Didnt Batman Begins make about $72 million in its first five days?
$68 Million would be pretty close to that take .
Not too shabby.

MOS making less than BB almost 10 years later would trouble me, particularly since BB's BO take was underwhelming and it was supposedly the DVD sales that allowed TDK to happen.

They're saying MoS would make in 3 days roughly what BB made in 5 days. Not ideal, but not as horrible as you made it sound, either.

Still, I think they're lowballing at the moment since they haven't seen what WB's primary marketing push will look like yet. When we get close to release, assuming the next trailer is awesome and action-packed and the marketing has kicked into overdrive, I think they'll raise their predictions quite a bit. Right now, I'm predicting it will have closer to an $85m opening weekend, yielding a $260m domestic take and a $500m-$600m worldwide total.

Okay, that's a relief.

I hope your numbers are right. :yay:

I didn't see anything about an international total, only $68 mil OW and $240 mil cume. Considering the 3D and growth of international markets MOS had better make a lot more than BB did.

I'm thinking that this film has a very good shot at being another one of those record breaking solo superhero movies, like Iron Man at minimum. This is because I think we can already agree this movie will probably be more energetic than Superman returns and because I just realized something:

You know how we Superman fans sometimes feel that the mainstream audience doesn't appreciate the mythos? I did some calculating, and there have been 24 seasons of live action Superman on television alone, with 16 of those seasons taking place during my 22 year life. Superman Returns seems to be more of an abnormality than anything else. And it still made a profit. I don't think this thing has to be Dark Knight caliber of awesome to get huge box office numbers. It just needs to be exciting and engaging.

I agree. I don't think it will do Dark Knight numbers but I think a lot of people are severely selling this thing short. There isn't even a shred of doubt in my mind that's it's going to outgross Iron Man 3. This is Superman we're talking about. Superman doesn't compete with characters like Iron Man... or Batman, or Spiderman. Those are just superheroes. In the U.S., the story of Superman is about as well known as the story of Jesus Christ... maybe even more well known. No one alive needs to be told what Superman is.

I don't care that it's not his first movie. No one even remembers the last one. This feels new. This feels fresh. This feels exciting. The buzz has been nothing short of tremendous. Once word gets out that it's amazing, people are going to flock because everyone will want to witness the definitive Superman myth of this generation. Don't worry about the marketing. They have more than a month. People will know this movie exists. Don't worry.

Again, I'm not saying Avengers or Dark Knight has anything to worry about. I'm just saying look out and don't be surprised if this thing turns out to be an absolute monster. And if it does, then you can bet your ass that the sequel (with Lex Luthor) will have a shot at it.

I think MOS will do well.
But I doubt a Franchise that has not had a hit in 33 years is going to be A Monster Blockbuster .

My predictions
Domestic - $190 million
Worldwide - $400 million

After Superman Returns I would have said the same thing, but the buzz is too positive for these numbers. To be realistic I would add at least 50-60 millions domestic and 100-150 millions worldwide. IMO MOS will do between 500 and 600 ww in the worst case.

outside of Facebook Fansites , where do you see this buzz?
I just dont see it , among the GA.

How much do you think IM3 will make in its opening weekend?

Out of WB themselves. Yeah, I know. Take that with a gigantic grain of salt since they're the ones who made the movie.

...What?

I'm sorry, but Superman fans act like this is still the 40's-70's where Superman was absolutely THE man when it came to superheroes. Truth be told, not only have Bats and Spidey been competition for at least 25 years, they've become more popular than Supes in general.

Superman ain't Jesus Christ in this situation...he's Elvis and he's trying to prove that he can keep up with The Beatles. The fact that this movie is being produced and written by Batman guys is proof of this.

This could go 1 billion. Zack Snyder is the man, and Supes is a classic. I say 1B!

I still think around 600 ww. that said, I wanna see the next trailer and the reaction to it. May shift my numbers either up or down or leave it alone..

Oh, SNAP. That's a brilliant analogy. As much as a Superman fan as I am, it's hard to disagree - which is why I'm hoping Man of Steel will be for Superman what the '68 Comeback Special was for The King. :supes:

Pretty much. It really seems like WB had no idea how to restart Superman as a viable movie franchise, and it was only Nolan's jaw-dropping success with the Dark Knight trilogy that made the studio instantly sit up and pay attention when he pitched Goyer's take.

85 mil LOL

Nothing less than 120 mil and thats low.

I was listening to Movie Moan, and I was actually surprised to hear Jamie's box-office predictions for MOS. $100M+ opening weekend, and around $300M domestic cume. That would be a great June opening for a live-action film outside of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

I hope WB gets that final trailer right and use those TV spots in the right areas.

If the movie's great: 300 domestic, 500 international
If the movie's meh: 200 domestic, 400 international

If the movie's great: 300 domestic, 500 international

How can it be meh? It's got more action than TDK trilogy and this time well, Superman actually fighting people as opposed to SR.

Honestly, people's expectations are low which could be a good thing. Once the new trailer comes out, there'll be a huge marketing blitz from this month all the way to it's release basically telling people, "Hey, here's your summer blockbuster of 2013."

OW: $110 Mil
Domestic: $305 Mil
Foreign: $450 Mil

I could be wrong, but I won't be lol :D There's a different feeling with this film than what I had with SR. I wasn't entirely too excited back in 2006 when I realized it was a continuation of the donner universe. This time, we'll be getting a Superman we have never before seen on film.
