Some are saying his talent would be wasted on Lex and were hoping he would be the new Joker. Which I could actually see, but Lex is just as nuanced a role as that one. Luthor is honestly just as crazy obsessive as Joker is deep down.
What idiot is saying that?

I'd argue that Luthor is actually the meatier role.
Yes, but Bats fans want Joker back, so I understand them wanting JP. He's probably the only person they can even think of to replace Ledger.

I think Joaquin would surprise a lot of people if he accepts the role playing Lex. He has like an intimidating pressence where he can be cold-hearted, but intelligent at the same time. He'd be more..intriguing.

Other sites I've been to that you already know the names of.

No more real-estate plot line .:o

Frankly I don't give a flying **** what Batman fans want. I want the first ever good big screen version of Luthor.

I'd be very excited to see an established actor bring an iconic Lex to the screen. I'd like to see them let JP go wild with it...if he says yes that is.

Ditto. It's time for a badass Superman villain to hit the screen and he had better have some meaty scenes with Superman.

Some Batman fans won't be happy unless Superman is curbstomped by the Caped Crusader :whatever:

So bring on plausible mastermind Luthor! :awesome:

Joaquin Phoenix is an incredible actor and any contribution from him in this film would be a dream come true.

God, with in possibly in the movie and Chris helping out with the script: this could be a GREAT film. :hrt:

I think it's fair to say that we're not getting the same real estate-swindling-comical performance that we've seen in the past.

Even as a kid I found his Lex to be amusing. I never saw him as a real threat. I want to see a Lex that is a viable threat via his intelligence, resources, etc. I also want him to be a little scary...but in a good way...lol...which is why I can applaud this direction.

Good. That version of Lex needs to die a thousand deaths in a dark pit of torture. Be gone with it. On the fire with it!:cmad:

Let us see the real Lex Luthor, Superman's greatest foe, and people can stop saying Lex is a corny, non-threatening villain.

It's basically confirmed that he'll be the billionaire Machiavellian version from the comics.

The Lexcorp farming truck and the Lexcorp oil tanker would suggest that he is already veeeeeery wealthy in the MoS universe.

Kevin Spacey and Gene Hackman have given great performances but I hate silly Lex and even talented actors such as them couldn't make me like their versions of Lex Luthor. And yes I know Spacey's version was darker but he was still playing a version of Hackman-Lex. That was fine for the 70's but it doesn't work now.

Got it...but I added that other part for a reason, but I think we are on the same page. :cwink:

Gene Hackman is the only person who punched me in the face...And got away with it.

I was initially the black guy in The Royal Tenenbaums. Ben Stiller does not like being kicked in the balls.

Agree that Hackman and Spacey played entirely different iterations of the character.

Their Lex's were motivated only by greed. They wanted money and power.

The Lex in the comics already has unlimited money and unlimited power. His motivations are much more centered around Superman and his obsession, jealousy, hatred of him.
