why is that, and that an indication that MOS will make mucho bucks in Japan?

Well, SR made 11 or 12 million in Japan as I recall. Same late release date. What hurt it was the pirating and such. I'd expect MOS to make somewhat more than SR. If SR did 11 million (I'll have to check BOM on that number) MOS should do maybe 15 million to 20 million? Its a guess but expect north of 11 million anyway.

Damn Tobias is at it again. He won't stop until he has driven this movie into the ground.

No. its a matter of being objective about the quality of the film. Superman deserved better - his films should be the gold standard but MOS was clearly not.

Its being honest about the release date and the poor promotion OS - while domestic promotion was good.

Its wanting to see Superman get the same treatment Marvel films get.

Its about being mad at not getting a stand-alone follow-up film.

Wish they would rerelease this during Labor Day week.

Wish they would rerelease this during Labor Day week.

It expanded to a lot of second run (dollar movie) theaters this weekend which is good news for the box office right now, because many people who miss movies the first week or two decide to wait for the dollar movies. As has been noted (beaten to death) Mos did not have the best scheduling, so those people who did wait and those people who liked it already and want to see it again will have two to three weeks of summer to catch it.

The bad side is that once a movie goes to second run, it is very unlikely that it will get a rerelease in IMAX as has been rumored in this thread.

Still, with a 750 weekend and potentially 250 thousand plus daily takes, MoS will easily clear the 290 million mark and possibly go north of 295 mil.

Glad to see the bump. MOS is still some of the best fun I've had this summer. Looking forward to open at the cheaper cinemas near me so that I can catch it again before BluRay.

And Tobias is randomly back...nice:doh:

I'm busting to see MOS again. Got to find my cheap cinemas as well:word:

Maybe Liam will comment on how much more to expect from the dollar theatre re-release.

SR made about 8 million with its re-release but that was over the Labor Day weekend and it had a big million plus Labor day take.

I think it might end up at 291/292 million. BOM nailed it with their prediction - 290 million.

Japan should do 15 million I suppose, a few million more than SR, so WW MOS will likely come close to 665 million.

MoS has passed IM 2. second highest take for a reboot ever ( highest in dom for a reboot )
some were saying it wouldnt make sr numbers, then when convienent, raised it to 450, then 500, then...well, you get the point.

The point is, most of the public liked it..fanboys and girls cant get a film to 650 mill. It takes the public to get numbers like that. SR only got to 400 mill because the public didnt take to it, they apparently took to MoS.
WB is happy, hence the big comic con announcement. SR didnt get that big sequel announcement btw.
The reason we are getting a Batman/Superman film is WB wants a JL film. so this will be the next peice of the puzzle..its as simple as that.
no conspiracies, no disappointments. Its all about the $$$.

Yes WB wants a JL film to be sure. I think it will follow WF or whatever they call this team up.

BTW, once I saw the trailers (which turned out to be deceiving) and Cavill in promo shots my prediction was 550 - 600 million. MOS will do 660 million and change. Given that 62% or so of predictions in the poll were for 700 million plus I think my predictions were more realistic.

The drop-offs "tell a lie" as they say. If audiences liked it as you say the holds would have been much better.

Go to BOM and Guru. After the first weekend's results, both sites were projecting 325 - 350 million domestic and 800 million WW. Based on the opening weekend and assuming normal holds. Both were way off as it turned out.

No conspiracies true. its all about the money. If MOS had done 800 million Snyder would have gotten his trilogy and not be complaining about having to go along with WB's top down decision to go in a different direction.

As I recently read, its been 30 years since we've had a Superman sequel - and counting.

Hopefully I'll see at least one more stand-alone Supes film while I'm still young but, at this rate....oh well.

Tobias or this Tobeus, I not sure how you pronounce thee name but you are real hupti in la bambo. Try understand that MOS made MONey. Steel makes Money. Iron Make Money. Yes it divide audience and we know not WB's overall conduit type of l'expectations or (expectasionez) on the film's BO (BOX OFFICE< NOT BODY ODOR SILLY).

The aim is realism, realism, with realistic take on what will heppen. Right now all are nervous Mr Tobeus man. Trying to douse more wine with whine into the flame jargons up melander attitudes parsing around with anger. Temper and be water... temper and let waves soar over.

