Everyone is replaceable. I just think if you keep him you'll get a standalone Superman film. If you replace him you're more likely to get guest appearances with a solo film further off.
If they recast it's easy to swap him in these supposed cameos. You can put in a new actor without conflicting with past stories or future plans. If you recast him for an immediate solo you may want bigger changes, an entire new cast, a different version of Superman entirely. I think that would be further down the line.
I think that's a stretch. WB has shown a lack of confidence in Cavill, maybe if they get a great new guy, they'd be more inclined to give a solo movie another shot.
Either way, Cavill or not, I just want another Superman movie. I think it's best to let Cavill go, I'm not even really a fan of his supporting cast or the foundation they've built for this character. Lois and Perry have not captivated me, and Jimmy's dead. Maybe it's time to reboot! General audiences are not even a little bit attached to this iteration of the characters, they could reboot and no one would bat an eye. The whole situation is very comparable to Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man.
Here's a story of a general audience member. My niece and her family watch all the superhero movies mainly because they have two boys. I don't think there are too many actors she can name that play the characters (DC or Marvel)....but a few weeks ago she asked me (she knows I keep up with superhero stuff) if that hot guy Cavill will be making another Superman movie soon. I said I was surprised she knew his name....she said her kids had watched JL several times on cable recently and that she had took notice of him.OK let's be real here for a second. Do we think that anyone besides the fans knows who Cavill is? I don't think he's really caught on with the mainstream audience at all, and I think that he could be replaced without much fuss.
It's not the same as replacing Gadot or Affleck. Gadot has really made her mark as that character, and Affleck is a big star, his absence will be noticed. But Cavill has kinda just been there, and not made much of a splash as Superman. I don't know if that's down to the writing or his actual performance, you be the judge. But I just think that if they are going to recast Superman that it won't be a big problem for anyone except the hardcore fans who are going to see the next Superman movie regardless.
I wasted a whole hour last night randomly researching any famous-to-barely-known actors in movies, TV or Broadway in search of anyone who might have that Superman look/vibe, and came up with zero. When I first saw Henry on the Tudors, it was instant. I just looked at him and said, "that guy should be Superman." It was the look, the voice, the way he carried himself, everything. So, if he does drop out of this role, I'm praying they find a complete unknown to take his place. Because I have negative interest in seeing Armie Hammer, or Sam Claflin, or any other name I've seen thrown out there get the part.
Superman truly is the hardest superhero to cast, imo. With Batman the cowl and theatrics do half the work and you can always use a voice-changer if necessary, but with Supes, you can't really cheat. They just have to look, sound and seem like Superman, naturally.
Out of the relative unknows, Ian Harding of Pretty Little Liars has the face. He reminds me of Matt Bomer. He may also be a little small. I have no idea about his acting.
I caught a few minutes of Benjamin Walker in The Choice last night.
He has the voice, too. But he is TINY. Seems even more so than Matt Bomer. And I don't just mean height, he has a very slight build.Out of the relative unknows, Ian Harding of Pretty Little Liars has the face. He reminds me of Matt Bomer. He may also be a little small. He was great on Broadway apparently, but this dude is just not leading man material for movies, imo.I caught a few minutes of Benjamin Walker in The Choice last night.

Yeah I could see him as Nightwing or something, since gymnast types usually have smaller builds, but Supes would be quite a stretch.I thought Harding might be small. Scratch him off the list.
