Many Home Theaters are now better than 99% of all Cinemas except IMAX... Both in terms of Sound AND Picture quality. Most cinemas run 2K projectors anyways, with very low contrast ratio.

If you have a 150 inch screen and a mid range home theater projector, and sitting about 15 feet away, you're already watching a far superior picture. And if you know what you're doing, getting the right kind of speakers, you can have sound that is as good or better than most IMAX.

How many people really have tv's like that though? and no that still wouldn't be better than actual 15/70 IMAX I don't care how big the speakers are?

The majority of home theater owners or just HDTV owners have tv's in the 50-60+" range and even if the picture quality is technically sharper than even the high end digital theaters you're still talking about a screen 10x smaller. Not to mention you having to wait 4+ months after the film has been released in theaters to get the blu-ray.

I actually prefer my home theater the majority of the time to the movie theaters but for some exceptions MoS certainly being one of them, you can't beat the theatre experience.

Not TVs. FRONT Projectors.. I know, because I am building one myself.

And I did say, 'except for imax'... basically, if you have a front projector (for example in the $4K range, like the Sony HW50ES), and a good quality screen, and a good sized dedicated, light controlled room, you will have better quality than MOST cinemas (i say again, EXCEPT for Imax).

Also, I don't consider TVs as 'home theaters'.. they are more like TV rooms... TV's are a far cry from 'Front Projectors'. Both size and picture quality.

As for sound, if you know what you're doing, for 10K, you can have FAR better quality than, again, MOST Theaters... (This means, high efficiency speakers with GIANT / Multiple Subwoofers)

Right... i saw this and this puts a big stupid grin on my face... t:t:t:

But unfortunately, I can't afford it.. hahaha... I think they'll only sell a dozen or so of these a year...

Plus, you'll need to buy 'Imax' hard drives (content) to run your theater.. each may cost hundreds of dollars... Definitely meant only for the Richie RICH!!!

Other than having an Imax in your home, you can build a dedicated HT room with relatively small budget. I would say about $10K-$20K minimum (includes a good projector, good screen, and appropriate efficient speakers/subwoofers.. for the cheapest options, you'll need to build your own speakers)

There are legitimate reasons for waiting for the DVD/Blu ray rather than go to the cinema.

1) People are noisy
2) Movies are darn experience
3) For some reason the modern cinema goer thinks it's okay to text (bright phone light) during a movie. What the **** is 'that' all about?!

I always see big movies at the cinema but I absolutely understand the people that skip the 'experience'.

But, watching a movie like TDKR in theater is an experience in itself plus you get to see live audience reactions, for example when I first saw TDKR in the first week of it's release, many people cheered and clapped whenever Batman showed up on screen !

I never saw such reaction to any other movie since.

I can see why. It really was The Bruce Wayne Trilogy. I feel nervous about Nolan ruining MOS3 or JLA. MOS2 is rumored to be safely belonging to the master of violence Snyder.

Nowadays, 80% of the movies I watch is on the Imax (big blockbusters with lots of action, special effects, and awesome soundtrack). The experience is out of this world. I can't wait till they have:

- 8K Laser Projectors (which is extremely bright)
- Ability to project onto the Imax 4K resolution to each eye (for 3D viewing) at the same time, each 60 fps.

It'll then be like looking out the window.

Plus, the Sound is just CRAZY.

For other movies, like comedies, dramas, etc, might as well wait till they come out in Blu-Ray.

Thanks! Was just about to ask this. Excited for the success of this film and good to see 280 million this weekend. So close and yet so far to 300 million.

That was from Boxofficemojo. It's just an estimate so it could go down. $4.5 for the weekend does sound about right though

Actually I had 4.10pm IMAX 3D penciled in for today up at Universal. In the week they had it listed, and now they don't. Must have been a mistake. So I have to settle for regular version at The Grove after work.The good thing about that is I don't have to cough up $15+ for parking

300 Million is a nice achievement but it irrelevant to anything they have planned with the character going forward.
