Can anyone explain what is going on with Tom Hardy's voice for this film?
Like why is he talking in such a goofy way? His accent just sounds so weird....what do you mean?
This is one of the more normal voices Hardy has done in a movie.
There's nothing normal about it. Like it sounds like he's using a bad accent on purpose.
Except in This Means War.*shrugs*
It doesn't sound that weird to me, but I'd just chalk it up to Hardy indulging his thing for weird voices and generally being incapable or uninterested in playing any character in a normal way. A Hardy character being kinda weird is par for the course.
His accent sounds a little wobbly between English/Australian (?) and sort of American at times, but I don't think he sounds that weird.
Except in This Means War.
This is exactly what I'm saying. OK you are OK with it but even you are saying it sounds wobbly and sort of American, so you can see why I find it rather weird and offputting doncha?
And just to be clear, I want to see this movie, and I think Tom Hardy is a tremendous actor. But I still think this is an impulse someone should've stamped down. Miller should've told him pick an accent and stick with it.
It's almost like Tom Hardy grew up with the American dub of Mad Max and then watched Road Warrior and was like..."You know what? I'm going to mash everything together with my own accent and it will be like I'm playing Mel Toibsardy!"
Reportedly he barely speaks in the film, so I doubt it'll be a big deal.
After all, Mel only had like 16 lines in Road Warrior.
