The suggestion was obvious.Wow, I didn't say you were. But thanks for reading my post.![]()
Fellows, what's your opinion on the hype that surrounds Heath's Joker--will it lead to mass disappointments, do you think? Not necessarily a bad performance. I agree with Keyser about Caine forgetting his lines. Also, I don't think an actor as well-respected as Caine would spout praise to appease a few studio executives. At the beginning where I mentioned disappointments, I was thinking more in terms of the amount of time Joker will get. With Joker, Harvey Dent, Maroni and Gamble, the sons of the batman, and of course Batman himself, there's a lot going on in a limited amount of screen time.
There wasn't a lot of screen time left for Jonathon Craine though, too. Yet Cillian Murphy did a lot with the role and made his performance really stand out. I feel that The Joker, whose performance will be far larger as is, will steal every scene he is in and give us the impression he is in more of the film than he man be in reality.
One thing I think is interesting to think about is the impact Batman Begins had on recent Pop Culturally Relevant movies.
Casino Royale
Iron Man
Watchmen
Video Games like Infamous have also mentioned Batman Begins being a big inspiration.
Batman Begins is probably one of the most Pop Culturally important films in immediate history.
Hrmmm, now you HAVE to tell me how Begins impacted Iron Man and Watchmen - I've REALLY been out of the loop here.![]()
Batman Begins proved that Superhero Movies could live up to the talent cast in them. Jon Favreu said that after Nolan's cast in Batman Begins - it was far easier to get actors like Downey, Bridges, etc. to make a real, serious Superhero movie.
The success of Batman Begins, a darker Superhero movie, helped oil the wheels of Watchmen's production.
Eh, I always felt that title was deserved by X-Men and Spider-Man first. BB seems to be getting most of that attention, because of the number of veterans they managed to get.Batman Begins proved that Superhero Movies could live up to the talent cast in them.
I didn't know Jon had said that, but I like the sentiment. And Iron Man does look like it's going to be quite a ride. Of course it seems there's like a dozen movies I'm looking forward to this summer, but the only one that really matters to me is TDK.
That does stand to reason - especially as it's another DC property. I do wish Warner's wasn't afraid to do some other DC titles, too...

None of their rep, but then again they are vets. Caine and Freeman weren't particularly amazing, they played themselves. The most outstanding performances out of these comic book movies came from the newcomers.I am just going by what Jon was sayingt:
The cast of Spider-Man had no one on the level of Michael Caine, or Morgan Freeman.

Keyser, where do you think Nolan should head in BB3?
I know others have talked about writing out the Joker, recasting the Joker etc.
Your views on the Joker in a third Bat Film?
Your views on other villains that should be brought in?
How perfect is Paul Bettany as The Riddler?
Justice League: Keyser's thoughts?
i completely agree.
batman begins made a lot of these other superhero film makers...and even film makers of big continuous franchises like bond stand up and take notice.
one of these things was definitely casting. nolan knew that first and foremost that he needed a great cast to make his batman franchise a success. look at the similarities of the casting of iron man and hulk compared to batman begins. ed norton, robert downey jr, jeff bridges and tim roth are all amazing actors.
secondly, a lot of these films were becoming to "spot fest" orientated. if you don't know what i mean by "spot fest"....i mean explosion followed by explosion followed by shooting followed by a bigger explosion, with a load of fancy gadgets and without a moving/deep story. i truly believe that when the bond guys saw batman begins...they thought to themselves "**** the brosnan era....lets make something dark" and casino royale was born. some of these movies got too kiddy friendly. nolan once said something along the lines of "just because a story is deep and has meaning, it doesn't mean that the kids don't understand and enjoy it. i think kids understand things a lot quicker than most adults". i couldn't agree more.
) but rather about respecting the material and treating it seriously.

thats the big difference imo...
Definitely - because what made Batman Begins and Casino Royale great was that they returned their respective characters to their roots, to their true selves.

i agree completely. sometimes by stripping a character of all the baggage they have aquired over the years you can see what was so great about them in the first place.
much like what was done to scarecrow in begins and much like what is being done to the joker in dark knight.

Not really. What both films did was make their characters relevant to the here and now. They are the "updated" versions.
