Live-Action The Little Mermaid

I've not personally enjoyed any of the live action Disney films thus far. My kids have watched a liked a couple. For me, I'd rather stick with the cartoon/original versions.

With that said, I hope this film does well and I do hope the actress nails the roll even if she was not my first casting choice for such.
However, there is absolutely nothing wrong nor racist about those that want the character to be portrayed as originally designed in the animated version. I'm all for diversity and support it. However, changing race to iconic characters just to do it I've never been a fan of that either. I also mean that for any race that is swapped.
For example: I wouldnt want a White guy playing Blade for Marvel, I wouldnt want an asian playing Wolverine for Marvel, I wouldnt want a white guy playing Aladdin for Disney, I wouldnt want an indian man playing Black Panther, I wouldnt want a black man playing Clark Kent. Etc. There is nothing racist in that. Some people just want these iconic characters portrayed as they always have been. But, I do love other diverse characters that have been created. I enjoyed the Calvin Ellis Superman, I really, really love Miles Morales Spiderman. There are always ways to become more diverse and leave original characters the way that they are.

Imagine if Tom Cruise was involved in this movie...

I'm more confused about the fact that they're still filming. This thing has been in production forever.

Yeah, they're saying it was the Delta variant which is all up in the air how effective the vaccines are against it. Who knows.

Tiana is cool but she’s also a frog for like 90% of her movie…while I love Princess and the Frog I’m never gonna stop giving Disney side-eye for that ****.

Wasn't this the same complaint about the movie Soul that ended up being an incredible movie and probably one of the best as of late?

The stupid overly PC title change made me roll my eyes. It was The Frog Princess and then they were afraid that was too offensive. That's literally the movie. Also Randy Newman kind of half assing the songs and the story structure problems.

People thought that at first from the trailer but once the movie came out it was clear that Joe in his soul form was on screen for much less time than his human form, even if it did play with the body swapping trope.

It really doesn’t matter how much time he was in his Soul form or how good the movie was I’m over the ‘black lead animated character gets turned into some other non human thing for a period of the movie’ trope or whatever. Princess and the frog, Spies in Disguise, Soul I liked em but I’m tired of seeing it especially since animated movies with black leads are already rare. Only one I can think of that doesn’t do it is Spider-Man: into the spider-verse.

Well they never got to start shooting in March of last year like planned cause of Covid. They didn’t start until like Jan or Feb of this year.

15 infected people are too many for a film production. I don't think I've read about that happening in other film or tv productions, usually it is just 1 or 2 but 15, that is crazy. Aren't they filming this remotely?

Oh, I thought they had started shooting before the end of 2020. Still, they shouldn't have a whole lot left since I'm assuming 70% of this movie will be bluescreen due to how much of the story takes place underwater.

Yeah They planned on late 2020 but Melissas schedule and Covid knocked it to this year. I’m not sure how much they have left but I assume it’s prolly been a slower production than usual just cause of covid and now they’re delayed again.

Yeah I thought the title should’ve stayed the same too since she’s a frog before she’s a princess. I actually liked most of the songs “when we’re human” and “goin down the bayou” maybe needed a bit more work or revision. They could’ve added an extra day to the story to help sell them falling in love as it does seem a bit fast but hey Cinderella falls in love just from one dance lol.

yup. I thought soul was the better movie when he was a human. Then he turned into a cat for most of the film. Getting real tired of that tbh. I don’t know what’s the deal with this trope but it needs to stop

That hat isn’t canon!

Just kidding ;) looks awesome! The costumes in all the Disney adaptions are amazing especially in Cruella

Facebook

Pretty cool. I'm not enough of a fan of anything to do all that lol

I just wish they had better black princess movies to adapt into live action.

But since they don't I'm not opposed to a black Ariel.

It will be a rare blockbuster with a black girl protagonist for black little girls to identify with.

It's ridiculously rare.
