This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]460631[/split]
MOS has a solid, yet unspectacular BO so far. I predict it'll die at $650 WW. That should be a success considering it's a reboot of a character with dying appeal among the GA. If MOS2 has a hard time besting this at the BO, than we might be in some trouble. I don't think WB will ever greenlight a flash, aquaman, or wonder woman solo movie with a $180-$220 budget unless MOS2 is in the ballpark of $800-$1bill.
With mixed reactions and WOM with this film, WB would be wise to scrap their tentative 2014 release date and make sure they have a better script.
Good point.
There is so much hanging on the sequel and how it is written and who is featured.
2016 is soon enough. MOS stumbled but it looks like it will end up at 650 million plus WW. The potential is clearly there for a breakout sequel as BB had and others.
Maybe the totally new team at WB is a plus at this time.
If MOS2 is successful we could get an MOS and a WF's.
Some discount the shortcomings of MOS and its nice to see there are others besides myself who don't.
A great Superman film is possible and when it comes, hopefully the sequel, it will blow away records and rekindle the popularity of Superman in the popular culture which has waned over the past several decades.
Its an exciting time to be a Superman fan.
No doubt Tobias.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I want a Superman film that outdoes TDK and every other superhero franchise out there.
I'm a fan of all comic heroes, but my favorite has always been Supes. I love what Raimi, Nolan, Whedon and all the rest have done for comic book films, but I want Superman to stand over and above the rest. I want Superman to reclaim his spot at the top of the comic book movie food chain. MOS didn't get the rebooted Superman film series off to the best of starts, but that's not to say they can't recover and churn out a hell of a sequel that puts it into the conversation.

But if my toy isn't the newest, the biggest, the best, what is the point?!?!?!I think it would be better to hope for a Superman movie that's true to the character and what you want to see in Superman movie, instead of worrying about what it does to the other franchises.

Nevertheless MOS has been a solid restart of the franchise.
Talking about the sequel, I think only that at WB they are already late in building DC universe at cinema. The lack of a real epilogue that introduced another character/JLA possibility/sequel is still obscure to me.
It has been a good week for the box office of MOS. I think that even next days will be good. At the end of next week we'll know the chances to hit the 300m mark.

I only can imagine that they were too scared by the possibilty of another SR.
Fortunately MOS has been a success, but now they have to hurry on. And it is not a good thing.
Global Box Office: 'Man of Steel' Crosses $500 Million, Sets Sights on $650 Million
Snyder and Christopher Nolan's Man of Steel crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office over the weekend, prompting Warner Bros. to celebrate the successful resurrection of the iconic Superman film franchise.
The tentpole, now in its third weekend, has earned $248.7 million domestically and $271.7 million internationally for a total of $520.4 million. Box observers believe it will ultimately earn north of $650 million worldwide, and perhaps even approach $700 million.
"Man of Steel is an extraordinary achievement by wonderful talents on both sides of the camera," said Sue Kroll, WB president of worldwide marketing and international distribution.
Kroll announced the $500 million milestone with WB president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman and international distribution president Veronika Kwan Vandenberg.
"The film took Superman back to his roots for a new generation of moviegoers, who have once again embraced Krypton and Kansas' favorite son," Fellman said.
Starring Henry Cavill in the title role and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Man of Steel has done huge business in IMAX theaters, which have generated $45.9 million in worldwide ticket sales.
Man of Steel earned $20.8 million domestically for the weekend and $52.2 million internationally, putting it at No. 3 globally behind Brad Pitt's zombie tentpole World War Z, which placed No. 1 for the frame with $99.9 million.
From Paramount, World War Z held well in North America, falling less than 49 percent in its second weekend to $29.8 million for a domestic total of $123.7 million. Overseas, the film opened in another 25 markets, grossing a stellar $70.1 million from a total of 50 markets, and pushing the film's international cume to $135.3 million.
Disney and Pixar's Monsters University, crossing $300 million in its second weekend, placed No. 2 worldwide with weekend receipts of $90.4 million. The 3D animated tentpole stayed at No. 1 in North America with $46.2 million. Overseas, the pic earned $44.2 million from 37 markets for an international total of $129.3 million and worldwide cume of $300.3 million.
Universal's Despicable Me 2 -- playing in only seven international markets -- grossed $41.5 million for the weekend to place No. 4 worldwide, just ahead of Melissa McCarthy-Sandra Bullock R-rated comedy The Heat, which wowed in its North American debut with $40 million for 20th Century Fox.

They were lowballin' it just so they wouldn't look embarrassed if it underperformed.I wonder if Warner Bros was surprised when MOS broke the June opening weekend record and reboot record. I read somewhere that WB only expected $80mil opening weekend, unless that was a lie.

Yeah, and you could tell they were scrambling as they kept "adjusting" their expectations over the first 4 days. Sad really, because I really, really like it.Paramount should have done that with STID because they were expecting a 100 mil!
How about a Luthor/Braniac combo and introduce the Dan Turpin character that would be murdered by Braniac, now we will see some acting from Henry anger, grief and humbled during the funeral for a friend. With Braniac we will see the bottled city of Kandor too. For the JL tie in Clark hears an emergency report of an interdimensional boom tube in Gotham with a report of The Flash and GL already engaging a being calling himself Kalibak
