Age of Ultron Josh Brolin Is Thanos, The Mad Titan

Any news or idea if we'll see Lady Death?

I kind of hope we don't, actually. I feel like Thanos' romantic obsession with death is more effective if death is presented as an abstract concept and isn't personified. Like, maybe if we have a moment where we see things from Thanos' perspective and we see Lady Death as a part of some delusional fantasy Thanos is having, but not as a literal character in the film.

Yeah I don't like the idea of Lady Death as a character, it's a hard one to add to a movie

But one that's crucial to Thanos' mindset. The thing that makes Thanos the creepiest of all in IG is the fact that he's wiping out half the universe just to impress his girlfriend.

And yeah, I've always been a proponent of the idea that "Lady Death" is just a hallucination in Thanos' crazy brain. Which makes his motive for killing everything that lives even more creepy: he's doing it to impress his imaginary girlfriend. He's the Manti Teo of death gods. :oldrazz:

I'd want Lady Death to show up as a real character though. In my mind it makes it much more terrifying because it's not just a mental problem. He wants to impress the entity and form of the concept of Death. Besides, I want Summer Glau to appear in a Marvel movie somehow, and Lady Death would be awesome for her. Also Death appeared in a carving in GOTG confirming her existence as well as Infinity, Eternity, and what they called Entropy instead of Oblivion. It'd be awesome to see all of them on the big screen.

Death being a carving doesn't maker her anything more than mythical still though. I mean...in our society we have depictions of death everywhere too

I didn't mean that it was, it was just a cool easter egg.:oldrazz:

Adding the actual character of Death to the equation isn't really difficult...like at all. And if we play on the "maybe she doesn't exist or is a figment of Thanos' imagination" card it cheapens the character so very much.

Having her be personified gives him more depth and makes him a lot more than just your standard "I wanna destroy everything just because" villain.

Would love to see a personification of death. Mainly because it means we might get to see The Living Tribunal on the big screen.

Just as I stated in the other thread: she's too important for showing his motivations and personality to be omitted. I'm sure it will make him more compelling than i.e. Malekith who lacked proper development. And I know that MS is able to bring us Death not only as an imagination of Thanos but as a real character.

I would love to see the tragedy of Thanos' unfulfilled love in the way we saw it at the end of "Thanos Quest" mini-series. Just imagine Thanos, elated after gaining all Infinity Gems, who appears before Death's throne and declares himself powerful enough to become her equal and sit by her side... he claims that slavery is not the relationship he is satisfied with. He seeks her honest love instead. But he happens to be her superior now, not her equal, so that she can be no more than a slave to him who just blindly obeys his commands. She doesn't even dare to address him directly - only through her minions. Thanos crushes them in fury, convinced that his desired might has turned into his curse, and leaves Death. That would be the scene worth filming, I guess.

Anything along those lines would be nice and would show Thanos as being the complex & multi-faceted villain he is. In some cases, leaving out things of that nature would be fine. But this isn't one of those cases.

I haven't read anything of Thanos in comics - but tbh I personally wouldn't want Lady Death to be his only motivation for his actions. Sorry if I'm reading into that from this thread and that's NOT the case.

I can imagine Iron Man saying, "So he's doing all this for his imaginary girlfriend...... And I thought this kind of thing only happened in the CW Network."

That does seem to be what the comics indicate... which would really suck. Much more fun to have him be a maniac with a deathwish than doing for his girlfriend... (how cliché too...)

I would enjoy if he were to say that he's doing all this because he is destined to rule. The fact that he's wiping out half the galaxy at the same time is a) to show everyone he can, and b) his mistress really likes the idea.

He's not. Shes not the motive for everything. She's an important part of his psyche and psychological characterization. But in terms of plot, motive, Thanos is more deep than wanting her love. He's a nihilist, seems to have a god complex at times due to extreme loneliness and emptiness. He experiences life the way he does because he simply can. There is no meaning to life.

They can have her appear in one scene, but I don't think she's necessary to have on screen. There's plenty they can do with him, they can most certainly bring his depressing philosophical existentialism on screen without overloading with death.

I've read everything Thanos has been in and I can see it work without having death be the backbone of the story. In fact, making his motivation be romance with death and that's it takes away from the character.

From that, and other things I've read about him, he sounds like a flamboyant version of *whisper it* Darkseid.

Aside from both being villains, Thanos & Darkseid are hardly alike. Their story arcs, motivations & overall characterization are very different. People need to get over making this comparison.

honestly, flamboyant is kind a good way to explain it.

Not like Darkseid, but Thanos is just Thanos. Too much of a character to limit his personal on screen arc and motivation to that of one rooted in his love for death, and that's it.

He can maybe mention it once in passing, but if they can bring about his existentialism, and his philosophical views, that, coupled with a sort of relatively unknown reasoning..now that is a Thanos I want to see.

How I would love the concept of Lady death portrayed is play it is make it so only Thanos can see death so to the audience maybe he could be crazy, or maybe she is a real entity but leave it somewhat a mystery. I would love that, and would make Thanos seem much more bat***** crazy and insane lol. I wish GOTG 2 was a Thanos Quest type storyline.

Let's face it, Thanos just deserves his own movie. :D
