Man From U.N.C.L.E movie

I hope the film can sustain that fun breezy tone all through it's runtime.

I hope so too. I'm glad it isn't a more serious and gritty take on it, otherwise that would lose the spirit of the original TV show. It has to be fun and more like 60s Bond.

It seems that they are putting the buddy comedy aspects in the forefront of their ad campaign so I am guessing that element is a big part of the film. Dark and gritty (as we fans like to think of them) doesn't mesh well with that, though it can be integrated as the first two Lethal Weapon films show. I don't think that is what they are going for here though, and that's ok.

A lot of Ritchie's recent films have that manic, fun energy to them throughout and a buddy dynamic so I expect this to be no different. Wasn't the original script when Tom Cruise was attached to this more serious?

That trailer was quite fun and much, much better than I expected it to be. I saw in Cavill more charisma than ever there.

We would be talking more about him if he ended up as Batman. :o

No one talking about the Russian?:o

To be honest I am far from Hammer's biggest fan. As yet, in ANYTHING I have seen him in, I find him kind of dull on screen and can't comprehend why he gets consistent work despite that... But he was ok in the trailer. I thought the voice worked. I really liked the bit with him chopping that guy in the neck ("He'll be out for an hour or so... Don't touch.") and he's a big enough guy that you buy him able to hold his own in a fight against Henry. If they are going buddy cops with this then the chemistry has got to work out between the two leads. So far... Seems they got it.

This reminded me of the Brothers Bloom movie (Brody and Ruffalo with Weisz).

Vikander was terrible in Seventh Son. Hope it was just bad scripting bad direction.

I would have thrown in some more Hugh Grant. But it looks good. Cavill comes off pretty well there.

Henry Cavill was the best part of that trailer. And for the first time, I'm not just referring to his looks. He's seriously channeling Robert Vaughn in the best way, and it seems like he's going to be a blast to watch. In fact, the whole movie looks much better than I was expecting. Looking forward to it.

I am curious if there are any other posters that even remember the series well enough to nitpick the film once it comes out. My mom loved the show when she was young and I remember watching the series in reruns on cable but I have only the vaguest recollections of anything specific outside of THRUSH being the bad guys, the pen radio and that it was a big deal back then to have an American and a Russian working together.
It was my dad's favorite show back when it originally aired, so like a year or two ago I got him the whole series boxset for his birthday. I've watched quite a bit of it with him so I'll definitely be comparing the show and movie as I watch and probably pick up on a lot of the references to the show, though I won't be nitpicking. I'm not attached enough to the show to do that, lol.

Cavill does a pretty good impression of Robert Vaughn. There are times he sounds very similar.

If they were going for such a close approximation of the original, then really I would've liked Alexander Sarsgard as Kuryakin as that would've completed the illusion since he strongly resembles David McCallum.

I like the Northman, but he isn't exactly the best actor. I'd take Hammer over him pretty easily.

The energy in the trailer is similar to Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies. Loving it.

Or Ryan Gosling.

It looks fun. And Cavill seems to be much more charismatic and comfortable in this movie than in MOS.

It is a completely different kind of character. Cavill nailed Clark in MoS imo. If there was a problem with the character, it was the writing imo.

Or Ryan Gosling.

How tall is he though? Would he be tall enough? He doesn't look like McCallum like Skarsgard does. He would've ended up getting top billing over Cavill of he had been in it. This way with Hammer at least, or even with Skarsgard, Cavill would get top billing and he rightly should.

They ever make a live action Archer Cavill had to be Archer and Hammer has to be Barry.

Call me crazy but if that MAGNIFICENT SEVEN re-re-make needs someone for the Vaughn part... Call Henry. I could totally see him as the dapper gunman that's lost his nerve.

It's already happening with Fuqua, Washington and Pratt.

I know. But that's two out of seven. The beauty of the American SEVEN remake was the crazy talent and/or star power of the cast. A nice mix of established actors and up and comers. Henry fits the up and comer mold somewhat, and I would totally be down with getting him in some spurs.

If they are using the classic theme tune, I think they should've put it in the trailer together with the radio pen. These were iconic trademarks at the time which have been forgotten about. But the same could have happened with the Mission Impossible theme and the self destructing tape if these weren't revived for the movies. It's because they're used often again that they become staples of the film series that audiences now recognize. Otherwise many people today might not even remember the Mission Impossible tv series.

Also I would've liked Hugh Grant to explain what UNCLE is or at least have a mention of it in the trailer. Audiences who don't know the TV series might just think this is a standard buddy movie with the CIA and KGB teaming up.
