Les Miserables has won 21 awards, 8 of them are for Hathaway. That is more than one third...
I must say, I waited the casting of Fantine most, and when Hathaway was announced I was severely disappointed. I don't really know much about actors and actresses, "Hathaway", I thought, was a movie star such like Lindsay Lohan ... never-ever I would have dreamed that she might become the best part of the film, which is what Fantine should be (maybe I have that impression because Ruthie Henshall was the best of 10th anniversary concert).
But the thing I like about this cast is not just the talent, but they are so sympathetic. Anne Hathaway might be the only actress in Hollywood decent enough to play Fantine, and it is really important to me. Someone at the imdb suggested that Britney Spears should have played Fantine, which is of course absurd on every level, but just imagine her being all so "tragical" about selling sex while all her songs are about how much she wants to have group sex on the floor.
That is also the reason why I rejoiced when Samantha was announced, she just seems to be the nicest person ever ... Lea Michele would have handled the role, but I would have had hard times watching someone from Glee's moral universe playing Eponine. Yucki. It is disgrace they have done Les Mis songs in their show.
