Anyone know how weed affects someone with bi-polar?

My brother is a pot head through and through. He smokes that oil stuff likely every weekend and I don't know the specifics of the oil, but I hear it can be some pretty heavy stuff. I have no problem with weed (except when he smokes it in the house because I hate the smell), I'm just curious if the chemicals affect his mental condition.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if his bi-polar becomes worse when he smokes or when he doesn't.

Stupid question: But is weed legal in DC. Or are they still debating it/going through legislation

From wiki:

While some reports indicate that cannabis can lessen the severity of mania and depression symptoms, others indicate cannabis can trigger mania and has been noted to have "a detrimental and potentially causative role in the development of psychosis." [59][60] There remains credible reason to doubt the causative role however: it has been found that when psychosis preceding cannabis use is controlled for later psychosis becomes statistically insignificant.[61] This may be attributable to the role of CBD as an antipsychotic.[62][63][64][65]

However, a recent study noted neurocognitive functioning improved in bipolar patients who used cannabis.[66] The study added that further research was needed. Further research was performed reinforcing this finding for Bipolar Disorder.[67]

Not a stupid question.

It's still up in the air.

Congress is trying to stop it and local DC politicians are trying to say congress doesn't have the right to stop it.

Cannabis oil is a lot stronger than weed/skunk.

Cool thanks.

Any estimation on how long it might take to go through? I know it's hard to tell but IM just wondering what is the next big debate or whatever about it

I have no clue to be honest.

But DC residents are not going down without a fight.

Hopefully if they make enough noise congress will buckle and let the legislation go through.

One of the best movies i've watched stoned was Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It's funny anyway but when me and the missus watched it high we could barely breathe from laughing so much.

I like watching films like Apocalypse Now or Blade Runner stoned too.

To be fair, most movies are enjoyable (or more enjoyable) to watch baked.

Under The Skin
Speedracer- I'm serious, it feels like a goddamn masterpiece.
Memento

Y'all should check out the old silent films, Beautiful and haunting.

Ironically, none of the cheech n chong flicks do anything for me under the influence.

I find that watching films high makes it a very entertaining and immersive experience, but my own impression of every aspect of the film gets amped up to the Nth degree so that fairly judging quality, subjectively for myself, gets muddy so I feel I have to see something again sober to really make a judgement. So, like, even a halfway decent crime drama with an atmospheric tone gets a FINCHER's SE7EN type reaction out of me, but when I go back and watch it clear headed it has a far less impact. When it comes to comedy I have never found I laugh more than I normally would when high. Chances are, if I find it really funny high, I'll find it really funny sober and vice versa.

I think it's because you notice alot more layers and subtext when high.

How much of that subtext was intended by the director and how much is personal to you is anyone's guess.

Obama: "unlike tobacco or drunk driving, which we treat as a public health problem, we treat [cannabis] exclusively as a criminal problem. I think that it's been counter productive, and devastating in a lot of minority communities" [slightly paraphrased]

New York Senator Introduces Bill to Legalize Recreational Cannabis

"Senator Liz Krueger, true to her word, submitted the Marihuana Regulation and Taxation Act for consideration by the 2015 legislature, which would legalize the growing, use, and possession of cannabis by all individuals over the age of 18 "

Mexican Cartels Switching from Cannabis to Heroin Because of US Legalisation

America’s ongoing legalization efforts across the country have negatively impacted Mexican cartels’ ability to sell their schwag on American soil.

Thanks to states like Colorado and Washington–along with medical marijuana pillars like California–America has enough homegrown weed that no one wants what Mexico sold for decades. Thus, Mexican farmers once valuable cash crop of cannabis has become nearly extinct, as the demand for the stuff no longer exists.

In response, Mexican cartels have reportedly shifted their primary focus to distributing harder drugs like heroin and meth. Furthermore, Mexican farmers have begun to burn their marijuana fields to make way for poppy fields.

Mexican Cartels Switching from Cannabis to Heroin Because of US Legalisation

Now there's a conundrum. How will the anti crowd spin this one? :hehe:

edit: besides the obvious "It's all the damn potheads fault our streets are flooded with heroin!"

Yeah, it's an unfortunate, but IMO necessary, step to getting out of the clusterf*** that prohibition put us in.

The best part is obviously Cartels are getting hit hard by Pot legalisation.
Upping Heroin & Meth production, I don't know if that's going to do much for them since, as far as I know, Pot brought in their biggest revenue. And with so many people now buying Pot from legal sources the exposure to Heroin/Meth pushing dealers has probably declined, so even if they "flood" the US with more Heroin....

I have most pity for the Mexican farmers. Most of those guys are probably just regular folk trying to put food on the table. It's being under the rule/terror of violent Cartels that has them growing this stuff.

Same deal in the middle east. Poor farmers trying to provide for their family, regular crops (wheat, corn, etc) don't make much money, but Poppy's (Heroin) make good money. So they borrow seeds from Drug Cartels with the promise to repay, but the Law Enforcement come in and destroy the crops. Now the farmers are in big dept to dangerous people that they can't pay back, so the Cartels take their children, wives and often the farmers themselves and sell them into slavery. The reach of nonsensical Western drug policies has far reaching and vicious effects.

Actually, here's a documentary detailing exactly that, "Opium Brides":

German Scientists Have Confirmed an Amazing Link between Cannabis and Cancer Suppression

What they found was that both tetrahydrocannabinol (THC or known as Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol) and cannabidiol, also an active substance and originating from cannabis, contribute to the destruction of tumor cells by stimulating the formation of a specific protein, ICAM-1. By acting on the surface of the cells attacked by cancer, the proteins link themselves to the immune system’s own defensive cells, making the cancerous cells burst. The active ingredients, thus, prevent cancerous cells from forming blood vessels which allow the cancer to take root and grow.

But of course they "are far from putting our discoveries into practice on a clinical level." :whatever:
