The Amazing Spider-Man Marc Webb: what do we know about him?

A huge fan of Ultimate Spider-Man comics and the director of 5000 Days of Summer

I know nothing else

You mean 500.

Why do you need to know about him for him to direct a Spider-Man film. Personally, I'm tired of directors claiming that they're big fans and then delivering a mediocre movie. And I've seen the Wachowski Brothers go from a small budget film Bound (with one movie under their belt)...straight to The Matrix.

B/c like chaster said " Marc Webb, director of one movie, is helming a billion dollar franchise with a huge budget is odd to me."
Personally, I dont care if he is fan or not. I just want to make sure that he know what he is doing with that big movie. If he didnt do any good..then that would give Spider man a bad name. If you know what I am saying? So, I kinda feel like want to know who he is so that can give us a " exception" for that movie or something like that. I know it is kinda chessy title ( hey, my first thread tho :) ) or whatever haha.

Pls, forgive me for my bad grammar...

I will give Marcy a chance, I just am not investing all my stock in him like some on here are doing because we don't know anything about the dude other than he has made one movie.

Well to date (if wiki's correct), he's done about 101 diverse music videos for a bunch of (regardless of personal tastes) popular and high-profile artists. I even used to recognize Webb's name back in my MTV watchin' days. Plus, judging from listening to the 500 Days commentary, he's willing to experiment with different techniques, thinks outside the box, and seems to connect really well with his actors.

So it's not like he's inexperienced.

"500 Days of Summer" deserve being watched then?

McG also directed a bunch of music videos, and a few movies that weren't romantic comedies.... but I wouldn't want him to direct Spider-Man.

Yes. The premise drives many away, but it really is a good movie.

Plus, it will be a good way to see Marc Webb's directing skills.

People moan about the cheese in raimi's movies, well, I thought 500 days was just as cheesy (in a good way).

I must be really blinded by highly enjoying the Raimi movies, I can't seem to find much of a cheese in them

Outside of the musical number 500 Days is not cheesy at all. Especially when compared to the Raimi movies.

After the tv-cooking slapstick dance off crap that was Spidey 3 it can only get better.

What do we know about Marc Webb?

He eats food and drinks liquids of various varieties.

We know he is making the new SM film and he made 500 Days of Summer.

Exactly. He may very well deliver us a great Spider-Man film, but I'm not counting on it being the bestest film evah! Not until I am given reason to, and right now, not enough data.

I suppose all we can do is look at some of his previous work and pick out his style of filming.
This is one of my favourite music videos. I love little details in it (the shift from clean cut to chaos, the water coming onto the dancefloor, managing to make a group of musicians decent actors) and you can tell he focuses on the actors within the setpieces as opposed to setpieces and the actors in passing.

I had heard that they were going with a darker approach more like the dark knight a while back...so i think they will try to avoid going the horrific sm3 route

You can be sure of the fact that the main reason for them rebooting the spidey franchise to begin with, is directly because of SM3! Every one KNEW that they ****ed it up. They really really did. Sam Raimi took the best and most badass story arc of the spiderman universe, and trashed it! He made it in to a 70's cheesy batman farce! It should have been the darkest and most serious of the bunch. Raimi and crew had every bit of opportunity to make "3" the absolute best of them. The material was all there and they could have made such a hardcore and brillianty complex third film. Instead it was anything but... I was so disappointed when leaving the theater.

They are definitely going with a somewhat darker feel for the new franchise, that's for sure. But I think that the word "grittier" is more fitting. It wont be Dark Knight dark, and it SHOULDN'T be either.

Can't wait to get a first look of some footage - any footage! I have faith that spiderman was never truely brought to the big screen - until now (or more like 2012). We'll see though.
