The Last Jedi Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (VIII)

Luke isn't turning to the dark side. The whole thing is about finding balance between the light and the dark which is why people are theorizing a lot about the grey Jedi. I'm surprised at how many people are missing this and thinking that Luke will go all Vader. But the light side will prevail in the end. The Jedi Order as we know it may have been flawed, but the Jedi and light side aren't the same thing. The light side is everything good, and the dark side is everything bad - there's no way that somewhere in the middle will be framed as the ideal solution.

It totally is, but YouTube ran with it anyway because of that quote about the grey from the Book of the Whills.

"First comes the day
Then comes the night.
After the darkness
Shines through the light.
The difference, they say,
Is only made right
By the resolving of gray
Through refined Jedi sight."

Yeah I don't see Luke going dark side either. He may go darker than previously but a complete transformation I just don't see.

Grey lightside user then. The Jedi were beaten because they denied the emotional aspect within themselves, making the dark side blind to them. Luke did the same thing after his temple was destroyed by Kylo Ren. It's very possible that Luke has realized that the cycle will continue until Force users are able to balance the light and dark within themselves, so they aren't blind to the actions of others.
Very possible.

Well that's just it, that calls back to the original trilogy and Luke's arc, this isn't something new, Luke has already walked this path.
It's as if half the internet and these forums suddenly forgot Luke's whole arc was about recognizing and accepting the darkness that was a part of himself, what he would become if he surrenders to that side of himself - on the other hand he doesn't stay and finish his training either, he follows his own impulses, all contrary to what his masters prescribe, and ultimately creates and walks his own path.
That is Luke!
How did everyone forget that?

Declaring he's going to become "gray" as if they came up with or invented something new, by giving it a label, that doesn't suddenly makes it new.
Having a foot(or hand) in both worlds and walking the middle is exactly what he did. That was Luke's arcs.

Watch Luke whip out a yellow lightsaber. :awesome:

I still think he's going to use Vader's saber. Or at least the crystal from Vader's in his own.

It's no coincidence they haven't shown his in any of the marketing. It's going to be a big reveal, even if he isn't evil and it is still green. Like the first time Finn ignited Anikan's in TFA. The crown went WILD!

It's going to be pretty awesome if they hide ol' green from us for most of the film and then have him bring it out in the middle of a fight late in the film. Seeing that blade ignite when we assume that he lost it would be outstanding.

I think that could be the "this is not going to go how you think" moment.

I love this guy.

So glad that TFA brought Mark Hamill back to public attention. He really seems to be enjoying it!

Is Battlefront cannon? Luke in that is post Jedi and has his green saver.

Yes, so glad this great Jedi hero is back at the forefront of film entertainment!

Agree with both of you. It's a shame Hamilton didn't have a better move career after ROTJ. But I am so glad to see him back in the swing of things now.

With him not having his face on any other major film character it at least makes it easier to totally identify him with Luke Skywalker. With Harrison Ford I see Indiana Jones at least as much as I do Han Solo, even ignoring the other iconic roles he's been in.

The dude is doing what he loves though. His voicework as the Joker is just as iconic as Luke Skywalker for some. He’s doing fine.

I think yes, he'll use it and the green one. It's simply a payoff to the entire experience given audience expectation.

Can't wait to see Luke's arc in the film!! Hope he reunites with Leia at some point!
