Judge Dredd Reboot!! - Part 2

....this I don't doubt for a minute. Just as John Carter blew away dvd/ blu-ray sales charts, so will Dredd.

Maybe, but that'll be too little too late. JC isn't getting a sequel and neither is Dredd.

...maybe. Still, I'll wait for an official statement by DNA Films regarding Dredd getting a sequel or not. I'm just happy we got a good Judge Dredd movie after more than a decade and a half of waiting.

Same here.
And a John Carter sequel is a much more expensive proposition than Dredd 2. It it does well on home release then I'm pretty confident we'll get a followup... or maybe I'm just in denial... :hehe:

The first "Blade" movie made most of its bank in DVD sales. Then got a sequel after.

DVD sales are a lot more likely to get Dredd a sequel than John Carter, though. The upside of a tiny budget is that you can only end up so far in the hole. As it currently stands, Dredd only has to make about 35M in DVD and Blu-Ray profits to break even, whereas John Carter would need 110M. . .

Yeah, but breaking even isn't enough to warrant a sequel. A film actually has to make profit. Even then, it has to be enough that a sequel seems like a wise business move.

It doesn't mean anything there is no such thing obviously. He's probably confused it with film funding . Either way according to mojo dredd has made $21 million ww.
I think he was talking about distribution deals, which were worth around $20+ million if I recall correctly. Still not great but better than zero. Like others, I just hope it does well on DVD Ray.

Can't wait for Dredd on Bluray,I'll be getting it day 1!!

I've been trying to see this movie again for the overdue second time, but once I get time from work, the Regal near me ruins it for me again. Before, they were having more showtimes, now they're onlying having 1-2 showings for the 2D for the rest of the week, and only 1 showing friday, sat, and sunday, before going back to four showings per days starting monday; the 3D: well, theres none.

I was going to take my brother to see it on Friday, going by if the times were the same, but since they aren't, the best bet would be Sunday or the remaining days of the upcoming week. But jeez, what is Regal doing?!

The difference is though that Blade made its budget back at the BO, then the DVD sales were all profit. Dont see that happening with Dredd.

This may be a feeble example, since it's waay back, but the first Highlander also flopped in its theatrical release, but because the home video was a hit, it got a sequel. Could such a thing happen to Dredd?

It depends how bad the "flop" is. I mean, 2004's Punisher wasn't really considered a massive flop, but it limped by and at least made it's budget back in theaters. Then, when it hit DVD, it was a bigger success and thus made enough to warrant a "sequel."

Dredd, on the other hand, made an absolutely dismal amount of cash at the box office, so the DVD/Blu sales would have to be crazy to make up for it. Or, if it becomes a huge cult movie, someone might greenlight a sequel based on potential "cult" profits. But it probably wouldn't get a bigger budget in that case.

Well, just to clarify, Highlander did flopped badly, as it did not make its budget back theatrically, and yet its sequel had a bigger budget.

Maybe, but hopefully Dredd isn't revealed to be an alien and Sean Connery returns for some reason.:oldrazz:

It all really depends on the demand and the producer to make that decision to give Dredd a sequel.

Don't forget, it's not just Dredd sequels, but a TV series too. One or the other, or both.

Ofcourse. I'd be just as happy if we get a solid tv series of Judge Dredd instead of a sequel(having both would be good too;)). Same with Solomon Kane.

I'd prefer another movie (for Dredd and Kane, loved both), but if a TV series is what we had to settle for, i'd be happy with that as well, I just dont know if Urban would return for a TV series.

its already made its budget back from the uk release i believe

It hasnt, it hasnt made its budget back WW let alone the UK. Currently WW its at $21 million, and its budget was $50 million.

I guess we've seen this before; I have with Superman Returns. Either it reaches 50 Mill in a slow time and we get a sequel that way, or someone inside says "don't worry, marketing, story, etc. greenlight it anyway". Same goes for the TV show too.

Either way, Dredd is now a cult film.

PS why can't everyone stopped a) comparing Dredd to Raid, and b) stop calling Dredd a remake?!

I'm hoping for cult status.
