Mad Max: Fury Road - Part 1

Also Charlize Theron revealed that Max and Furiosa's first interaction is a brutal fight scene where they're trying to kill each other.

Somehow the idea of Hardy and Charlize beating the **** out of each other is both entertaining and somehow kind of sexy.

I first saw Hardy in Bronson. Great film by the way. He was better than JGL in Inception.

Often Hardy gets ignored during the Awards season. I mean, he got some love for Locke but it's not enough love for a guy of his caliber.

I think though, in order to make it big within the upper-tier awards committees, it can be huge a political game, and Hardy isn't the type who wants to play around with that.

Totally agree on all counts. The LA and Toronto Critics Associations voted him Best Actor for Locke and he was nominated for the British Independent Film Award (which he won for Bronson), but I don't any expect any notice from the Globes or Oscars. Those will go to bigger stars, half of which are lesser actors. Hardy's performances in Bronson and Locke were better than plenty of Oscar-winning performances.

As you said though, Hardy himself doesn't seem the type to give a ****.

Hardy doesn't really do the Oscar bait type of movies that usually garner a actor nomination.

Perhaps that Elton John Biopic he is liked with might get him a nomination.

He was also very amazing in The Drop. He changed up his voice and composure a lot...

agree. Michael Fassbender is the same. if he would promote and play their game he would won the oscar for 12 years Slave.

Idk, personally I supported Leto, though Fass was good too.

Hardy in Bronson is like one of the most awesome performances of the 2000s though. It's so just balls out and you can tell how much he poured into it. Especially given how he tends to play these stoic quieter guys, so being so wild and crazy in Bronson was a big display of his range.

In addition to campaigning, Oscars is a matter of having the right role, film, and especially narrative at the right time. Also, an average actor/actress who suddenly give an above average performance has a more attractive narrative to the Academy over someone who's been giving consistently great performances.

Another guy who gets no love from the Oscars: Oscar Isaac. Not only for Inside Lleywn Davis, but I'd doubt he'll get a nom for A Most Violent Year.

I feel like his time is coming pretty soon especially with his big projects coming up. He's too popular now to not be ignored. Kinda like Cumberbatch.

Whether or not you have an Oscar has little to no bearing on whether you're a better or worse actor anyway.

Some awesome actors don't have even a nomination to their name, and some mediocre actors have multiple nominations or even multiple wins.

Cumberbatch is getting Oscar buzz for The Imitation Game.

You're right but I'm always the type who roots for the underdog, especially in the film industry. It's the 'It WOULD be nice dot dot dot' argument.

That's what I meant. Isaac's time will come like how Cumberbatch is getting his chance right now. He's now getting buzz because he has the right role, performance, etc. and he's too popular to be ignored.

If Hardy ever ended up doing his Elton John biopic and actually managed to pull it off, that's the kind of wildly against type role that could possibly get some award attention. But last word is apparently the project's having trouble finding funding and might not even happen anyway.

Another possibility is Legend, where he plays the dual role of the Kray twins. Playing two characters simultaneously in one movie is another kind of juicy acting showcase that could get attention if the movie gets any notice. A lot of Hardy's stuff though, like Locke and The Drop, is low-profile limited release indie movies where he's critically-acclaimed but the movie flies under the radar.

Hopefully Mad Max and Suicide Squad help propel him into a little more attention.

Hardy's popularity trajectory was odd. People were expecting him to blow up big time after TDKR (some were even predicting him to get an Oscar for that and all that type of hyperbolic hype) but it didn't happen (understandably so, IMO, because he was wearing a mask for almost the entire film and TDKR wasn't as big as TDK) but his time is coming. Mad Max and Suicide Squad is a one-two punch. WB clearly loves him. They want him to be a star so that's on his favor. Having that upcoming TV show will help too.

Till this very day, I can bet you people like his Bane but most don't bother to find out who the actor behind the mask is. It's weird.

Hardy's become a critical darling too. LA and Toronto critics associations voted him Best Actor for Locke, and internet critic James Berardinelli named his performances in Bronson, Warrior, and Locke among the best of their respective years and has called him one of the best actors currently working today.

Both Sony and Fox were reportedly interested in for roles in Sinister Six and Apocalypse.

Hardy is very in demand right now.

The thing with Hardy is that he's a character actor but with the potential to be a magnetic leading man.
