Honestly though, I am pretty sure Webb isn't coming back. Watch, in the next 6 months Sony is going to announce that there is a new director for TASM 2. I promise.

What directors could be better ? i want to know your (everyone)opinion

It certainly appears that way. Although as I said earlier, TASM started shooting 19 months before release. So given a similar time frame that would be Oct. 2012, three months from now. The window is tight. That May, 2014 release date is a prime spot. I don't think they'll want to delay a decision for too long.

Honestly I think Webb is perfectly suited for the character. I don't think people want him to leave, but politics behind the scenes are in play here it appears.

but if you had to choose a replacement who would be?

Never mind what I said. I was just looking for you to say, "Don't make promises you can't keep." It was worth a try lol.

Yup. They are going to have to announce the Director by the end of this year at least if they want the movie to be released by May 2014. Unless they push the date back, but I don't see that happening.

If not Webb, the first name that I'd go for would be Duncan Jones. Combine the in-depth character study of Moon with the action packed sequences in Source Code. A nice marriage of the two for Spidey. And he fits in with the tone that Webb has established I feel.

That's an intriguing notion, Duncan Jones. Only movie of his I've seen is Moon which is quite good. However it was clinical and sterile from what I remember, which is what was called for in the film, but not sure how well he'd execute the humor and romance. But still one to consider, though must caveat every one of my posts with it needs to be Marc Webb coming back!

I think Jones would have good instict for the character. This is from an interview he did regarding the bits of humor in Source Code:

".....I think humor is a huge tool, an incredibly useful tool to get the audience to form an attachment with these characters. If your main character and your audience are both laughing about the same thing—you know, if there's comedy and it's shared—I think it helps the audience bond with the protagonist."

This could certainly apply to Spidey for some scenes, no? He can certainly develop rich characters and pathos as well as handle the action and humor (as seen in Source Code).

I'm not saying I think Sony could get him (who knows), just that this is the type of guy they should aim for if Webb doesn't return.

He certainly said the right things. And guess who released Moon in North America and a number of other regions? Sony. Duncan Jones would be someone worth considering if Webb doesn't come back, but it needs to be Marc Webb coming back! :yay:

One thing for sure, if Duncan Jones is hired you can bet that the script by Kurtzman and Orci will be re-worked some, although it will probably go through some sort of evolution anyway.

WOW. I wouldn't mind if Duncan Jones came in, I forgot him. Yeah he'd actually be amazing choice. But Webb or GTFO

Anyone but Webb would great.

Just a director that's comfortable with Spidey keeping his mask on when in costume would be a BIG improvement.

I think that the problems people seem to have with a consistent tone being kept or plots being dropped if Webb leaves are somewhat misguided. Providing the writers of the script are on the ball and capable, these things can all be maintained on a fairly fundamental level. Of course, a new director could come in and demand that the script be completely rewritten to suit their vision and these changes could cause a tonal discrepancy, however, if they were allowed to do so it would be because Sony wanted them to change things up.

In that case, even if Webb were to return, he would likely be forced to produce a film that fits whatever new vision Sony has and, in that case, it's better for everyone if Webb leaves.

I would LOVE if he produced the film to his vision. Then another director doing the things he needs, perhaps Webb can add in a couple "love scenes".

All I'm asking for is just keep the same Peter Parker Webb had, skating and all. Make Spider-Man with the same actions and movements. I'm glad with that.

I want Webb to return, his first Spider-Man movie is good, will have to agree with what Jick said about him learning from his mistakes same way Raimi said he did
And I don't like a delay in releasing the next movie

Guys, you should realize it's not about who the director is but about what Sony wants. I'm sure they'll hire somebody experienced who'll do the job.

Or they can pull another SM3.

If Sony wants a good film then it's all about the director (and screenplay of course). At the end of the day it's a directors medium.

But I have a feeling they would settle for less.

According to Comic Book News (Don't know how reliable they are) he is already off the project:

http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/content/toldja-marc-webb-not-returning-amazing-spider-man-sequel

Of course, take this with a grain of salt since it's only this one site and I have no idea how reliable it is, but if it's true, I'm ****ing pissed. Not only did I want Webb to return but to hear that this Tarsem Singh guy is the frontrunner for director is terrible. He's just not a Spider-Man director. To hear that the movie is supposed to be more action oriented is very disheartening too. If all this is true, I've lost a lot of respect for Sony, if that was even possible, and would really want Spider-Man to go back to Marvel.

BS from top to bottom :whatever:

That articles sounds like total BS...atleast I'm hoping.

I'll be very upset if Webb doesn't return. He did a superb job in TASM. Plus, this is his vision of Spider-Man, which I loved. I don't want that to change hands. Continue on please. I'd hate to start having all these different directors. TASM was great, but it's sequel would be a completely different direction/vision with someone else.

As much as I want Webb back, if we dont get him I would like daren aranofsky to take the job. He has proven himself as a amazing director and is a VERY heavy acting director as seen in all his films. I also think he could stick somewhat close to the world Webb created which is a plus.
