if you are strapped on cash and the 15 bucks makes a difference, hit it up.(plus they have more of those in stock and you may not have much time after this gets read ;)

I agree with jigsawklr about the knife not being sharpened, as Hollywood's propensity for stunt safety is well-known; which, to me, only reinforces the argument that the knives used were cheap knock-offs to begin with...Dalton's comment also lends credibility to the clone argument. And besides...if I were the movie's property master, I wouldn't want the responsibility for keeping up with several $900+ knives, when I could buy 5 for 100 bucks and afford to lose them...:cwink:
Rob

Yeah, I definitely agree with all of the above. If they were going to modify the knives anyway, they were better off with cheap ones they could afford to break and mess up. Also it may be a crappy knife for, you know, your average career criminal who holds up a fundraiser for your city's D.A., but it was a prop, and it was form over function, really. It didn't need to be the best knife, it just needed to look right. But, I do like it even if you think about it in the sense that the Joker selected that knife...for some reason it just makes sense to me that he would find more delight in the cheap and common knife than a really good, expensive one.

Update 2: The "Free Shipping" is First Class, they said i should have it by friday at the latest. Damn good deal. Get em while they got em, boys!

Dellsmart had the China Cupid Smooth Blade, which is the actual knife used in The Dark Knight but they are completely sold out once again. The other knife available is the Cupid 3.0 which has the ridges and is not the Joker knife.

It's the same knife, it just has serrated edges on the lower part. Other than the serration it's the exact same damn thing. It's better than some peopel who have super cheap ugly looking knockoffs or ones that don't look ANYTHING like the one joker used. Anyways i'm mostly getting it because it';s a damn cool looking knife, and i've always wanted a switchblade. Seems as good a time as any to snag one.

You are right though, the china smooth is the exact knife. It has those lil grooves at the bottom of the blade.

Man, i love this knife. I can't take pics(no working camera) but Lemme tell you, this sucker is quality. Sharp as a razor, strong sturdy construction and it goes *SCHNIK* when ya press the button. Mm Hmm Good.

Anyone know how to strengthen the spring in these clones, and take some of the slop out of the blade?
Rob

No clue dude. The Cupid 3 i got dosn't need it. It comes out hard and fast and only has a very tiny amount of blade jiggle.

Replace the spring in it with a better quality spring. That's why I refuse to own a clone knife.

Also, I got an answer to exactly what knife the Joker uses in the movie. It is not a Dalton, but it also is not a clone. It is a real knife by a real company, with whom I've had correspondance with. I am ordering mine soon so I will not disclose it until after I order because I don't want the price to go up. He carried 3 of the company's knives in the movie. So, for those speculating it was a clone, it, in fact, was not. The knife is not a cheap knife by any stretch of the imagination. I had speculation on two companies, and my suspicions have been confirmed. I will have an identical one to the one the Joker has, save the fact that his was dullled.

And for those of you that bought the clones, yours isn't as accurate as you might believe, and the eBay listing make you think. The Joker's knife was not black in color. I'll leave it at that. Once mine is ordered, I'll post what it is along with the message from the manufacturer.

I made a freaking thread about this before the movie was out. I believe the switch blade is actually custom so you probably can't find another. I found a OTF knife with the same pattern and same design online though.

Thats a bullsh** amount of money. It doesn't cost anything to make it. Haha. Most knives on here suck anyways and I listed em in my old thread.

Big whoop...I refuse to own a knife that costs more than 20 bucks, when, in fact, it will be forgotten about by next year, and a new Batman villain's weapon-of-choice will be all the rage....it's for a freakin' costume, dude, lighten up on the dramatics...:whatever:
Rob

Haha. You guys are not buying the real thing even for 900 bucks haha. The knife was completely custom.

I collect knives anyway, I currently have near 130 in my collection. A quality knife doesn't lose it's value because of a movie. It gains in value because of the fact that the manufacturer makes a limited run of knives regardless of the movie. It is in no way affiliated with the movie, they simply bought their knife. And for the person asking, not it wasn't custom from the manufacturer. The knife was bought from the manufacturer as you and I can buy it. The movie studio did the alteration to the knife, which was dulling the blade.

You see, the reason I collect knives is because that's what interests me. I own only quality knives. A cheap knife doesn't hold an edge like a quality knife does, nor will it get as sharp. Every Spyderco, the couple of Daltons, the Microtechs, the Ontario Knife Company, the Benchmades, the Klotzlis, the Bokers, the CRKT's, you get the point. Every one that I own will split hairs, and they're all going to make those clones look like a filed spoon. I don't own many knives that are under $100, but the ones I do are still quality knives. My prized posession is my Daltons and one of my Microtechs.

No sir, the knife was not completely custom. It was a stock knife that was modified by the movie studio to remove the edge on it. The particular knife comes with a microbevel direct from the manufacturer and had he held it up to anyone's face like he did in the movie, it would have cut them. They're microbeveled around 10 degrees, which is in the same neighborhood as most razor blades.

Probably the same knife he used to cut his lips considering he has a credit card smile. He used a knife or razor blade to cut his lips.

Here's another look while we're debating...

Glad to know you enjoy your hobby....:cwink:...no offence meant, but to me, this is only for a one-time thing, as I do costuming as a hobby, so it makes sense for me to limit how much I spend on any one given prop...the dang Joker trenchcoat and SA shirt are costing me 10 times what I paid for the knife...:yay:

I hope you don't think it's a Paragon and have in truth found something accurate that no one else has found...

It isn't a Paragon ATKO, if that's the knife you were thinking. I've been in contact with the manufacturer of the actual knife. I bought one already but it's not purple, it's black. I have my guys looking at a few area knife shows trying to find me a purple one. I want to get one before the price skyrockets.

That's good to hear.
So is the knife not black? Is it a deep purple color instead?
Would you be willing to share details through PM? I understand wanting to keep a lid on it to keep the prices down. I give you my word I'll keep my mouth shut about it. I've seen what happened to the clones. If there's something more accurate out there I'd like to get it before the same thing happens.

I don't know what knife "jigsawklr" thinks he has found, or what information he thinks he has recieved, but he is absolutely and totally wrong in saying that the knife used in the film isn't one of the clones. It absolutely is. Sorry.

It's the one from the Bladeplay site, that have now sold out... I have seen "The Dark Knight" 4 times now, 1 time in IMAX, and everytime the scene somes up where The Joker is holding the knife fo Rachel's face, and he tells his story, there are money shots galore of the knife, and I have taken my attention completely away from the scene and just watched and inspected every angle of the knife...

1. The knife is absolutely without question black... Where this purple thing is coming from, I have no idea. You obviously have not seen, or not payed close attention to the movie...

2. You can tell which knife it is, simple from some of the promotional shots taken of Heath as the Joker for toy and merchandising designs, as seen here:

^^^That knife, if you just look at it there, or save the image and magnify sevel times, is clearly black... And clearly the clone that Bladeplay, and several other places were selling. That knife is also, without a doubt the one The Joker uses in the film. As I said, I have examined it very closely every time I have seen the film. There is absolutely no doubt or question in my mind on this matter.

So to Jig, if you are a collector of knifes, and are just looking for another cool knife to add to your collection, that's cool... But if you are looking for the knife the Joker uses in the film, you are wasting your money on whatever this one you are buying is. You got some bum info. Sorry...

The knife in the film, is the Bladeplay clone.
