I did enjoy this movie, especially after a rewatch. Poor Unfortunate Souls is better here than in the animated version for me.

We did Little Mermaid and SeaWorld this past weekend, it really added to the experience

Saw it tonight. It was fine, I guess. Was super slow and none of the additions worked for me, but the rest is serviceable like the rest of the remakes. Theater was packed though, and it was nice seeing a lot of the little girls and their moms enjoying the film together.

I thought the beginning was slow. Hailie was great signing wise and Diggs is awesome in everything he does. I liked how they expanded on Eric. I felt like Awkafina took me out a few times. Do they just keep sending check to Lin Manuel?

I did call it that I thought they would redo the end of the final battle and it wouldn't be Eric saving the day. That bothers me because I felt with the animated movie, she saved him and then he saved her. I always enjoyed that. Felt the change was forced.

It got reviews bombed in S.Korea, too.

Here it will open this week...and same with them...unfortunately just yesterday, there was a trending topic that says "アリエル交代" ("Ariel kotai") ,which literally means "change/replace Ariel".

I have no idea as of why suddenly this is become a huge thing now, even in here....but it is truly an unfortunate situation but I hope that it doesn't effect the box office and most certainly doesnt reflect the majority of audiences as Disney movies always performs very well here.

Saw this last night, 6/10 for me.

As someone who grew up on the animated original, this had a LOT to live up to and I have to say it didn't live up to those expectations. I'm one of those folks who doesn't quite get why Disney is adapting so many of their animated classics over to live action. I mean I get that it's easy $, but their lack of creativity recently with these live-action adaptations is kinda mind-boggling.

Halle Bailey did a pretty good job at singing but I found her pretty weak in the acting department after the part where she lost her voice and got into the castle - her "physical" acting after losing her voice just wasn't enough, and a lot of her charisma was lost. Honestly feel that there could've been a stronger actress for the part - Hailee Steinfeld comes to mind as someone who probably could've nailed that physical charisma better.

I mean it wasn't terrible, and it was certainly pulled off moderately well for a big-budget version of a Disney classic. But it lacked some of what made the original so memorable - its colors, style, and tone. Also kudos to Melissa McCarthy for doing justice to the Ursula character, and Jonah Hauer-King for being a surprisingly decent Eric (although honestly a younger Henry Cavill would've been near-perfect for the role).

With the poor showing for China and South Korea TLM needs a strong showing in Japan to salvage $600m worldwide (break even is somewhere between $625m and $750m WW, depending on the actual marketing costs and the Domestic vs. overseas split and it currently sits at $343m WW).
I was expecting $60m to $80m from Japan based on previous showings from Disney.

A few examples of Disney movies theatrical boxoffice in Japan:

Aladdin (live action) - $112.4m
Lion King (live action) - $62.6m
Moana (animated) - $45.9m
Frozen 2 (animated) - $122.6m
Frozen (animated) - $249m

I plan to see this tomorrow afternoon...
I am not really a number guy but I just know that Disney movies always performs really well here and always packed (Disney brand are really strong here)
The showing that I will attend tomorrow already got more than half seat full...I suspect tomorrow will be more packed than today's.

The reviews so far that I've read on several local sites was that the movie's seems on par with the average of Maleficent and The Lion King, but below the more successful Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.

Someone pointed out something that hadn't occurred to me at all when looking at overseas markets.

When looking at the pros and cons of this movie the biggest pro mentioned by just about every reviewer is Halle's singing, but for virtually every non english speaking market unless you are watching it with subtitles you aren't hearing Halle sing..

I knew they voice swapped a lot for animated movies, but I didn't think it was common in live action.
