Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

I think the movie demonstrated that Kong doesn't attack anything or anyone unless provoked.

That's the exact reason. They even have a character to explain that directly. Kong saw that they weren't a threat and didn't have ill intentions so he didn't see a need to do anything to them. To me, it was a perfect touch because it shows Kong's intelligence and makes him less of a mindless monster. Actually, I'd say this entire movie does a great deal to drive that home & Kong ends up coming off as a fully realized character & not just a CGI creation.

A nice contrast to Godzilla's "I don't really give a **** about you humans, I'm just here to fight" mentality.

That's pretty much Godzilla's character in nearly everything, though. He doesn't care about humanity and what he destroys as long as he gets the job done.

MN number ¥7-8M is not bad, slightly behind JW ¥8.3M.JW corss¥1.4bn.Even Dollar is stronger than 2015.Kong will easily hit $100M in China.550M WW possible

Somebody from the China at the Box Office thread on BOT just posted this. Looks like it's already doing really well in China.

I know, and I'm not knocking that, just saying I'm glad they actually did a great job in showing they are two totally different beasts.

Hhhhmmm why did he turn up in the first place then, just to stop the fight? I did like the scenes in this movie which showed how intelligent Kong was, [BLACKOUT]like him using the chains and boat propeller as a weapon[/BLACKOUT] but I thought they could have used more of those scenes personally.

Cool, hope this does well as I would like to see a sequel after the vs movie.

The way the film explains it and the way it all plays out, both Godzilla and the MUTOs were apex predators, so Godzilla was defending his position. Not to mention based on what was seen in the caves, Godzilla already had a history with them considering they managed to kill one belonging to his species.

Basically we are ants to Godzilla. If I'm fighting a dude and there are ants on the concrete, some might get squished. I don't hate the ants per se, but they're in the way.

Yeah as far as I remember it's always been this way. He won't actively harm humans, but if they get in the way tough luck.

Yep. The only time he ever pays direct attention to a human is Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character. And that was only because the latter's character was near where he fell.

About Godzilla vs King Kong:
I hope they do the Kong's capture part in that movie. They capture him and then he dies after he defeats Godzilla(of course Godzilla doesn't really die) or the other monster they both fight together. Then they could do The Son of Kong remake as a sequel to Kong: Skull Island.

Except there's no indication given that Kong even has an offspring, so it wouldn't make any sense unless he's asexual like Zilla '98.

There wasn't in the original 1933 version either so it isn't a problem. They just made a sequel. Also how could the human character know for sure? His son could be somewhere in the island.

Son Of Kong isn't exactly regarded as a 'good' sequel though. Kong being the last of his kind has always been a staple of the character. It's one of the reasons why he's sympathetic to the audience.

Plus, I don't think many fans would be happy if they killed Kong in GvK and immediately replaced him with a younger one for no logical reason.

Maybe but I think the story could be better if he died. Where does Kong go after the movie? I don't think he should be able to return to Skull Island whenever he wants.

:woot:

I don't think the idea would suffice. And again, there's nothing to indicate they'll kill Kong. We all know the fight is going to be more along the lines of a draw before an inevitable team up. There wouldn't be any sense in killing off Kong, especially this early into the MonsterVerse.

Yeah I don't the point or need to kill Kong in this monster verse. Keep him alive and come up with a way for him go back to the island.

Exactly. At the end of the day, I'd love to see him back on Skull Island with new threats to tackle. After all, he does technically look after the natives there.

Was better than i expected. The characters could have been better developed, but for what many called just a big-budgeted b-movie, it surprised me more than i though it would. Scenes like that failed sacrifice gave the film an interesting personality.

Yep definitely. The natives will die without him and who knows what else is under the ground there?

I did really like that moment, showed that the skull crawler was just as smart as Kong and more than a match for him.

Right. It was basically a moment where a classic trope was taken and turned on its head. We always say "why didn't the monster see that one coming?" This time it did. Add to the fact that another of them basically fell for something similar in the Skull Pit, so having the Big One counteract was necessary to show the difference.

Just saw it.

Thought it was pretty good as well. Pacing was a bit off and was bored a little. Also there were too many characters I felt. But most of them were ok. What's with the MonsterVerse and boring leads though?

Anyway I liked it. Action did not disappoint

Eh. Thought Tom Hiddleston was miles better than Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

I thought pretty much all of the actors in Kong turned in a better performance than Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I don't even think he's a bad actor, he just looked so bored during Godzilla.
