News from The International Toy Fair 2008 in New York confirms that Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("3rd Rock from the Sun") will be taking on the role of Cobra Commander in the upcoming GI Joe movie from Paramount Pictures. This news was once announced last month Click Here, but quickly taken down from the source, leaving us wondering if it was leaked early or incorrect. Well, now we know and knowing is half the battle. :(

Actually I said I wouldn't believe it until they actually announced it.

Horrible. I have no problem with JGL, but how can we take seriously that a skinny little kid can run/start/oversee a huge ass terrorist organization? And how goofy is it going to look to see him barking orders at elder actors like Arnold Vosloo? He's just too damn young/wrong/baby faced. Sorry, but THIS is the worst casting for the movie, IMHO. :down

And it seems to me like they cast him just so the "twist" won't seem as obvious since he's just a "kid". :whatever:

Funnily enough, JGL and Channing Tatum play war buddies in "Stop Loss".

Though I agree wholehartedly with Dog Lips.

if he's in the helmet/mask does it really matter? I figured acting with body language would be the important thing

He may not fit, but he's at this point the only thing that makes me interested in this movie, so it must be good for something.

He'll be bulked and ready for the role, I assume.

This film still doesn't sound even remotely mediocre at this point.

just going off the original cartoon and the comics...Cobra Commander seemed like an average height and weight type guy....Sigma Six had him all big....I remember episodes of this average size guy with a helmet on jumping up and down on top of a HISS tank and yelling "COBRA......RETREAT"

Um .. ok.

Yet another disappointing casting decision.

Despite it's hit and miss casting, I'll probably see this flick eventually. Though my interest is dropping like a stone with some of these names being confirmed. Might just wait for DVD. As I cant see, atleast at the moment, this being in my "must see" list anytime soon.

Oh well.

The guy is a pretty good actor and he isn't even that young anymore, can't wait for this movie.

COBRAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is really not sounding good to me at all, but I like JGL. He was great in Mysterious Skin, Brick, and The Lookout, along with lesser appreciated movies I like.
As for if he's a good choice for Cobra Commander, I find him way too young. Not baby faced young, but his actual age frame. He doesn't have a baby-face anymore.

How can they hire a cool guy like Dennis Quaid for General Hawk and then pick a lightweight like JGL for Cobra Commander? That sh1t ain't right.

People need to stop posting that picture of JGL with his shirt off and all those wires...it's disturbing.

Wasn't aware it's been posted numerous times.

Besides, I think it's disturbing in an artistic way

i havent really been following the casting for gi joe so i decided to check the fourms 2day and the first fourm i see is the kid from third rock from the sun is cobra commander, i'll never claim to be a gi joe expert but i mean come on cobra commander is at least one of the best villans ever and to have a kid like this play him seems like a slap in the face to all the fans when they clearly should have gone older with the role

Exactly.

If they go with not showing his face like they probably should, it won't matter. Cobra Commander was always skinny, and from early script reviews they're saying they inject him with some kind of steroids and such to make that makes him go insane, and that this is more of the beginning of Cobra. Don't so hastily write him off just by his looks.

Can he do a good voice? That's the key. People make it sound like CC was the greatest heavyweight fighter in the universe, when he was anything but.

Exactly. I understand it might be hard NOT to picture him in youthful roles, but he has turned out to be a great actor in adulthood so I think he could pull it off.

This kid couldn't wash Cobra Commander's soiled hood.

This movie is dead to me.

Interesting choice for CC, I would have like Gary Oldman, but JGL is a solid actor, I'll give it a chance.
