Let's Discuss Dan Slott's New Book

I didn't know who Dan Slott was until I read this article and looked him up online.

Go figure.

Go home.

yeah, great guys, this'll really endear him to Slott

If he hadn't heard of him by now, on these boards where his name is as ubiquitous as Joe Quesada and bendis bashing, he was lost from the start. And I'm 99% sure ive seen Kotagg talk about She-Hulk before.

Justice!? Awesome. :D

Now I'm picking it up alright.

Hmm...I've never read She-Hulk before.

But you know what, you're right Darth - now that I think about it, I remember someone mentioning a Thing ongoing and I mentioned I never read it. If it's Slott that wrote that (which I think someone in this thread said) then I have heard of him before. I've just never read him.

See, you filthy liar.:cmad: No but seriously, Dan Slott is gold, you should pick up some of his stuff.

It will be interesting to see Slott bring in some old timers that we haven't seen in a while.

Examples being Cardiac and Justic. I would love it.:woot:

Actually, my local shop is having a 50% off all back-issue comics today. After I get off work in a few hours I'm heading over to grab the Ultimates from the beginning - I'll see if I can snatch up something by Slott as well.

Are we fans of justice? All I remember of his is his breif stint as an avenger where of course he acted like a total rookie, never got into New Warriors though.

See if they've got Spider-Man/Human Torch - it was a 5 issue miniseries, every issue was a stand alone flashback tale about Spidey and Torch's friendship through the years, very retro, very fun, although not very "cutting edge" like Ultimates or anything, I'm not sure where your tastes lie.

GLA - Great Lakes Avengers - was another 4 issue mini by him and it was hysterical the whole way through

Try and pick up the "Thing" issues. The short run was just gold.

:down to the people who didn't buy it. :cmad:

"Brief stint"? He was part of the Avengers for quite a while, and totally rocked that book. Sure, he was a rookie in the beginning, but around the time of Ultron he really stepped up and started being really really cool. He's definitely one of my favorite Avengers.

We also can't forget his time with the New Warriors, where he went from little punk to unheralded badass. His character arc with his father is still one of the best in the history of Marvel Comics, especially for the 90s, when flash usually surpassed substance in the mainstream. Justice's whole development over the series however, was golden.

Justice is definitely one of my fave heroes.

honestly? The first three issue arc I didn't think was that great, I can understand how it didn't pull more people in. Guest stars the Constrictor and Nighthawk, up against.. Arcade? And stretched out over three issues? Not exactly a thrilling line up

The Hercules, Spider-Man and last issues were great - but we didn't get to see Divito draw them (no offense to Dwyer, but Divito is alot better)

can you blame people? The thing book didn't last in the silver-age, what were the chances it would of attracted many readers in todays generation:huh: I liked the book, but i couldn't see myself buying it ever month.

I picked up the Thing's final issue, but I wasn't interested in the other issues. They looked fun I guess, but I didn't have the funds. She-Hulk is just meh for me. I tried it and it wasn't my kind of book. Everything else I've read by Slott I've loved, but these two titles just haven't grabbed me.

Ah, the nineties were a very dry time for me and comics, especially the avengers at the time. I hardly remember his tenure on the avengers, except hawkeye left the team for the thunderbolts to let him and firestar take his place right?

I'll check out some of the New Warriors, I have a few issues where he makes an appearance but nothing major. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check him out.

Yeah, that's how he got on the team, basically. As for New Warriors, it was a great title for its first 50 issues but pretty much jumped the shark afterwards. There were still some good stories, but the first 50 are easily the better.

Justice is unique for being having accidentally killed his father, owning up to it, going to jail and coming out an even better man than he already was. He's the boyscout that even went as far as defending the rights of villains in prison, and being friends with the guards, thereby getting all of them to like him. His character is easily likeable, although it may be a little too goody-two-shoes for some.

Bronze Age, not Silver. He was the star of Marvel Two-in-One from 1973-1983 which ran for 100 issues, than he had his own seriews from 83-86 which ran for another 36 issues

Considering the Silver Age started with the first appearance of Barry Allen in 1956 and ran up till about 86 or so, that'd make that Silver Age, not Bronze Age.

EDIT: It depends on what you believe to be the end of the Silver Age, actually. The Death of Gwen Stacy or Crisis on Infinite Earths/Watchmen.

Interesting, giving a supporting character like Thing a solo is never a good move IMO.

The Busiek/Perez era Avengers were the golden years, when they relaunched the book after Heroes Reborn, from 1997-2000/01 or so. The book was just lots of fun and had lots of quality to it

I wouldn't really call Justice's storyline with his father "one of the best in the history of Marvel Comics" though

I wouldn't say he is supporting. All four of the FF were main players in that book.

If it was advertised as much as some of the other books out there a solo Thing series would do fine I think.
