Yeah, North By Northwest is one of my favorites with Cary Grant. I also like Vertigo, Lifeboat, & The Birds.

Yeah, I watched it for the 1st time about 2 months ago on TCM & the suspense just kept me glued to the t.v. I often confuse it with another similar movie called Abandon Ship, with Tyrone Power. LOL

So. Apes was really good, huh? I rather liked the first one. I'm never against remakes or reboots on principal. Like Ben-Hur? Think it's a classic? It's a remake. Like The Maltese Falcon? Yep. Remake.

This franchise is making its own impression, like the original Apes with Charleton Heston did. Except here, the emphasis is on Caesar and the story of the apes themselves. It's quite an achievement.

Look, I of course enjoy things that are made up whole cloth and original. But I don't see what the problem is with a remak/reboot. The hurdle for such films is exactly as that for any other movie: The execution. How is it done? Is it a quality work? Even if it's formulaic, does it hit that formula with crackerjack accuracy and timing? Every time I hear about a remake or the like all I think to myself is "I hope they do a good job."

I'll just retro fit my own personal canon and think that these new APES films are the actual backstory that the later 70's APES films did so poorly a job of showing us, about the actual ascension of the Apes over man.

That seems to be where it's headed. But the most important thing was that when it was over, it left me wanting more. So I'm very much looking forward to the third film (Reign of the Planet of the Apes? )

I don't love him or anything, but his films are suspenseful and great. I've seen Psycho, North by Northwest, Rear Window, and the first half of The Birds. Gosh, they're all awesome, but I guess it's Rear Window. It had me at the edge of my seat with all the suspense.

North by Northwest was a really great spy thriller. That plane scene is all kinds of awesome.

Psycho is one of the few horror movies to actually scare me. That Norman Bates scene at the end!

So you've caught a good bit of Hitch's filmography. Yet... You still haven't found the time to see THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN or THE GREAT ESCAPE. tsk, tsk....
