Judge Dredd Reboot!!

A lot of movies are like DIE HARD or other movies but aren't actually good.

Again I just don't want such a limited story for Dredd with a no name villain that's a giant monster prostitute madam thing.

Legend of Chun-Li could be an apt comparison when you look at the results of the first street fighter movie and the first Judge Dredd movie and what the new Judge Dredd movie could be.

I get were you're coming from but Legend of Chun-Li's big failings (amongst others) is that the characters were berely recognisable from the characters they were based on and that the filmakers deviated away from the source material in an attempt to give the movie a certain 'validity' borne out of a more serious tone.

I would suggest that even if this new movie simply just has Dredd wearing his outfit while doing things that stay true to the spirit of the comic strip, then that already put's it a notch higher than The Legend of Chun-Li.

Regarding the main villain, Ma-Ma, any thoughts on the casting? Sigorney Weaver, maybe? She's worked with Pete Travis on "Vantage Point". I could also see Miranda Richardson.

Or could put it more in line with the last 2 PUNISHER movies ;) .

Just saying being archetypical of DIE HARD doesn't mean it will be second greatest action movie ever.

DOOM based on a videogame and starring Karl Urban has a premise similar to ALIENS but that doesn't make it nearly as good as ALIENS.

thy never got street fighter right kinda sad

1st one was bad and cheesy

2nd was bad and tried to be too serious

bison in a buisness suit and blonde hair really?

The 2004 film is very much considered a solid cult-classic that was based on "Punisher:Year One". So, if you want to put it up with this one, I personally don't see it as a negative thing.

I don't consider Thomas Jane's Punisher a cult classic, rogue trooper. People talk about more about Thomas Jane than the movie itself.

^Thats because Tom Jane is so awesome in the role, hell, I wouldnt have minded him as Dredd!

Fair enough, to each his own, but I would say that most movie fans(renters particularly) would put it in the same category as say "Pitch Black", "Army of Darkness", "Blade", and "Darkman" in that it is a very watchable film.

All in all, what I'm saying is that "The Punisher"(2004) is not particularly a good example of a "worst-case scenario"(for a lack of better term on my part) on how "Dredd" might turn out. Punisher, while it did not do "great" at the b.o(poor promotion and Kill Bill 2), it didn't do that bad and it made very solid sales on dvd and became very appreciated among movie fans and because of that another Punisher film was greenlighted.

I wouldn't either. However, I would take Urban over him as Dredd any day for the simple reason of "height". I met Jane in person and I was just a little dissapointed that I was taller than him.:woot:

Now that I think of it, Jane would've made a good Dredd.

Thing though you cant tell stuff like that in a movie really so dont think it would have bothered many people, was he awesome?

Now that I think of it, Jane would've made a good Dredd.

I suggested him and Adam Baldwin as soon as this movie was announced, would have taken both of them in a heartbeat but Urban will be good I think.

I really have no problem with Urban. My only issue is that I think Alex Garland is a hack writer and his script is mediocre.

^Garland tends to be a good writer IMO so his involvement gives me some confidence, its the director i'm not sure of because I havent seen any of his work.

All I know is that I think THE BEACH is Trash. I hated his Halo script, and I didn't care for 28 Days Later either.

Karl Urban has established himself as a good action actor so I can see him playing Dredd. As long as they can stay with the source material and make it as dark as the comics,it will be good. Anything will be better than the Stallone disaster!!!

Lionsgate will be distributing Dredd in the US. Deal was just announced.

Nice, I guess. I kinda' had a feeling this would be for LG's picking. With already a highly-acclaimed hard R-rated comic book movie like "Kick-Ass" under their belt, as well as their release of the upcoming revamp of "Conan" with supposedly all the bloody and relentless action that comes with that property, "Dredd" seems like quite the follow-up.:yay:

....yeah, "The Spirit", "Punisher:War Zone", "Legend of Shun Li", and "Gamer" didn't bode well for LG. However, their recent release of the aforementioned "Kick-Ass", and "The Expendables" were far better recieved. "Conan" seems to look better with each coming production still.
