Joss is out of Wonder Woman

Yes, that's right. I just assumed Nazis were going to be in a movie about World War II.

Here's what I know: Silver isn't interested in a period piece. WB is not interested in extensively rewriting someone's script in order to make it fit their standards. You're assuming that the WW2 script that they bought could even be smoothly rewritten into a modern script in the first place. What exactly are you basing that on? Premonitions?

I'm not saying it's not a possibility. I'm saying that they shouldn't.

And I, for one will not be seeing this movie. Not really a WW fan, more of a Whedon fan. I'm out.

That's THE scariest f***ing thing I have ever seen. I'm officially disturbed. Thank you.

Hey, Aronofsky made gritty, dark, human pictures. He was therefore matched up with a gritty, dark, human superhero. But due to a complete lack of love for or understanding of the character he almost turned Batman into a psychotic killer and Alfred into a Wayans brother stereotype. We dodged that bullet pretty well. Not all studio decisions are unintelligent. Sometimes their greed-driven phobia of creativity sifts out ideas that land to far from the mark.

-- END!

I love that now that Whedon is off the project, all the anti Whedon people come out of the woodwork saying things like "Oh, now we can get someone like Ridley Scott or James Cameron to do it" as if there is a snowball's chance in hell that any of those big name director's would do it or know anything about Wonder Woman other than Lynda Carter played her in an old 70's tv show. The only big Wonder Woman fan that I know of in Hollywood is Allan Heinberg ( who currently writes the comic ) and if Joss Whedon isn't a big name in Hollywood, the he most certainly ain't either. Read between the lines here: Warners wants something that appeals to everyone....Fast Food Entertainment. Which Joss is not interested in doing. Neither Buffy, Angel, Firefly, or Serenity appealed to everyone and had a cult audience sensibility. His WW was probably very feminist and very political, which is something that probably scared the studio. All they see in Female Heroes is T&A. Just look at Catwoman, Aeon Flux etc. They are gonna want something campy like Tomb Raider or Charlie's Angels. Trust me...this is where this is headed. If it even gets made now.

Yeah, the same WB that held out for years on both Batman and Superman until they had two gems in Batman Begins and Superman Returns (even if you didn't like SR, you've gotta admit, it certainly wasn't Fast Food Entertainment) have now done a total 360 and decided that they want another Batman & Robin. Have you ever thought - have you ever even considered - that maybe, just maybe what Whedon was writer simply wasn't that good, and WB knew it, and wanted nothing of it? Do you think, for maybe a second, WB is looking for a good script and director to make them money, not some guy who - by his own admission - was struggling to even iron out a good draft?

Really, Lestat74, I do honestly understand what you’re saying and it is true to a certain extent. Honestly though, I think your pessimism for the direction the project is heading in is really as quick to judge as those who now think it will be more like the comics, and/or we’ll get Ridley Scott or James Cameron (and I agree, first item is in no way assured, and there’s no chance for the second item).
I like Joss Whedon. I don’t think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I do respect him as a creative person. That said, I really do think that this was ultimately just a case of an inability to click with the character, so the WB decided to go in another direction.
At this point, I say its all back to the drawing board and there’s no telling what’s going to happen now. At this point, it could go either way, it just depends on who picks it up. Once the studio announces their new guy, then we can judge.

To be clear I’m not saying the WB is out to make a great and faithful adaptation of the character, but I doubt they’re out to make another Catwoman either (since it wasn’t exactly racking in the profits).

sucks that he wont be bringing us WonderWoman but I think he probably was just spreading himself to thin this time around since he has a lot of projects.

But I hope they still get the movie done sometime so we can finally see WW on the big screen and I hope that they dont set it in WWII, that would just suck to much.

And DC should be pushing for this film to be made so they can draw some more female viewers to the comic and to the charecter. Even though Bats and Supes are nice, it gets tireing always seeing the same two DC movies always come out in some incarnation. Let some of the other charecters play on the big screen.

