But Immortan doesn't run a society in which women would be a part of that. For me she was a wife that Immortan eventually tossed out for one reason or another (my guess is infertility). He probably threw her to the regular folk after and she made it her goal to get away from that place and back to where she came from. But in order to do that she would need access to a vehicle which you only get if you are a part of his war boys.
So you can only imagine the kind of atrocities she had to perform to not only make it to Imperator but driving their most important truck. You don't get there by being a goodie-goodie. That's why I waver so much as to whether I think Furiosa deserves redemption or not. Nothing of what we were shown in the movie, aside from her basically using her crew of boys who trusted her as cannon fodder, made it look like she was a character in need of redemption.
Btw this is an interesting discussion in reagrds to
Anti-heroic Furiosa. That person has a
meta master post section for the movie where there are discussions about the visual story. Another favorite of mine is Furiosa, murder faces, especially combined with the bonus this person added on. Both links have 4 stars in it because of the F word so they won't work directy. Just exchange the stars for the F word if you want to read it.
