And LEX doesn't go crazy? :hubba

^ I'll gladly take the crazy, but hold the battlesuit.

They need to figure out something to make Lex more interesting. If all there is to him is being a bald billionaire with a petty grudge against Superman it's not really gonna be all that intriguing.

I'm sure in this day and age they will be a little more adventurous than that.

As long as the words ''real estate'' aren't mentioned, I'm sure we'll be fine.

What is wrong with him having a lot of land? Would it be better if his money came from venture capital?

Nothing wrong with it I suppose, I just meant that I'm sure it won't be such an integral part of the story.

Lex will probably recover General Zod's battle suit that he left on top of the building, make some modifications, and don the battle suit for JL movie.

I'd like Lex to casually mention he owns a lot of real estate, as a throwback to Hackman/Spacey Lex

If I didn't know any better I'd say you were reading my mind since you knew exactly what I was hinting at with my original post. :woot:

But yeah, I'm sure after what happened with SR they'll be sure to avoid making Luthor comical in any context. We don't really need any throwbacks, either. Superman Returns was already one big love letter, we don't need them trying to appease some of the Donner fans by acknowledging the other movies.

Let's move forward on to much better interpretations of the character that will present him as a legitimate threat & not some idiot with a real estate scheme.

I agree. No throw backs. No real estate silliness. Lex Luthor is a character that is equal to the Joker in terms of his relevance to his opposing hero. He's a human that dares to go up against a god. He's the anti-superman. It's time we see the real Lex Luthor and not this odd Donner invention that people call Lex Luthor. I'm rather tired of hearing the GA call Lex a lame villain, because they haven't even seen him portrayed right yet.

That is an understatement....

Casting JP would be perfection, transcendence, awesomesauce, goose-bump-inducing, Heath Ledger-style goodness.....

Better? :oldrazz:

Let's put it this way: with Terrior potentially doing a full-on rewrite and JP being cast, this movie could enter best movie ever territory. :oldrazz:

If those two things happen, that is an actual possibility. I would trade my left leg to have one of those "BEST MOVIE EVARRR!" experiences again.

Ehhhh, I think I'm going to try and keep my expectations in check for this movie. My hopes for MOS after watching the trailers were sky-high. While I tried to keep cool by remembering the cautionary tale that was SR, sometimes my imagination got away with me and I began thinking this could be the best superhero movie ever -- even better than TDK. While I really liked MOS, clearly the film was flawed and did not reach that level.

I will tell you that Terrio certainly gives me hope that this movie will have a better script than MOS. That said, if Phoenix actually gets cast as Lex, all bets are off. :wow: That's Heath Ledger-as-Joker casting right there.

Same here. I'm trying to keep my hype down to prevent disappointment, but if the script's getting help and Phoenix is cast, I will freak the **** out.

I don't think MoS is as flawed as most make it out to be (though that's a personal opinion) while I wouldn't say it's perfect either. But, it's certainly a HUGE step in the right direction when compared to SR.

I agree. I liked mos too and don't mean to **** on it. But it had a flawed script. There wasn't enough dialogue. If this had been corrected, the movie would have been even better. I just want this issue corrected for this movie.

This. Too many people on the Internet act like MOS was the worst movie of the year and anyone who likes it must be, quite literally, mentally handicapped.

I may be a huge Superman fan, but I just can't understand that level of vitriol towards the film. Every time I watch this movie, I feel I enjoy it more and more. The only things that stand out are some clunky lines, too much exposition in the dialogue and some questionable creative decisions. But the good elements far outweigh the bad as far as I'm concerned.

I kind of feel like most of the complaints are really just nitpicks. Not to say that people can't genuinely dislike the film, just that some of the complaints I've seen have been kind of ridiculous.

I've always been a big, big Superman fan, which is why it took me so long to get around to watching MoS. But once I popped the DVD & watched it for the first time I was completely shocked by how good it was. I felt, and still feel like it captures all of the essential elements Superman needs while also being modernized.

The movie isn't perfect but it's a great first step towards this new DC film universe, which is why I want them to tread carefully with every project from here on out (without taking forever to release the movies, I should add).

It does seem that way a lot of time, but I will allow that some of the biggest criticisms do have some validity. The most important ones in my mind would include the massive destruction in the third act, the questionable manner of Pa Kent's death and the fact that Superman, despite being presented as a symbol of hope for humanity, is arguably responsible for bringing the Kryptonians to earth in the first place.

I've also heard some convincing arguments supporting the filmmakers' choices in those three areas. But fans who protest that MOS doesn't depict Superman properly do have an argument; I just happen to disagree with it.

Where nitpicking is concerned, I feel that if those same fans were to subject the first two Christopher Reeve movies to an identical level of ruthless criticism, they wouldn't be able to continue remembering those films through rose-coloured glasses.

If there's anything I've learned after reading through so many discussion boards and film reviews, it's that every film is flawed in some way. The question is whether those flaws are enough to take you out of the movie.

The large amounts of destruction are one of those criticisms I don't find valid. Superman is literally one of the most powerful comic book characters there is, & he was going up against another of his own kind with the same powers. I don't see why anyone was expecting a cleaner outcome.

Superman has portrayed in so many different ways that I'd say that's a little hard to digest. He's been portrayed as everything from a perfect God among men to a flawed alien just trying to fit in. MoS, I think, puts him perfectly in the middle. He's trying to find out who he is & where he fits in, but he's not necessarily complaining every five minutes and accepts who he is.

Where nitpicking is concerned, I feel that if those same fans were to subject the first two Christopher Reeve movies to an identical level of ruthless criticism, they wouldn't be able to continue remembering those films through rose-coloured glasses.

That's why they probably don't. I mean, don't get me wrong, those movies are classics but they got quite a bit wrong that MoS didn't. For instance, making Superman too powerful almost to the point of being unable to relate to.

If there's anything I've learned after reading through so many discussion boards and film reviews, it's that every film is flawed in some way. The question is whether those flaws are enough to take you out of the movie.

I'd agree here, for the most part. There are very few films that are air-tight & have little or minor flaws. In this case, I'd say MoS was good enough to pull me in enough to where I don't pay attention to it's flaws. I just enjoy the ride.