First off...I loved both Batman Begins and Superman Returns. I thought both were smart, respectful adult takes on both Icons. Batman was loved by both critics and fans, and did respectable business. Superman was very well liked by some critics and by some fans ( like me! ) and hated by a great many others. But neither of those movie came close to making Spider Man style numbers which is clearly what the studio wants. The studios are very, very reactive....they see that more "family friendly" slightly campy stuff ( like Fantastic Four ) is where the money is now and want something like that. I actually kinda like FF, it's cheesy fun in it's own way, but it's clear that it's a studio driven movie and not a director driven one like the first two X-Men, Spider-Man, Superman Returns and Batman Begins were. As a matter of fact, after Superman's less than huge Box Office, a complete 360 from the studio is exactly what I expected from the studio concerning Wonder Woman ( and Flash too ) just like they freaked out when Batman Returns made less that the original Batman and the result was the Schumacher era.

Considering how great Buffy was ( at least the first 5 seasons ) how great Angel was, how awesome Firefly and Serenity were, and how Astonishing X-Men has been steller, not to mention the oft forgotten Fray, I only really considered it might not be as good as those, frankly. I never really considered it would be bad in any way. Just possibly not as good as his other stuff. The fact that he struggled with it didn't mean it wasn't good, just that he wanted it be great, not just ok. I don't remember him saying he couldn't iron out a good draft, just that it wasn't "there yet" which isn't the same thing. I think is very likely that we are gonna get a hodge podge script based on many, many different scripts that appeal to what market research shows to be the biggest possible audience. It's the kind of Hollywood filmaking that I can't stand, and which I think we are very likely to get. Just call me cynical. Although I hope I'm wrong.

Same here. The good news is that the Whedon for X-Men 4 or a X-kids spin off rumors can now commence!

Hopefully they don't take the plane out.QUOTE]

If they have her fly in the movie there is no point in having a plane that would be like giving Superman a jet. Wonder Woman is my favorite Comic Book character and I really hope the WB, and the new writers and director treat this project with respect so we can have a great movie.

Wonder Woman could fly and had a jet in Matt Wagner's Trinity. It was done very well.

I think you have to realize something... you're not an all knowing being.

Everything in your post is nothing but a bunch of guesses, assumptions, personal opinion. And, while some of them may end up being true, it will probably be due more to simply random luck than any insight on your part.

Terrible news. It was the presence of Whedon that had me convinced this film won't bomb. :down

...like Serenity didn't bomb?

Until we see that draft we don't know what his treatment was like. Feminist? Who's afraid of that now? Ann Coulter? Tomb Raider saved her man in the first film. She killed the next one because he was a villain. That's not Hollywood but nobody complained.

I don't care about what he did in Buffy, Serenity, etc. This is Wonder Woman we're talking about. Whole different ballgame. He couldn't deliver and that's how it is. Once again the promise of a great superheroine film is burned. But I knew something was wrong when this project dragged on for so long. Something had to give this year and thankfully it happened this early.

All I have to offer are my own guesses, assumptions and personal opinions. It's not like I'm qualified to offer someone else's. Obviously, I'm not in on the studio meetings, but based on Warner brother's track record as a studio ( and the studio mentality in general ) I doubt I'm too far off the mark here. I think as the months roll on, we'll find out what really happened here ( as well as with Goyer's Flash...which would have had both Barry Allen and Wally West. ) *sigh* What could have been...
I think it'll be awhile before we see any non Supes/Bats product coming from Warners, if ever. Which is a total shame.

Good riddance to bad rubbish...

...........ya know, I was about to write something snobby and/or catty, but I'm just gonna take the high ground. Let someone else be the Bi**hy one. I'm tired.

In any case, in regards to the news...HIGHFIVE!

Anyone? Anyone?

HIGHFIVE!

It was a long time in coming.

Not sure if setting this back to WW2 is the right path though. What's wrong with the first issues of Perez's WW revamp job?

I'm relieved. After all the time he was on the project, he never sounded confident, or even excited. There was never anything to talk about. It shouldn't have taken that long to produce something worth talking about in public. In recent comments, he sounded almost frustrated...like he didn't know if it was going to work out. At that point, it's time to step aside and give someone else a shot.

I dont get it. DC comics is OWNED by a movie studio....they should be cranking superhero movies out left and right....

What's the bloody hold up?

:supes: :batman: :ww: :gl:

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think he was un-excited about Wonder Woman. I've read many interviews where he talked alot about how great she was and how great all the things she stands for are. What was frustrating for him I think was coming up with something the suits were gonna get behind. Like i've stated before, all of Joss' stuff have been cult hits with a somewhat quirky sensibility. I think clearly the studio wanted something more mainstream. As someone earlier in this thread liked to point out, I'm not "all knowing" but I'd say it's a damn good guess.
