Live-Action The Little Mermaid

I wouldn't be surprised if they just cut right to the chase and make a live action Frozen already. Strike while the iron is hot and all that...

They did that to an extent with the widely publicized "Once Upon a Time" S4 arc with Anna and Elsa appearing in Storybrooke.

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised either.

Yep.

TV doesn't count.

Something more on a big budget to do it justice and not cosplay.

TV counts when they actually move that story past the movie's ending and add to the mythology, whereas a live action Frozen movie would basically just be "Hey lets show you what you already saw, but with real people on the screen... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GIVE US YOUR DAMN MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!"

The Hollywood Reporter says that The Little Mermaid is indeed in development at Disney, as well as the aforementioned Beauty & The Beast and Mulan, surprisingly enough.

The 1989 film is a childhood favorite of mine. Disney knows they can't screw this up. Hopefully it'll be a musical.

you mean I'll finally see a live action version of my boyhood crush??

oh, and yeah, it almost HAS to be a musical. I mean, Ariel's voice and singing are central to the plot.

Ariel was one of my crushes too. But not having Jodi Benson singing "Part of Your World" will be hard to get over.

If they really wanted to be daring they'd do the original Hans Christian Andersen story, complete with the downbeat, bummer ending.

Doing the mer-kingdom is going to be tricky. What are they going to do, hang hundreds of actors on wires and have them pretend to be swimming and then CGI their fish tails on?

I expect Michael Bay winning an Oscar for best director before Disney doing something "daring"... ;)

Wait, Mulan as well? I'd LOVE to see a live-action Mulan movie. As for LM, any suggestions as to how should play Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, Prince Eric, etc.

Weren't the Gore Verbinski films kind of daring when it comes to tone for a Disney film? Return to Oz was already pretty dark. Oh, and there was that time when they gave Frollo a whole song about how he was sexualy atracted by a gypsy he wanted to burn.

Yeah the Hunchback of Notre Dame had some pretty dark stuff in there.

Prolly. Except they'll make a lot of them just CG and make digital doubles over and over a la Avatar. The only characters that need to be live are Ariel, Triton, her sisters, Ursula and a few supporting mer-people. EVerybody else in the cast are members of the lower food chain. :o

This could be a fantastic movie if done right.

I don't think Disney would do it right.

Well, whoever makes it is pretty much gonna have to deal with being compared to Disney forever.

Well now there's two TLM movies in production Sofia Coppola's and Disneys.

So if Disney is turning classic animated movies into live action, can we expect a live action Lion King at some point??? I mean the lions and other animals would all have to be CG of course. But then again, whats the point of doing that live action when ALL the characters would be CG? I mean a real lion is not gonna play nice with a warthog and a meerkat ha. So I don't think Lion King would be one that could be done in live action. But after the little mermaid, I know there is a live action Frozen coming.

Live action Frozen is not going to be coming any time soon. These are all Disney classics that they are adapting. I doubt they will adapt The Lion King since it would just be cgi and it just isn't worth it just to see a bunch of talking animals just like the animated film.

I'm sure we'll get to Frozen eventually. The Lion King would be pointless. Hopefully they find a really hot actress to play Ariel. I saw a beautiful Snow White actress last time I was at Disney and thought they should do a live action. This was back in 1999 and I'm disappointed we got Kristen Stewart.

The actress should not be hot, but otherwordly beautiful.

AnnaSophia Robb or Saoirse Ronan for the lead.

I like the animated film a lot and so I'd be all for a live action version. I would think though, that the movie itself would have to be a little bit more adult and darker it's it's themes. At least, that's what I'd like to see done with it.

That's more or less what they're doing with The Jungle Book.

Yeah, but that at least has a human character at the center. There are no humans in The Lion King. All they'd be doing different is using CGI rather than 2D animation.

I would still love to see queen latifah as Ursula. She would have some great scenes with dwayne johnson as triton I reckon.

The real question is prince Eric though.
