So the girl only speaks Spanish? Wonder why they're stealing and why she just attacks that clerk. Is it because she's been part of a lab experiment most of her life growing up?

Just wanted to note...did anyone notice Logan has shaven and looks slightly like his usual self in some scenes, where he says "I'm not who you think I am."

I'm just wondering why not shave it further, the two sides of his facial hair is slightly longer, but why not cut his hair shorter? I'm just wondering what the reason was for not completely shaving it back to the classic Wolverine haircut and beard? I mean he looks close to classic Wolverine, but only half-way. So why even bother shaving 90% of it?
We don't know if she'll speak only Spanish yet throughout the film. Thus far (the first 42 minutes), she speaks Spanish and her character is Latina.

Reading her comic book origin will provide insight into why Laura is the way she is. Mangold literally said that she is adapted straight from Yost/Kyle's X-23: Innocence Lost. In short, she's a modern day Pinocchio - a samurai sword that wants to become a real girl.

I don't think Logan will don the costume, but what jmc's saying about the intent of the comic book and the X-Men being once storied and celebrated heroes is pretty on the money I feel like. Logan and Charles are recalled to life by seeing Laura - deep down, they're still X-Men. This film will see them reclaim what has been taken from them in the last 6 years through their interactions with the girl.

I bring up the idea because I'm wondering if the comic book scene in the trailer is actually a piece of foreboding. Everyone seems to agree that it looks completely out of place and way too meta, but it's got me thinking that there might be something more to it. X-23 reads the comics, sees Logan as being a hero, he thinks he isn't, finale comes along where he wants to prove to her and himself that he is, so he dons the costume. Admittedly it's a long shot and I'm maybe reading too much into it, but it's the only explanation I can think of as to why you would put that comic book scene in the trailer. One of those things that the creative team places in plain sight but no one picks up on it.

It also depends if the costume is out of place with the tone james mangold is setting up, i mean apparently he has said Mr Sinister wouldn't suit the movie because its tone is very real and grounded to reality.

Its possible the comic is just a wink to the outfit, just a way of acknowledging it.

True. It's just kinda odd though that scene would have been shown in the trailer.

I wouldn't be surprised if it plays into the film later on though, i dunno about the outfit but i could see the Logan looking at a comic with wolverine on the front before going off to the final fight

According to those spoilers one does have just wolverine on the cover that he spots on the backseat of the car

When I said "classic" I didn't mean the costume, I meant Wolverine's hair, the way he's looked for the past 8 other related X-Men movies until this one...

Interesting, I would have never thought of that.

They are broke. I wonder what happened to Xavier's wealth.

I just thought of a few ways they could get Wolverine in the yellow and blue costume that won't feel too corny or forced.

1) Wolverine has a brief flashback to the glory days of his colorful costume escapades. Like literally a 2-3 second flash of him posing, then another one of him attacking something.

2) X23 can have a dream sequence where she imagines a "fantasized" version of Wolverine where he goes full 90's with the classic costume and dialogue. It won't feel too out of place if it's a dream, and it will stay in context with the character, as she's already a X-men fan girl.

Probably won't happen, but a man can dream.

Mangold said the comic is referencing a supposedly important event that Logan is trying to run from. I think there's a good chance we see a flashback that shows what really happened that the comic is dramatizing.

Charles went into hiding after the "East Coast incident", which appears to have been
an involuntary brain tremor that wiped out the X-Men and their Westchester neighbors.

I don't, i think what that comic shows would be abit much to offer in a small flashback since mangold can do what he wants in comic form because there would be no limitations and no one can say how accurate it is.

Plus he can use whoever he wants without getting the actors because translating that to live action would take much more working out, esp just for a flashback.

This film looks great. I'm glad that Mangold was honest about the Caliban situation. He didn't come up with some spiel. There is just a lack of planning and neither director knew the character was being used in the other's movie before it was too late.

This does also lead me to believe that Singer actually expected Mr. Sinister to be the villain of this film but he in fact will have nothing to do with X-23's origins.

Well to be fair singer did say he had it planned for a deadpool tease also so maybe the Mr Sinister tease was actually for deadpool while the DNA thing was for Logan

I think he meant that its not okay to hurt civilian people.
Yeah no kidding. The LOL is it doesn't keep him from snatching a cigar while the civilian is still down flat on his back.
Are we really explaining this?:funny:

I'm just glad Mangold and Jackman finally had enough to say to Fox our way or no way even if it meant a smaller budget and Hugh taking a paycut.

They are definitely playing her as the distant, broody, silent type (in any language), which works great for the character.
Thematically it adds to the rift between Logan and a kid he's trying to deny may need him, I imagine she's a quick study, will have English down and something to say to Logan before the end. :cwink:

Nicely put.
I think the trailer conveys that beautifully.

Sinister has the connection with the Summers bloodline, so I could see how that works with Cable now being in the mix.

Let's imagine Logan doesn't line up with previous films. What does it change?

So you're saying it's fine is there is no continuity within a franchise of sequels, prequels and spin-offs?

I say it shouldn't be a slave to it. And if a story, characterizations or world building demand it, they can alter stuff. Deadpool is a good example.
