BvS Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 3

This is the Lex thread, remember.

So is the general consensus that that Callum whoever guy from 300: Rise of an Empire is being looked at for Luthor?

people think he's being looked at for Metallo

Gotcha. A more seasoned actor is needed for Lex. Metallo would be nice, rather see him in the movie than Doomsday IMO

Agreed. I think it'd be a mistake to cast an unknown as Lex. He works for Metallo or Brainiac though

If Mulvey gets in it won't be as Lex. He's doesn't have the profile and has trouble with a lead-actor-standard American accent (is Kiwi/Australian).

He's played lots of soldier and tough guy types; before 300 he's the SHEILD guy who's says "is he wearing a parachute?" in the Winter Soldier trailer and the Seal who shoots Osama in Zero Dark Thirty. On Australian TV he played a prominent gangster then a bikie then a cop. I also knew the guy from growing up and if he gets a role in this it will be beyond insane, it's surreal just seeing pics of him up on this board.

Lex Luthor II from the 1990 was from Australia (well he was actually a clone)

The look and accent might work

I loved the Luthor II look and if Lex starts out that way, I'd be happy.

I wouldn't mind that look either, I just meant the Australian clone :hehe:

It reminds me a bit of Richard Branson. ..which is apparently an influence or something.

Agreed I'd prefer an actor with acting ability for Lex.

And how are you rating his acting abilty exactly?
Vin Diesel has quite a few films to his resume now,
Do you think he will ever win an Oscar?
How about Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Kevin Spacey was cast as Lex .
His name might have got people in the seats ,
It didnt keep them there .
Do you really think people went to see Sam Raimi's first Spiderman flick because Willem Dafoe was cast in the role of The Green Goblin ?
And what about Andrew Garfield?
He was hardly an A lister when he was cast as Peter Parker.
If they can cast a virtual unknown as Spider -Man,
then they can certainly do the same with Lex Luthor .

I feel like WBs wants a bigger named actor, one with an Oscar pedigree to play Lex. Callan would be better served as Metallo IMO.

Tom Hanks name isn't going away on this project either. Though I can't see him in a villain role.

So basically he has a lot of experience in roles that would make him a good pick for Metallo?

Someone with screen presence I guess. Kevin Spacey had I hopes for him when he was cast in SR.

Doomsday would be the perfect way to set up a jl film. They could spend the first half of b vs s introducing batman, daily planet clark, and lex.
The 2nd half could introduce doomsday. Supes takes him on but is losing. Batman gets involved and helps superman. Toward the end ww is introduced after bats seeks her out, and the film ends with bats seeking out other heroes, ie, flash, gl, etc, While ww and supes are dealing with doomsday and saving civilians.

Id rather it just be a bats and supes film but if they just have to go this route then something like the above is what id wish to see.

So according to them, Mulvey was considered for Lex, but they are now thinking of using him as Metallo. I think that's a good fit. But I also like that, with Lex, they aren't apparently being so closed-minded that they are ONLY considering big names. I still think Lex WILL be a big name, but at least they appear to be testing a number of actors in an effort to find the right guy. Additionally, if Mulvey did test for Lex, then it does not appear that they are hell-bent on casting a much older actor in the role, as some previous reports have indicated.

Spacey captured the darker aspects of Lex .
If they had dumped the real estate angle , it woud have worked out better

I had so much hope when Spacey was cast. He's still one of my favorite actors, but he played a better Lex Luthor in about 10 other movies than he did in SR (Swimming with Sharks, House of Cards, hell even Horrible Bosses, etc.).

I blame that on the script and direction, Spacey should've been awesome, but he got handed Hackman material to work with.

Yeah, it's a shame. But I also think it was just a paycheck for Spacey. I remember him basically admitting in interviews that he barely did any research on the character because "the script was so good." Now, I can forgive that sort of thing if we're talking about a little known character; for example, Antje Traue admitted to not doing research on Faora and just relying on the script. But Lex Luthor is ICONIC. Do your damned homework.

I love how her performance was so well received that it basically resurrected her comic counterpart's career.

Yeah, she was badass. I hope she shows up in more films because I really like her intensity.
