To be fair, they obviously based him on the Ditko version of Lizard. It's not like he never had a flat face in the comics. If the Ditko version wouldn't exist, then we could call it bastardization. But as it stands right now, they simply went with a version of the character, that simply not everyone likes.

I'm aware of the look. But he also didn't have a square jaw, white/yellow coloring on his chest and face, nor did he lack a white coat that made him appear like a monster out of Doctor Who.

Again, I'm trying to be fair but this is the worst Spidey villain visualization since the GG-Ranger design in the first movie.

I was thinking his first appearance:

He's bigger, but he isn't hulking over him like some fans expect from the character. Another way to put it is if you showed me a picture of SM3's Venom out-of-context from the movie (if I'd never seen it), I'd go "Venom." Same with Doc Ock or Sandman. If you showed me this Lizard, I wouldn't know it was supposed to be the iconic character from the comics.

The deal is that the cartoon WILL be using the Ultimate versions of the villains, thus meaning a purple fish-lizard instead of what Lizard should look like

so you've confirmed this with the artists of the show. nice.

you could get a clue before thinking that whatever an adaptation is based on will follow everything. what's in front of your eyes here, for example; the reboot. apparently based off the amazing and ultimate comics, the suit's design is completely original, and the lizard looks more like a green Thing than anything (no pun). the best i'll give it is that it looks like a bastardized ditko Lizard, which would have been the worst design to base off from anyway. i mean look at it.

i don't get why people try hard to appreciate it, because it's an old classic? original? nostalgic? that was drawn in the 60s or 70s people. we're well into the next century already.

and as far as a bit of cheesy yet accurate meddling with your name is concerned, it wasted a couple of my seconds. but yeah you're a dumbass. oh and i dont care why you would name yourself after a time period.

just to continue my on topic rant, anyway, i remember this image posted here a while back

this actually looks very good for a nude Lizard. and to think a video game studio has much better taste than a blockbuster one....

now ask yourself, if that was how the Lizard looked in the film, most of you would think it's pretty sweet wouldnt you?? i remember the reception on this board was very positive, when this image was posted back then

it's a pretty damn good design imo. ideal-length snout with the perfect look of a lizard, and not a raptor. riiight??? oh oh and look at it's tall and lean body. makes it look both very strong and agile. this green "The Thing" we got now doesn't look half as agile as the Lizards we see in Spiderman 90s animated series and TSSM, that crawled walls and jumped with as much agility and speed as spiderman.

the Lizard we get in this reboot looks just like any other tanky character. like how the Hulk in movies jumps around with one colossal leap that crushes the cement beneath. did the Thing jump like that in FF4 movies too? whatever happened to a dexterous Lizard?

At first I had my doubts with Lizard's design, but after seeing this new trailer in real HD I have to say that I am really pleased how he turned out to be.
I think it's too early to form a definitive opinion about the villain because we have seen so little so far, but I can say that I really like his movements. He is slippery, huge and very fast. I like the texture and the look of his tail, and hope he puts it to good use in action.
I like the fact that they went with a more humanoid looking creature, because it looks way more disturbing this way. To make it clear, I was most afraid they would take the velociraptor look, which in my opinion doesn't embody much character.
In one brief shot we can see him operating the device on top of the tower which leads to suspicion that this will not be a mindless monster, but an intelligent being with a clear goal; which puts another dimension to the character. I want to see him speak, or do something before I make my final opinion.
It's a fact that his lab coat is one of his distinguishable aspects, but thinking about it it would make no sense for a 9 feet creature to remain in his clothing. And I am somehow certain that we'll get a scene with him in his coat during his first transformations.

I'm ok with the design and I'll deal but to say that I'm pleased would only be me lying to myself or me trying to convince myself that it's a good iteration of Lizard when it honestly could have been done better.

I honestly think that if they wanted to go with a human-faced Lizard, Romita Sr.'s attempt in Lizzy's second appearance would've been the way to go:

Mind you, I think his look from the '80s onwards would have been better. Again though, if he had a coat and a less humanoid face I would be much happier.

I still think they should have had the Lizard evolve over the course of the film.

Have him start out looking fairly humanoid (Ditko/Romita), and have him gradually become more and more bestial and reptile-like. That way, they could have utilized a wide variety of looks from the comic books.

Looking at the poster for USM clearly shows that what I am saying is fact. Maybe you'll just have to wait and see for yourself, then I can bring this back up to you.

And maybe by then you'll actually grow up because with that attitude of yours, I don't think you'll be lasting quite a while on these boards kid

You know, I'm going to go ahead and say that we might actually get a Lizard with a snout. I remember in the trailer where we see a close-up shot of the Lizard's eye open. I believe that the Lizard will probably go through a gradual transformation process (humanoid Lizard to full Lizard). In that scene of the close-up shot, I'm speculating that's when the Lizard will completely transform into a full Lizard.

I'm oaky with lizard's look, but it could have been better. It's not terrible, but it's also not great.

I like the fact Lizard is big. I miss the white lab coat, I hope it makes an appearance somehow with him as Lizard.

But overall I'm not dissssssapointed (see what I did there)

The pic of his face on that toy we saw scared the beejesus out of me. I hope the CGI is more polished and the we get some awesome fights.

I just don't think the 'raptor' look would have worked too well in live action (pertaining to a Spider-Man villian, in Jurassic Park yes), so I can see why they designed him the way they did.
