‘The Flash’ Casts ‘Insurgent’ Star Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West

Wally West is finally coming to Central City.

“The Flash” has cast “Insurgent” actor Keiynan Lonsdale in the role, it was announced Wednesday. The actor will be a series regular addition to the second season cast of the CW superhero drama.

Lonsdale will make his first appearance in the winter, playing the iconic character from the DC comic book universe who became the speedster known as Kid Flash. In the comics, Wally West is related to Iris West, played by Candice Patton on the show.

When Lonsdale’s Wally West finally makes his long-teased appearance, he will hardly be the only superspeedster in Central City.

Grant Gustin stars as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, with Tom Cavanagh’s Reverse-Flash also a series regular, and Teddy Sears’ Jay Garrick, the original Flash from the comics, also due to make an appearance in Season 2.

“Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero,” said “The Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

Lonsdale plays Uriah in the “Divergent” series, making his US film debut in sequel “Insurgent” opposite Shailene Woodley. He will next be seen in Disney’s Coast Guard drama “The Finest Hours.” He is represented by Silver Lining Entertainment, ICM, Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams, and Persona PR.

Perfect casting. I'm very excited for this. My favorite speedster is finally here. I hope they let him keep his Aussie accent. Just say he grew up there or something. No sibling mentioned for Iris. I wonder if they'll keep the nephew angle or just make them cousins. I can't wait for West family interaction. Love Joe, love Iris and I already love Wally.

I've given Warner Bumbles a lot of heat for wasting most of the DC library over the last 10-12 years. They have been pitifully late with many characters and haphazard with others.

However, I must give credit where it's due. WBTV has treated the Flash mythos with reverence, as is evidenced by the Flash Dynasty coming to fruition in Season 2 of this superb TV series. Hat tip to everyone involved in the conception of this.

I'm curious to see what his connection to Iris and Joe are. I mean in the comics he's Iris's nephew. But Iris is much younger on the show and we've gotten ZERO hints that she has any biological siblings. So maybe he'll just be Joe's nephew or something?

I think Wally will be Iris's brother. They were casting an African-American actress in her 40s to play a troubled friend of Joe’s named Olivia. She could be Wally's mom. Maybe Joe had an affair and Olivia didn't tell him about the kid because I don't see Joe abandoning a child. I also remember the writers saying S1 was more about the Allen family and the focus will be on the West in S2. They already have Garrick coming from alternate place. Wally coming from alternate reality or the future doesn't really bring on drama.

They are hush hush on what actually happened to Iris's mother and between her parents. Do we even have confirmation her mother died. I know it was implied between conversation Wells and Joe had but did the writers confirm it.

So yeah, I'm going with a newly discovered brother. Is a TV show, a TV show on CW. Some soap opera drama is unavoidable.
