I've watched the movie last night again for the 6th or so time and I still find myself catching things I hadn't before. I even still missed things as I discovered after I did some reading online. I can't believe I still missed the obvious visual clue that Furiosa used to be a wife. /shameful

When people say they find the movie boring because it's just a car chase I wonder if this kind of storytelling is really not for everyone. Almost everything is told in visuals. Whether it's someones's clothes, a look/expression, the way they block a scene and where the characters are positioned in the shot. To me that's just amazing.

And I still after so many rewatches haven't decided if Furiosa deserves the redemption she is looking for. I waver on that every single time.

She has the brand on the back of her neck. But they were about to brand Max too at the beginning, so I don't think it necessarily means Furiosa was a wife.

She does tell Max she was stolen as a child, and IIRC, Theron said behind the scenes that Furiosa was a wife but is infertile.

Someone pointed it out online (part of the reading I did) that the fabrik of her shirt is the exact same material (just older and dirty) that the 5 wives are wearing.

Pretty sure he got shot in the knee in the first one didn't he? He has the brace from then on.

Yep, its towards the end of the first movie, Toecutters right hand guy shoots him in the knee then rides his bike over Max's arm, before Max blows him away. Max limps for the rest of the movie but has the brace in the sequel from the off.

Yup; he gets shot in the knee at the end of Mad Max 1, and has the leg brace throughout Road Warrior and Fury Road. Thunderdome is the odd one out; not only is it the only film where he doesn’t have a (working) Interceptor, he also does NOT have the brace, though he does wear what looks like a bandage around that knee.

On another note, I (finally) finished playing the Mad Max game after taking a few months off for other things. I’m really, really impressed with it. It captured so many facets of the world so well and was fun as hell. I definitely think it’s one of (if not the) best movie-tie in games to be made (though it doesn’t directly follow any movie, it is heavily influenced by Fury Road). I really hope they make another game.

Is it not? Considering it put Miller down as writing the story, though clearly not word for word as the writing is very mediocre, I was under the impression it was. If I'm wrong, well my mistake then. Oops.

The game is great, I am about 10 hours in and started some others in the meantime but will be going back to it, it captures a good mix of the movies for me and is the closest you will ever come to being in one.

If you look at Furiosa she is flawless (like the Wives), except for the branding on her neck and her missing hand. I never thought Furiosa was born with her hand missing because she and her mother were both taken. So her mother clearly gave birth to a healthy child (no tumors, no birth defects) and Immortan took her (current breeder) and Furiosa (future breeder) for that reason.

So you can only imagine the kind of atrocities she had to perform to not only make it to Imperator but driving their most important truck. You don't get there by being a goodie-goodie. That's why I waver so much as to whether I think Furiosa deserves redemption or not. Another favorite of mine is Furiosa, murder faces, especially combined with the bonus this person added on. Both links have 4 stars in it because of the F word so they won't work directy. Just exchange the stars for the F word if you want to read it.

I know his warriors are mostly nale, but I just thought Furiosa was an exception, especially when we see how tough she is in the movie. She looked like she had been in a good few scraps. And one moment of dialogue suggests she had been out in the world on quite a few runs.

Well Theron said there was a really cool backstory for how she lost her hand. Miller said it was an epic battle. I'd like to think the epic battle was Furiosa fighting for her survival when she became useless as a wife (maybe battling Immortan and/or war boys), losing her hand in that battle but surviving the blood loss, not to mention a possible infection considering the world they live in. Someone in those circumstances surviving such an ordeal must be appealing to Immortan considering his Valhalla religion. He could use her as as a poster child for his cult, if you will, hence putting her in a high position in his ranks.

In anticipation of the awards tonight I gave this another viewing. Even after seeing it more than a dozen times I'm still caught in awe of all the spectacle and storytelling. It would be great to see Miller win best director. Best film is a slim chance but that would be incredible.

I rally hope this film can win for costuming or production design. Much of the story telling is done through aesthetic, eye protein as Guillermo del Toro calls it. Also it always ki d of irks when period pieces win over more imaginative films.

I really want Miller to win for Best Director. If Stallone won Best Supporting, DiCaprio won for Best Actor, and Miller won for Best Director, I would go to sleep tonight with 100% happiness.

Insane to see almost everyone Miller worked with win awards and thank him and then have him not win.

This even happened to be a year with a director/picture split, Miller's best chance, but it still didn't happen.

By my count Fury Road won the most awards.

Best movie and Best director should've gone to Mad Max and Miller.

The Revenant was okay but so overrated. People are going to remember Leo's character and not the movie in a few years time.

Lol when Mad Max kept winning awards. That was entertaining.
