BvS Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 1

The good thing about Mark Strong is that he's a great actor, haha. :oldrazz:

No, but seriously, it's an asset that he's not WELL-known to the public, so if he starts out by playing an adequately charming and friendly Lex, not many in the GA will figure him out at first, especially if they give him hair in the beginning.
Again, depending on how he's written. Strong is more than capable of fooling the audience with his diversity in acting and appearance.

Charming and "friendly" Lex:

And later on, the not so charming (but rather psychotic) Lex:

Yeah, give Strong the opportunity to play his final ultimate villain. :woot:

while people keep saying oh it is a lazy choice but for me if your good for the part your good for the part

you know who else was a lazy choice

He's not lazy. He's paralyzed :p

Strong is an obvious pick, but he's extremely suited for the role and if he brings us a great Lex, who cares?

I don't care about left field choices that excite me...I care about the performance in hand from the actor.

For some reason, I don't like the idea of Strong for Lex.

I wouldnt mind that either. Strong is just so damn perfect imo. His voice alone could smoothtalk me into voting for him.

Because you want a left field choice that excites you ;)
You're kinda right :woot:. But it's more to do with what Snyder said about Lex casting. That he wants a huge actor that general audiences know and one who is good looking. Mark Strong is not that popular or good-looking to the people.

You always know more than me :p

Now let's think on it :hmm

Cranston is a perfect choice, I hope the rumor is true.

The more I try to not like Cranston as Luthor, or the fact that yet again we get Lex Luthor in a Superman film.....the more I'm seeming to like it. He plays such a fantastic manipulative character in BB, someone who makes it seems like he's your best friend but will kill you the second he feels itll better himself.

He can play a really well received genuine nice guy (to the public) but have a really dark and sinister side to him behind closed doors. Which I think is what we are looking for in our new Lex. Someone who can win the hearts of the public with his good nature, then loosen his tie and beat someone to death in a back alley.

Cranston has amazing range as an actor and I think he could really make this character shine.

Just realized Snyder did a Lex type character in Watchmen, Ozymandias. A great one at that. I think we're in good hands. :)

Cranston with hair and clean shaven looks nothing like Walter White, so I do feel he's a chameleon like that.

Gordon isn't in this film as far as we know. All the MOS characters have been included in the sequel. Hard to put Batman support characters in it too.

Well with the inclusion of Gotham in the movie, it's now a possibility Gordon will make a cameo. And El did hint Cranston was Gordon before removing his tweet...

My personal pick now is still Joaquin Phoenix, but I'd definitely be in support of Mark Strong or Bryan Cranston. OT, but I thought Joaquin's performance in The Master was the best out of any actor in any film last year.

That's not necessarily true. Ever since Killer Joe, Mud and Lincoln Lawyer came out (not in that order, obviously), people have been fairly optimistic and excited about him and his career. Interstellar just sweetened the deal.
This.
After what felt like decades of slumming in terrible films and horrifically bad romantic "comedies" he's taken charge of his career and explored interesting supporting and character parts. He's revealing depths as an actor that no one really knew he had.

There WAS a minor push to get him Oscar nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Magic Mike. Not even lying.
Hence Oscar Isaac. He's at almost the same place shannon was when he was cast.
I'd love to see him in some comic book movie. Maybe not as Lex though. But SOMETHING. He's just one big, juicy role away from hitting it big time.

Lazy casting... perfect casting... Whatever.
Jason Isaacs as Lex.
BOOM!
I've long championed him as a great choice for Luthor. I mean, sure, he's "too old," but he's got that dangerous, sexy, charming, deliciously evil thing down that Luthor requires.

Joaquin Phoenix is intriguing me. But I also think he could be a great Riddler or Black Mask.

Phoenix for Sionis? It seems like it could be a smaller character with not much to do as an actor though. Feels like a more limited Bane. Only being able to use the voice to convey emotion. At least Tom Hardy can show stuff through his eyes and body plus his voice. Black Mask would probably be a more obscure, one-dimensional villain who's body is covered up in a suit. Doesn't exactly sound appealing for a big name actor who's only role is to sound menacing when he speaks. Of course the mask could come off too. But this is why I say don't include the character or cast Titus Welliver for Roman Sionis, since he's in every Affleck film so far.

Joaquin would make an interesting Riddler, maybe more than Luthor.

Ma Kent, Lois, Perry, some daily planet employees... maybe General Swanwick too. Then you add Gordon, Alfred, and maybe Bullock. I honestly don't see what's so hard about putting those characters in.

This guy would be a great choice...

...if only he hadn't played Obidah Stane!!!
