Yeah, and I think it works best that way, especially for the time being. His mood swings really help to illustrate his character, and Kyle MacLachlan really sells it well.

For now, the transformation behind a personality trait, is fine, because, like you said, Kyle Maclachlan can stretch his range a bit, but ultimately we did to see a proper hulk-sized monster come out of this. We've been short changed too many time in comic book shows on getting to see something like that, and I really hope they don't do it again. The visual alone of him hulking out into Mr Hyde would be a huge ratings draw for the show and could turn the tide a bit.

It's not like plenty of SyFy shows haven't been able to create massive trolls, and other creatures on a much smaller budget than Marvel/Disney has for AOS. I doubt the CGI would even be that poor either, and there's also the option to just use giant prosthetics and great camera work to create the massive effect.

Let's just hope they don't make us settle for a Nolan type realistic approach in a show that Blizzard, Inhumans, Absorbing Man, Asgardians, and many other fantasy elements.

I like the schitzo Doc. Very nice one moment then murderous rage the next. Kyle does it well.

We already have the hulk, and to be honest if you know a schitz, the quick switch is more scary. Always keeps you on your edge.

Meh, characters like that are a dime a dozen on TV. Hell Harvey Dent on Gotham is basically the same character, only less brutal.

you need to save something for the second part of season 2 unless you're desperate to see a lot of Windom Earls or Duchovny in drag again.

Then they shouldn't have pushed it as hard as they did, I think. It just comes off as drawing it all out to pad the season with.

Dude has super strength when angry. I'm not convinced they ever intend more of a transformation than that.

Kicking someone's butt doesn't equal superstrength. I don't see how that works. Plus, if they never intended to use his other half then why use the character at all? They could just as easily have made up a new one for the show.

I was fine with what they've done so far as Machlachlan has been fun to watch. I hope he is still prominent in the back half. If he transforms fine if he doesn't fine as well.

I'm not completely certain that a physical transformation has been hinted at (it probably has been, but "monster" could be taken less literally). Either way, KM's acting has been a true pleasure to watch.

That's my whole point with this. I'm tired of these half baked attempts when doing a variation of Jekyll and Hyde on tv and in movies. Lately, all producers ever do is make it a "subtle" and internal transformation, instead of going all-in and showing the beast.

If they never show the monster in the show in physical form, then just kill him off now. His acting is great, but I have no interest in seeing a Nolan-ized version of the character. He's compelling and would be a great anti-hulk for the shows or movies, so do him justice.

It was hinted in the episode that he would have been able to withstand bullets, should one have been fired on him, like he said that he would tear Whitehall and his men apart, if it wasen't for his daughter, and that he seemed unafraid when Whitehall pointed a gun at him. Perhaps a gunshot would have triggered the transformation or something.

That's what I recalled him doing to the Hydra guy Ward was distracting. He also threw Coulson pretty far (he didn't pick him up by the neck, though). I'll have to rewatch to doublecheck, though.

The "transformation" being mostly psychological, combined with increased strength, would be find. The comics version was REALLY on the nose with the whole "Mr. Hyde" thing. "Oh he's called Mr. Hyde, and he turns into a hideous monster. Get it get it, just like the book, get it, oh aren't we clever."

He named himself Hyde as he was a fan of the story and it influenced his research. I doubt we'd hear it more than once if at all in the MCU anyway. I hate stupid pun names in comics as much as anyone but this isn't one.

Or they could make it completely uninteresting and have him just a human with rage issues, Christ knows we don't have enough grounded realism these days #thanksnolan

Regardless, I still think the point is moot. I doubt they introduced Zabo and threw in numerous mentions of "monsters" killing Hydra and Shield agents in China if they only intended for him to be some schlub with anger management problems.

I don't have a doubt in my mind that they'll go through with a Hyde transformation.But it's gonna take the budget of three episodes just for one decent "Hyde-Out",so I'm guessing we'll only get one during whatever "sweeps week" episode it is this season.

I don't think it would take that much. Super strength seems to be the one trait it seems like they can show. They showed it several episodes last season with the Centipede super soldiers. In addition, prosthetics aren't too difficult for them. I really don't think it's a budget issue.