Patient in thee name of sethu... just believe and wait... believe in bad fine, believe in good for film fine, but just do the waiting and will all see what heppen. Maybe Batman overshadow Supermen in next movie whcich then makes your prediction correct in due but try the calm route and not let thyne anger hostle thy mental ball spirit. Temper, calmn breatheing.

Man I was going to post the exact same thing, word for word...echostation beat me to it.

I'm calling BS. You predicted 400 worldwide back around May 30th, that was well after all the trailers came out and all the promo shots were taken and hyped. You've been hating on this movie since day one. No need to hide that and pretend otherwise. Do I really need to bring up your old posts again??? Or maybe Greeneyes should pull your card again and have you disappear for a few months like last time until all the smoke clears.

I'll pull your card - show me a quote where I predicted 400 million WW on May 30th. Ain't there but please - find it if you can and post a link. I am waiting with baited breath.

Bottom line is WB was hoping for way more than 290/650.
This so-called Superman/Batman movie is nothing but desperation.
I know it hurts, but often the truth does. I followed MOS from it's inception and after I saw the film I thought...That was it? Hence, the lower than expected $$$ totals.

My bad, you predicted 250 domestic and 300 OS for a total of 550 WW on May 21st. Either way, your total was still $150 mil short of your prediction. Not bad for a film that you deem to be such a disappointment.:o

If what Robinov said is true then MOS was a big disappointment. I don't know if WB really expected north of a billion - though I think they expected better than MOS performed. Otherwise we'd be getting a straight on sequel.

The Superman/Batman film is not exactly desperation - its more wishful thinking that Batman can pull his magic again IMO. But Nolan and Bale were integral to that magic so I don't know if Bats can save the next film - as in having it do better than MOS.

A rushed summer 2015 release is not desperation - its stupidity IMO.

If WB is disappointed in MOS then forget trying to finesse it with this combo film. It'll potentially wreck the Bats franchise.

Take a step back. Think. Forget 2015. If they are in doubt about the viability of Superman then do a Batman stand-alone reboot next.

It may look like desperation but I don't think it is - the problem is that perception is .....

Thanks for double checking and confirming that. I appreciate it. I'll have to check but as I recall I said it could approach 600 million. I made those predictions before the reviews came in. I signed out a few weeks before the reviews as I didn't want to go through what I went through with SR. Not that I thought the reviews would be bad. I was gun-shy after the years of development hell and after SR.

My total was actually 110 million or so short. MOS should end up at 660 million plus change WW.

Not a bad weekend for Man of Steel getting some more theatres --- and look it topped World War Z for the first time ;)

19 21 Man of Steel WB $750,307 +60.8% 426 +122 $1,761 $288,681,970 $225 9 20 16 Monsters University BV $683,659 -51.3% 405 -474 $1,688 $260,171,175 - 8 21 15 World War Z Par. $654,475 -63.8% 505 -407 $1,296 $197,458,107 $190 8
At last. Lol. Better last then never though.
We thought brad pit n zombie have no drawing power. N MOS would beat WWZ the 1st weekend. How wrong we were.

Surely WB hoped for the sky just like we did. :D
Anyway MOS is one of the great movies this summer. I thought it could have better legs honestly.
I think the WOM that it has massive destruction n killing, has driven away a lot of parents to bring their kids to watch MOS. They went for MU n DM2 instead which guarantee kid friendly.
Besides, people appreciate the fresh idea of zombie in WWZ.

Btw, no good feeling about batman involves into MOS2. I would prefer them develop more on the relationship of Lois n Clark, of superman n the world, n the new threats n villains: lex luthor.

WWZ did incredible numbers. It's close to 200 million domestic and over 500 million WW. With good critical reviews and a multiplier of 3 it is probably the surprise hit of the summer. Don't doubt the Pitt or the drawing power of zombies.i

WB predicted modestly. Deep down, they were all hoping it'd be the next TDK and hit 1B. Still a success, regardless of who says it isn't. Numbers don't lie. It's also evident their lack of confidence in the sequel since they're bringing in the subs already. Batman is their bait to get more people in the theatres.
