Live-Action The Little Mermaid

I wonder if they're waiting to see how well a jungle book movie is before they make an official Disney live adaption one? There's probably so many live adaptions going on at the moment they're a little scared off

The Jungle Book is getting extremely positive reviews, Beauty and the Beast is going to be a massive hit for them next year...they'll be going full steam ahead with The Little Mermaid.

They better cause ive been waiting for it since FOREVER!

Yeah me too, I'm dying to see what it looks like. Then again I think Disney have just paid for an all star cast to play somewhere in New York and do the little mermaid so maybe they're gauging audience reaction from that and if it's good it'll get the green light?

I don't have time to read the entire thread. Queen Latifah for Ursula!

Yeah hey should get Latrice Royale or someone to play her.

I reckon they would have to change the ending though to give Ariel more agency. Let's see Ariel grab a harpoon and stab Ursula :)

Gosh that made me sound super violent just then

Yeah, the ending needs work. Ariel needs to be the one to bring Ursula down, or maybe Eric and Ariel together. Also, stabbing her through the chest might be too graphic in a live action movie.

You don't need to show the spear penetrating her flesh, you just need to show it heading in that general direction then cut to her lifeless miserable face sinking to the bottom of the ocean

This is Universal so no Ursula, no ending where they kill the sea witch, and no red hair. Honestly, I think the lack of red hair will disappoint a lot of people when the trailer comes out.

I reckon it'll be one of those deals where Ursula summons a whirlpool and tries to escape from it but gets sucked down into the deepest part of the ocean where the pressure is too great for her but Ariel and Eric escape.

So they off her but in a less violent, confrontational way

Ok so I saw the jungle book last night and now I know they can totally do flounder, Sebastian etc justice.

So I guess Rebel Wilson just auditioned for the part of Ursula with this performance of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' from 'The Little Mermaid Live'. [YT]AypyABiVDes[/YT]

Wow, they'd be dumb to cast anyone but her as Ursula.

I reckon she would be perfect for an Ursula origin story but not for a live action version of the little mermaid. I like Ursula as the evil mom kind of role.

The best Disney villains are like the best Spider-Man villains. They deal with intergenerational conflict

My ears... She clearly tried but that was not a good key for her to sing. And I definitely don't want her to be cast/considered for Ursula in this version. They need to go for someone who can play the old, jaded and bitter vibe who sounds like they've smoked a pack a day for multiple years.

Please God... I'm hoping we don't get an Ursula movie now especially if Cruella does so well... which is already idiotic.

I'd actually like to see a man play Ursula.

If I remember correctly, Ursula was originally designed based on the legendary drag queen Divine, so it wouldn't be a shock at all to get one the currently popular drag performers. There's plenty to choose from!

That's pretty underwhelming.

She has neither the diva sound nor the power to do justice to this role. I think it's out of her range.

She was more or less yelling at the end there, not singing.

That's right.

"According to the directing animator, Ruben Acquine [sic], Ursula was modeled on the drag queen Divine, while the voice and ethos behind Ursula belong to Pat Carroll."

Wasn't it retconned that Ursula used to be like Triton's advisor or something?

No to the Maleficent take. That's the worst of the Disney Fairy Tale movies so far.

Yes to a more a direct approach, like the Jungle Book, which is incredible. Don't reinvent the wheel. A well casted, well produced, well directed film should be enough.

She went from being his sister to his advisor/council, something where she got use her abilities.
