There is also no stigma or anything against red-headed actors. We aren't talking about a marginalized group here that can't get work.
Debatable lol

Treasure Planet and Atlantis both deserved so much more love than they got upon release, and it makes me so happy that they've developed a cult following in recent years. THOSE are the movies that should be getting remade - the ones that never reached their full potential with the original version. It's sad to think Treasure Planet was/is the biggest modern bomb of Disney Animation history. Glad that it didn't kill Musker and Clements career though with Princess and the Frog and Moana finishing their run.
Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise weren't so lucky after Atlantis (they previously directed Beauty and the Beast and Hunchback). That was their last full length theatrical film!
Every time I see Carrot Top, it reminds of Norm MacDonald and "Chairman of the B-O-R-E-D", so now Carrot Top makes me sadDebatable lol

Anyway, the reaction to this is so frustrating. The racism, the bots... I feel so bad for everyone involved. And it sucks, because there are so many very obvious issues with how the remake (and all of the Disney remakes save Cinderella) look, but of course none of that gets talked about because the racists drown out the actual issues. But HOLY COW does this look ugly, cinematography wise. The drive to destroy the stylish "magic" of the original art in the name of "realism" is hitting this one even worse than the ones that came before.
Honestly, you'd think people would be more annoyed not because of Ariel being Black, but because this looks like and probably will be yet another soulless cash-grab of a live-action Disney remake. At this point, as much money as they make, people might just be numb to them because there's no point to them existing beyond Disney opening their vault to see what they can whip up for some cash. Shouldn't that be the prevailing conversation?
No one's ever been able to accuse the anti-woke crowd of being reasonable.Honestly, you'd think people would be more annoyed not because of Ariel being Black, but because this looks like and probably will be yet another soulless cash-grab of a live-action Disney remake. Even fantasy needs some internal logic. It's world building. Pigment exists as a reaction to uv light.Lol dwarves and mermaids don't make much sense. If those fantasy creatures are acceptable, ethnicity shouldn't be an issue.

And as for dwarves and mermaids existing, have you seen the evolutionary record of our own planet? A hobbit like human species existed at one time, dwarfism exists in homo sapiens, and aquatic mammal species do exist on our planet. Nature would be a lot more weird about it, but an aquatic ape evolving wouldnt be outside the realm of possibility.
Has anyone avoided the "obvious issues" of the others? Most people just had fun with them, because they are nostalgia bait. I've enjoyed BatB, Jungle Book, Cruella, Pinocchio, and Cinderella quite a lot. All of them have issues, but that's what I expected. Because these are live action remakes of animated flicks, intended for children, now intended for the adult who remembers seeing them as children.Treasure Planet and Atlantis both deserved so much more love than they got upon release, and it makes me so happy that they've developed a cult following in recent years. The whole conversation around this movie would be so much easier if people just admitted they had a crush on a white cartoon character, and now don't because they aren't attracted to dark skin black women. Which you know, is fine. It really is. You can't help attraction. But the mental gymnastics, down to the pseudoscience to explain a FLIPPIN' MERMAID is just is the peak of gaslighting.
On a child. Or at least, she was in the old movie. Looking up the age of our lead here, she's 22. Which means a lot of grown men are going to have to admit they aren't getting what they came for from an actress who was barely old enough to drink when they made this. Anyways...I mean, that is absolutely going to be the main points when people start talking about the lack of the clamshells.

I lived through the Bryan Singer stuff, so yeah, I've heard it, sadly.Never get the "Its not pedophilia, its ephobilia" speech? And I have seen enough of a certain type of anime discussion to think you are a bit hopeful there.
Thank god for the mods on this site.
I honestly can't remember much about the flick, outside of the music. Which indeed, still slaps, but that is pretty much all Disney movies of that era.It is also almost universally agreed upon to be the bad Renaissance movie, so even if it wasn't problematic it would probably struggle.
Want to see a good Pocahontas movie, watch this one:

I don't need another over sung, over processed soundtrack.I mean, nothing has really sold me on seeing this in theaters. But, I am pretty certain I am getting the soundtrack day 1.
