Joss is out of Wonder Woman

HIGHFIVE!

It was a long time in coming.

Not sure if setting this back to WW2 is the right path though. What's wrong with the first issues of Perez's WW revamp job?

HIGH F'N FIVE!!!:woot:

Finally some real news. I was never comfortable with Whedon's style (Buffy, Serenity) for a Wonder Woman movie. Now we wait for who will take on the job. The news about the WWII-era script sounds interesting. I have no complaints of a period piece. Casting is critical.:hyper:

Wow, someone else who see's casting as critical - how refreshing.

Well, there goes the only possible reason I would ever care about a Wonder Woman movie...

Oh well, this actually is good news. Wonder Woman's a lame character, it's better that Whedon's not wasting his time and talent on her. Give him a Green Lantern film or something (and he can cast his buddy Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan).

Green Lantern with Jack Black, should be good.:woot:

Shame on Joss Whedon he wasted two years trying to do this when he probably knew from the start he wouldn't like it and believe fully it is good. He shoul have been man about it and walked away.

Whoever steps in, I hope they don't go for the WWII take.

Usually, I'm all for period pieces, but having already made Batman Begins and Superman Returns, I'd prefer Wonder Woman (and any other future headliners) to be contemporary.

Sure, Batman and Superman seemed enormously separated stylistically, but at least given the fact that they're both set in (some sort of) present, it's possible that they exist within the same universe.

I think it's important, whether they have any plans for a Justice League movie or not (probably not), for WB to maintain some semblance of a cinematic DC Universe. This is aa built-in advantage they have over the Marvel films.

[old man voice] I can remember back when I was the first one here to post that Joss was hired on to the Wonder Woman project.[/old man voice]

I have nothing but respect for Joss and the class that he's showed us at a very difficult, almost humiliating, time gives him all the more cool points in my book. Where the heck is Silver during this? Where is his press release explaining what went wrong? Does Silver think that he's somehow not responsible for the problems that this production has experienced? I could add some more colourful adjectives but the bottom line is that Joel Silver is showing he's not much of a team player.

I hope Joss all the best in the future and should WB need somebody for either their Doom Patrol or Deadman projects, Joss would be a much better fit for those than he was for Wonder Woman.

Same here. The good news is that the Whedon for X-Men 4 or a X-kids spin off rumors can now commence!

God, I hope so. I'm a much bigger X fan, and we know Whedon can pull the characters off.

Well, from LR´s review of the script they got, I don´t think WW fans will have anything to be sad about...

Goddamn, it sounds awesome.

Admittedly, I'm not that for a WW period piece (I'd much prefer a Cap movie set in WW2), but I'm not picky, and am really open to anything if it's good...and that sounds really good.

Huh.

Originally posted about a period peace being a baaaad idea.

But you know what, after reading that 'WW script thread', it actually sounds fine.

Come to think of it, where else but WW2 germany would WW get to beat the f*** out of DOZENS of people, smash war machines and get away with it without looking completely ridiculous? :D

I have a feeling this movie will be stuck in production hell......forever.

damn, I stay away from this place for one day, and everything starts to fall apart.

anyway, while I really dig Whedon's work and REALLY liked his choice for WW, can't say I'm either surprised or that sad. only thing I can say is: took long enough. seriously, this guy was taking so long with this I'm only surprised this didn't happen before.

I hope we get to see Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman maybe he can do a comic book version of his script. I'd love to see that.

if he wassnt joking then i still hope she get the part .. come on.. that face..
she IS Diana!

Based on this picture, yes. Based on any other picture, oh god no. Seriously. Go to IMDB.

My God Whedon cant catch a break. Angel gets canceled, Firefly gets canceled by Fox. Now he's axed from Wonder Women. I hope he makes another hit soon. He deserves it.

