Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I was waiting 'til foreign hit that 360 mark.

I went on a date tonight, and we saw MOS (I know, I know) with a pretty full theater that holds about 150 people.

In my area at least, it's still doing pretty well. :-)

Yea I saw it again tonight...was like 10-15 people in there....Still pretty good :)

MoS was released in many regal theatres this weekend. For the last few weeks WB have waited until Monday afternoon to release MoS numbers for the weekend. The movies it was tracking closely with (WWZ and STiD) the last few weeks had a double feature re-release this weekend (and week) and went form about 300 thousand to 800 thou to 1 mil this weekend. i think it is pretty safe o put MoS in between (and potentially a head of those numbers.

MoS will very likely come in at over 291 for the weekend when the numbers re reported which may not happen until tuesday due to the holiday.

As I said in an early post that many foreign countries had individual updates that were not being included in the foreign total which got a big jump when included with the Japanese numbers, I think we can trust in a good domestic bump this weekend as well.

Seems like it isn't the case.

You're right, it could be higher. I was being deliberately conservative. The figure being quoted is only up to and incl. Wednesday's BO. It got an expanded release on Friday and its safe to assume it would pull in similar #'s to WWZ and MU movies that it has been neck and neck with for the past couple of weeks. Going by those movies MOS might have crossed $291 million over the weekend. When I made my assertion that MOS was likely at $290,600,000 I was aware the BO hadn't been updated since Wednesday. It's pretty clear you didn't bother to check before posting a reply to my post. To be fair, perhaps you didn't see those domestic #'s as Iirc you are not in the U.S. I'm hoping for a figure of $800,000 to $1 million but we'll probably have to wait until Tuesday for the actual figure due to the Labor Day holiday.

Geez that's impressive. It's been almost three months since release.

Yeah, there are a lot of people who still seem interested in seeing it, and there are a couple of people that I've seen at other showings. We just kind of grin at each other and try to pretend we're not sad, fannish people for seeing the film. Again.

saw it again today...theater was pretty packed

I think it's only showing at dollar theaters in the L.A. Area and I'd like to see it in IMAX. Heck I 'd even see it in IMAX 3D if that was all that was showing. Hello WB!!!! Can we PUHLEEZE get a limited re-release on some decent screens with great sound systems?? Is that too much to ask? The DVD/BLURAY is still 10 weeks away. MOS could pull in a few million more by November 12th.

Yeah I saw it at a dollar theater.

I saw it 10 days ago at a dollar theater. The quality was pretty rough (sound and picture) but for three bucks, I really have no right to complain. Still, I really want to see it again in good quality and know quite a few people that didn't get around to seeing it, and still would like see it if it wasn't only at dollar theaters.

Life sucks
we didn't get any Man Of Steel showings in my city im really disappointed about that

I see that MU and WWZ had a huge jump in theater count. Regal expanded MOS and Despicable Me to more theaters but I'm not sure how many. Something tells me it wasn't a 1000+ like WWZ/MU.

We are pretty lucky in my community (Boise, Id). Most of the dollar movies are digital with 7.1 sound. The big differences are in the quality of the seats and buildings in general.

I wish WB was providing box office estimates but they have been waiting until after the weekends to give accurate numbers. I think MoS will come in about 800 thou to 1.2 mil this weekend, but that might be really high depending on how the regal re-release went. Since it was selected by "popular demand" and marketed as on one week opportunity, there is the potential for some really solid numbers. Also all the sequel rumblings this week and doing so well in end of summer polls might have put a few people in the seat who took the RT score to heart.

Doesn't really matter at this point really because we know all we need to know, July 17, 2015....at least WB learned from the scheduling mistake this year.

MOS ow in Japan is only 2.7M. Did worse than SR.

I'm hearing 3.5 for the weekend in Japan which is pretty strong but not earth shaking. Still, could hit 15 mil in Japan which would put it a bit over 380 mil overseas.

Don't tease me know. I'm fragile... :oldrazz:

U heard wrong. 2.7M only. Reported in an article. Placed at 2nd only.

I am afraid that you're the one whose heard wrong, MOS made 3.5 mill in Japan and for reference IM3 did 4.3 mill opening so all in all a solid number for such a late release date.

Here is the report from boxoffice.com:

Man of Steel opened to a strong $3.5 million debut in Japan, but it wasn't enough to bring down the blockbuster run of Miyazaki's The Wind Also Rises from first place. The Wind Also Rises has been a top grosser in Japan, collecting an $82.4 million cume since its July 20 premiere. The Wind Also Rises has already overshadowed the release of Star Trek Into Darkness in the market, which lost the head-to-head battle against the anime release last weekend. Man of Steel is the latest film to fall against The Wind Also Rises, despite a release that spanned across 612 screens. Man of Steel has grossed a total of $367 million overseas and has earned a cume of $657.3 million worldwide.

I've seen both 2.7 and 3.5 reported for Japan.

3.1 is the only logical prediction. Law of averages.
