The Amazing Spider-Man Lizard's New Look: Verdict?--POLL

What did you think of his appearance?

  • PERFECT! It's the character come to life!

  • THAT'S the Lizard?! Mini-godzilla without the coat?

  • Can't tell yet. He wasn't in the trailer enough.

  • Where's Venom?!

  • It seems ok.

Well, what did you expect? A Velociraptor in a lab coat?
I'll just quote an earlier post:
I didn't want him to look like a velociraptor or crocodile. Dr. Connor's serum is derived from lizard DNA for regenerative purposes. Those two species, along with Komodo dragons, cannot regenerate lost limbs. It makes no sense for The Lizard to resemble those creatures.

Whenever I think of The Lizard, I think of a humanoid skink:

Give it red eyes, elongated teeth, and The Lizard's trademark clothes and I would have been happy as a clam.

I'd love to see a design of that.

I can visualize it pretty well, but I don't have the Photoshop/manip skills to do it justice :csad:.

Anyway, my ideal scenario would have been for The Lizard to be given the "Fly" treatment. Have him start out looking fairly humanesque (Ditko/Romita designs), and have him become more and more bestial and reptilian as the film progresses.

I think that might have worked well.

For someone who acts like they know a thing about the new cartoon and have never seen the poster....shame

Yah....that would be Ultimate Green Goblin in the top corner

And that would be Ultimate Doc Ock in the other corner

And....once again, you take that I am insulted by your remarks, but no, you're only acting like a child as only a child would have some kind of name-calling battle with my username, hence why I called you a kid on the last comment.

Know your **** before you type a remark.
I've seen that image but didn't think it was for the cartoon, seeing as the drawing was taken directly out of the comics. In fact I'm pretty sure all the background characters were. Now, apart from the traditional costume, the art style of Spider-Man in the cartoon looks nothing like that, does it?

You treat that like it's technically confirming what you claim. I know about the **** I type, but it's obvious you don't.

It seems like everyone wants this:

Here's the thing though: Thats an alligator/T-Rex hybrid head. Not a Lizard. Case closed.
You guys make up the lamest excuses for the film makers. That's one thing this forum currently lacks completely and that's people who dare to criticize as harshly as they actually feel.

It's reptilian and very bestial. It's a science fiction movie, the design we currently have is just as realistic.

That is exactly what the most popular design of Lizard in the cartoons and comics would look like when adapted onto film.

And there's a lamer excuse number 2 that a T-Rex look would have been generic and uncreative. How ****ing pretentious can you idiots be? Did you find it generic and uncreative that you resented the same Lizard look in Spider-Man: The Animated series? Or the looks in the comics? Or in Spectacular Spider-Man? You hypocritical turds.

Face it, if the design were like that, and you saw THAT Lizard jumping around and wrestling with Spider-Man, strangling Spidey with its tail bringing him close to its threatening, salivary jaws with its tongue and teeth like that, all brought onto film in the brilliant CGI that we've been shown, you all would have nerdgasmed. Especially Spidey fans that have enjoyed the 90s cartoon and TSSM.

In fact, I'd bet my first-day tickets that 90-100% of votes say "PERFECT! It's the character come to life!".

Instead, look at the mixed reaction we have now. Only 20% take it positively. Ha ha ha wow!

Something I'm not sure if anyone mentioned, is how this version can be portrayed. One of the problems you create for yourself when you give him a ling lizard snout, if how do you make him speak. By keeping a more humanoid face, it enables them to let The Lizard speak in a believable manner. Making something that looks like a velociraptor talk would look corny and, at least in my opinion, very distracting. Those are my thoughts on the look.

Do we really want the Lizard to speak?

He speaks in the comics, so yeah! In fact, I'm hoping for a scene of him grabbing Spidey and screaming, "WARM BLOOD!!!"

Speaking of such comments, I never thought it made much sense that the Lizard is supposedly cold-blooded, when he's not shown to be. If he were really cold-blooded, he would lethargic and slow, and much easier to find, since he would have to sun himself to raise his body temperature. In other words, a pretty lame villain.

That's the only problem with a long bestial snout, that it definitely can't speak as clearly as with a humanoid mouth.

Still, I'm pretty sure it can be worked out. That raptor face looks like it could mimic how we mostly speak.

Take "WARM BLOOD", for example. If you observe how our mouths shape when we say that, you can imagine it is definitely possible on a raptor face as well. Vowels shouldn't be a problem as long as you give it a voice. "W" takes a simple shape with our mouth that I can imagine on a raptor's, "M" is just a closed-mouth sound, "L" is simply our tongue and the upper part of our mouth making the sound, "D" is the same as "L" except we create that "D" sound compression when we make air molecules collide or something like that.

Hope I didn't sound too long-winded, but you can see its plausibility. The only issue could be that we (or just I) haven't seen a bestial face trying to realistically speak like humans (except for Pixar), so it may look wrong or weird at first, and may or may not get used to it. But then again, it may not have a problem at all.

In fact, think of Pixar! They have plenty of non-humanoid faces speaking and it looks completely plausible, don't they? It just took them a bunch of talented animators.

I told my friend that the lizard from comic con pics looked like a green velcoraptor on steriods. He agreed.

Obviously not since you're only going by the animation of what Spidey looks like now.

That promo art was released two years before it airs on April 1st or whenever it airs this year, so even if the liberties of Spidey's suit were changed, the show is still based on the Ultimate comics that will feature Spidey in high school teaming with a variation of the Marvel Knights while Nick Fury, the ULTIMATE version is trying to train Spidey into becoming "The Ultimate Spider-Man", which is just a silly and ignorant tagline because the show is called Ultimate Spider-Man which is based on the Ultimate comics.

The concept art indeed changed for Spidey, but everything will maintain its Ultimate aspect and environment. But, if you don't believe me, then I guess we can all wait until the show airs, then you will indeed find out yourself.

But, I must say, you toned down your childish behavior on this reply, so gracias

Do we really want the Lizard to speak?

Well, we know that Lizard will be speaking and we know what, to a point, the voice will sound like and I for one am excited to see Lizard talk. Just one of many factors to show that Lizard still has this humanistic side to him, and possibly struggling against the animalistic side.

This more make sense....Lizard movie version. There is always difference comic version & movie version like spidey, venom & green goblin....btw...is all still good & awesome.....just accept it...spidey rule:spidey:

I always kinda knew they would be going with a more flat faced look if the lizard was going to be in a movie, and I was ok with it. If the lizard was just a mindless beast causing mayhem, then the snout look would've been great, but as a main villain he needs to something else than just a beast. A beast lizard can hold up being the main villain of one episode, but in a movie there really needs to be something more

I love that even though his face is flat, the mouth still opens on the sides, gives it a beastly look while at the same time keeping him as a believable main villain

That mask looks really cool! The Lizard movie look has grown on me!

Everything Pixar does is still in the realm of cartoon. They are still afforded the same liberties as the old WB stuff. Not a fair comparison.

Now will people shut the **** up about his human-looking mouth? Doesn't look too human now, does it? :D

Nope and from the trailer, we know for sure his eyes aren't human.

One thing to point out though, his face sticks out a slight bit more in the movie than it does here. I've looked at some screenshots and its definitely a small snout and not as flat as it is there.

However, That mask is what he'll look like though.
