I cried twice. I swear if they get some **** director like Tarsem or Bay I will FLIP THE **** OUT.

Fincher, Brad Bird or Abrham IS PERFECT.

But I WANT WEBB.

Brad Bird would be good.

I doubt Fincher would do Spidey but the movie now has a darker tone and he would have licence to kill certain characters.

Whether or not this is true, whoever is chosen to direct ASM2 and the quality of the sequel will definitely add some perspective on how much Webb's vision and sensibilities had an effect on ASM or didn't effect on it.

If he doesn't come back:

If they don't continue the Skating+Outcast+Witty Peter Parker and with his Spider-Man actions+movements:

I don't think it's been officially announced that Webb won't come back, and I'm holding out hope he will. But can't be good the way Sony is telegraphing that they're not sure he'll be available. Spin doctors at work it seems to me.

Interesting if true. I will take it with a grain of salt, but it wouldn't shock me. Just watch the trailers and such. It is VERY clear a lot of material was cut from the film. Webb may have had to sacrifice or refilm much of his vision, and Sony has been tamper happy in recent years.
This. Webb didn't seem interested in the project, and it shows throughout the film. I'd like to see a director come aboard who will make Spider-Man fun and engaging. The writing was pedestrian as well, so I'm glad to see Orci & Kurtzman on rewrites for the sequel. They've been hit or miss in the past; however, so who knows.

I have a question for you guys: If Marc were not to return, what director would you want for the sequel? Zack Snyder would be cool or Ridley Scott

Couldn't disagree more. Webb made the most emotionally involving cbm movie to date with fantastic performances all around. Maybe you value whiz-bang action and fluff over romance and acting performances?

1. MARC WEBB!
2. James Cameron (will never happen)
3. Christopher Nolan (will never happen)
4. Ridley Scott (?)
5. David Fincher (don't think he'll get the romance or humor the way Webb did)

Webb's the man for the job, wish Sony could see it.

Please no JJ Abrams, Star Trek is the only of his movies I liked. He's kind of formulaic and ham-handed in his movie direction, imo.

I wonder what the movie would've been like if Marc would've had total control... I really would like if Sony would let Marc to do his own thing with the sequel and meddle with it as little as possible

Honestly, we don't know how much control Webb did or didn't have..

But I loved the way TASM turned out anyway. I just don't want the 2nd movie to deviate too far from the path set by it.

Or maybe you shouldn't expect people to have the same opinion of this movie as you do. Disagree all you want, but if you're going to dispute my views, at least bring some semblance of reasoning to the table instead of being trite.

Whether you believe it or not, I think one of the few things this movie did well was the 'whiz-bang action', as the romance was both unconvincing and spoon-fed. Fluff? This movie was full of it. If you think that this film was the most emotionally involving cbm to date...well, more power to you, but I strongly and respectfully disagree. What was intended to be passed off as emotion came off as excessive melodrama to my eyes. The performances were indeed well done, but the characters(save for Peter/Spidey) were so poorly written that none of them stood out to me. My preference is simple: keep the talented cast, but replace the writers and director. Simple.

I've written essays on this board about how great a job I think Webb did on this movie, and in an effort not to rehash I won't go over it again to prove anything to you. You're entitled to your opinion as I am mine, but the part I felt you were glib about was accusing Webb of obviously not showing interest in the project. To me that's about as unmerited a claim as I've read about this movie. According to your post, Webb was obviously a disinterested director who made an unfun, unengaging movie, and I believe the exact opposite to be the case. So be it.

A director returns or doesn't the movie can go with way;

Raimi returned for SM2 and it was great
Raimi returned for SM3 and it wasn't great

Favreau returned for IM2 and it wasn't great

Nolan returned for TDK and it was great

New director for Blade 2 and it was excellent

Singer returned for X2 and it was great
New director for X3 and it wasn't great

I'd rather Webb return but if he doesn't they have to choose the director wisely or it will doom this franchise.

For the record I don't have a problem with KB not returning for Thor.
i dont mind kb not returning for thor2 because i have already seen thor under 2 different directors with avengers.now if webb already had a plan laid out for a trilogy and doesnt comeback that worries me.a new director might not follow webbs story.a new director might go in a totally different direction and tone and ignore this version completey.

I reread the cbm article about Webb possibly not returning, and it states that they want him back but Fox holds all the cards due to Webb's obligations to the studio to do one more film:

The Amazing Spider-Man is still chugging along at the box office with the last numbers that we got going over the 500 million dollar range. With numbers like that and the films cliff hanger after credits scene a sequel is all but a given. Whether or not director Marc Webb will be apart of the sequel not so much a given. Columbia Pictures Chief Doug Belgrad sat down to talk with The Hollywood Reporter where he said Fox Studio holds the power to let Webb do the film or not. We'd really like him back, but there are obstacles. He has an obligation to Fox," he said. The obligation that Belgrad is referring to is Webb owes them another film for doing 500 Days of Summer. This is all still up in the air at the moment and it is NOT a for sure answer that he isn't going to return. What this does mean though is that there is a chance that Spidey will have a new director when he hits theaters again in 2014.

Seems extremely curious that this situation wasn't foreseen and sorted out before he started on the first ASM movie.

I cried twice during ASM, a first for a superhero movie.

Posts like this make me feel like a robot for not crying during a movie.

It seems I have no heart to cry during movies, but I tear up reading Spider-Man: Blue

If I'm really into a scene I get emotional. That said I've never cried during a superhero movie before that's way I hold ASM close to my heart.

With ASM 2 coming out in 2014 we're going to get answers sooner rather than later.

Also Webb making a Fox movie after ASM 2 and then waiting 3 years for ASM 3 would be a good thing as it will give a break from spidey and give him fresh ideas for the concluding instalement.

A new director could probably make a good Spidey film, but I don't don't feel like it would fit in tonally with what Marc was able to accomplish with TASM. That and they'd probably butcher Gwen's death, where as Marc Webb set it up beautifully.
In spite of the fact that it sounds like there were some problems behind the scenes, I think most would agree this was a very successful reboot.

I'll be SUPER disappointed if Marc Webb isn't back for the sequel.

Don't feel bad. I've only cried at a movie once when I was a child and it wasn't even because I was sad.