I'm not jumping for joy over this (not being a Whedon hater), but I'm not broken up about it either. I'm not saying that Whedon sucks, but from the very beginning I've had the feeling that he was a "name" pick, someone who became famous for other work that is only somewhat similar to WW (Buffy has a strong female lead), but may not necessarily be the right man for the job. He seemed like someone who was picked to please certain fanboys, and who wanted to stray too far from the source material and go off in his own directions (no "star spangled panties," no flying, original villain).

I would rather wait a couple more years and see the movie done right than to have it rushed out. Batman Begins was worth the wait.

I DON'T want to see some name director get picked only to screw the movie up produce a movie that is not as great as it should be. Ang Lee is a talented director, but he completely dropped the ball on Hulk. The movie was overly talky, and turned off fans with a number of stupid decisions (convulated origin involving mutation and nanites, 15 foot Hulk, Absorbing Dad). Marvel/Universal's big tentpole movie barely made its money back domestically, and the Hulk brand name was severely damaged. They're making a new Hulk movie (basically a restart to the franchise), but it's not going to have the hype and expectations that it would have if the franchise was still fresh.

Superman Returns was a good movie. The reviews were positive (but not great, only around 75% at Rotten Tomatoes), but the box office was very disappointing. Singer did a good job on the X-Men movies. However, I thought that he was WAY too much in love with the Donner movies. Fans wanted a fresh, modern take on Superman. Besides, making a pseudo-sequel to a decades-old movie (while ignoring the last two sequels), set 5 years after Superman went into a self-imposed exile that you made up yourself is NO way to introduce a new generation to Superman. Singer also ignored the positive developments in Lex Luthor's character post-crisis. When you throw in Super-kid (wtf?!), who will be baggage that can't be ignored in later movies, you have a Superman franchise which despite being worthy of the name, falls short of the greatness it should have achieved.

Going back to the original topic, I don't see this as a huge loss. While it's not guaranteed that the new director will be more respectful to WW, at least now there's a chance. A lot of Whedon's decisions worried me, and as I said before, I would rather wait and see the movie done right.

God, I hope so. I'm a much bigger X fan, and we know Whedon can pull the characters off.

Well now Whedon can do what he's always wanted to do make a X-Men with his favorite character Shadow Cat. If they can get Ellen Page back for the role that would be great.

Ellen Page did own...

That said, I'm pretty dissappointed, there are other directors who can do it, but from his comments and pedigree, I was really looking forward to seeing Whedon's Diana... and I do feel if WB came to an unbeatable impasse with Whedon, who is, lets face it, a comic book writer fan of the character who is known for making many types of strong women... if they can't find a place to agree with him, I kinda have to question what kind of movie they are trying to make... because the only direction I've heard was from Joel Silver along the lines of Wonder Woman = Trinity from the Matrix spinoff, which is NOT encouraging. Not like Joss' attempts to humanize the character or get a relevant villain to her origin or seperate her from Superman (something I wish DC comics would do more of).

As many people as may not have seen Firefly and Buffy because the previews/premise didnt' blow them away, but Joss is obviously talented, and I really can't think of anyone who has experience more tailored to being Writer/Director for Wonder Woman's movie.

Cynicism? Maybe, but that's what makes Diana stand out, being stuck in a world of Cynicism, and Joss stated pretty clearly that he understood that...

Also, the main complaint was that Whedon took too long... this DEFINITELY does not fix that problem...

But what about the fact Whedon himself kept saying he was struggling to turn out a good script? It makes me wonder if it was more than simply WB not liking what he was doing; if he simply couldn't do it to begin with.

Whedon wrote the bible

it was then rewritten by a more competent writer

That's hilarious.

Hilariously true.

Haven't seen this much disappointment in "Girl Power" since the Spice Girls broke up.

Honestly guys? I don't think this movie is ever gonna see the light of day. Just my gut feeling...but from what I'm hearing in the rumor mill things sound kinda grim for this project.

I've offically stopped holding my breath for now. :csad:
