The Last Jedi Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (VIII)

Luke better get a "Vader in Rogue One" moment in TLJ. I can guarantee that he won't be wielding a lightsaber for the majority of the movie. But I'm hoping there's a dire situation near the end of the film that basically forces his hand. He ignites the blade and just starts wrecking fools left and right. And then he helps the good guys escape to live to fight another day. Just want to hear that signature sound of his green saber activating!

We all need to see that!

LF/Disney is putting Mark name in for the Oscars for Best Actor

It doesn't mean a whole lot. You'll frequently see Studios buy out major For Your Consideration ads in the trades for big movies that would never get considered for those awards in a million years.

That being said, sometimes you see actors like that get recognized for those types of films once in a while. It's not frequent but it does happen. IE Sigourney Weaver's nomination for Aliens, Heath Ledger for for The Dark Knight, Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean.

Did Depp get nominated for Pirates?!

This thread deserves a bump. Whether or not you like what they did with Luke in Last Jedi (and I did, very much) Hamill knocks it out of the park. His screen presence in Last Jedi is tremendous and he kills it in every scene. I don’t know if it’s Oscar-worthy but imo it’s his strongest work in the franchise to date.

And Sir Alec Guinness for ANH.

Yeah, he was great all throughout. Not a false note. What they did with the character, though...

Loved Luke in the 3rd act, but I just thought he and his dialogue could've been better written.

I really lost respect for Rey for the way she treated Luke by pushing him and threatening with a lightsaber. in part this is Rian's fault.

It just showed a total lack of respect for the hero of a generation ago....

I didn't mind her doing it.
She was trying to get down to the truth and he then he was giving her half the story. He had cut himself off from the Force, and then she finds out that he potentially was the one to create Kylo? Trying to kill an innocent? He deserved what he got from her in that scene

I agree with this, even if it was a quick lapse in judgement, it was a massive mistake. It just so happened that Ben was awake at the worst possible time to see him in that weak moment. I thought it was beautifully played out. They each have their own version of what happened. It shows Ben's reasoning. I didn't have a problem with Rey being aggressive with Luke.

Luke was the best part of the movie. Mark Hamill did great job.

It struck me as the kind of moment of weakness a man with as much expectation put upon him would make. Luke having the burden of being the last Jedi, of being "Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master".

Anyone have any idea what the deal with Luke's new robes at the end were about? The rest of him seemed to harken back to his appearance as Kylo knew him in terms of hair and beard. As far as I could tell, what he wore, did not have the classic traits of traditional Jedi robes? There was no Gabbard. The hooded overtone was short with short sleeves. The colour scheme was also odd. Any idea what Rian was getting at with the costume change?

To me it looked like a throwback to his ROTJ costume. Not the exact costume, mind you, but definitely intended to hearken back to it. It even had a white shirt underneath (the ROTJ shirt had a white flap that fell down when the Emperor's lightning knocked it loose). The only thing to me is, I wish he would have fought Kylo using his green saber, since the rest of the look was so ROTJ-themed.

I have no idea, but it looked bad@ss!

I loved what we got. And how he did it explained why there wasn't as much "clashing" involved.

Plus, the shoulder sweep? Come on, that was epic!

When he went for the "if you strike me down..." line, I damn near lost it.

It wasn't just that. It was also a pure application of the Jedi philosophy that Yoda taught Luke in ESB. Force only for defence and such. It was much more inline of what I expected from a Jedi Master before the prequels.
